People blaming Oddie have to remember that the libel laws in England could have ruined him. If he makes an accusation in the media based on rumours and hearsay - rather than anything he observed first hand - he opens himself up to a libel writ. That is why all of this stuff about Saville came out AFTER he died - because dead men can't sue for libel.

I was 15 years old when I got tickets to go to top of the pops with my friend Theresa. We were having a lot of fun dancing and screaming at all the bands. Gary Glitter and the glitter band were our favourites at that time. After they’d performed, a bouncer came up to us and asked us if we wanted to go back stage to meet them. My friend was so excited but I was apprehensive as it was close to my curfew to be home. We had an argument and I left as my mother, god love her, was an absolute tyrant. I asked T the next day if she’d gone back stage and she was silent and then teary. To this day (40+years) she has never told me what happened as I honestly believe she was traumatised. @samgreenaum4104 Před 9 lety +7

Yeah, but is John Lydon's gobshitery, which you have to admit he's done a lot of, admissible in court?
I'd hope not. "Everyone" "knew". But nobody actually knew. It was just rumours and thank the gods that's not enough to find people guilty of such horrible crimes.
There might be people who really did know, for certain. The fact none of the victims are ever on record as speaking up, is bloody wierd. Plenty of abused children keep quiet of it, but surely not HUNDREDS!? Perhaps he was helped by those in power. Perhaps those noncey MPs that popped up inthe news the other week, and now seem forgotten about.
But just hearing rumours is no use to anyone. The one about Richard Gere and the gerbil probably isn't true, and neither's the one about Marc Almond and the stomach pump. In fact it was Rod Steward originally in the stomach pump story.

Well, yes, but it's not hurting anyone. There were other details mentioned too.All this was recorded on a hidden tape, much easier to do these days. The bloke went to his boss and asked what he should do about creating a newspaper story. the response was you can only do that with fact evidence, not hearsay. How do you mean? Well , if you could have taped it that would be perfect. CC was informed and a small piece appeared in ,local paper about disciplinary action being effected in a Division of West Yorkshire Police. • @Mirandorl
    @Mirandorl Před 7 lety +114

Everyone asks how could it happen, but Savile himself told us, through his victims. "I'm King Jimmy. No one can touch me. You'll never be believed". He was right. There is a bizarre need to admire people and elevate them, place them on pedestals, that humans have. The most harmless form of it is kids that hero worship footballers, but adults still have it too. Its so powerful that they will convince themselves that what their eyes and ears are telling them is wrong because of the crushing fear of public humiliation, loss of job, or worse.
People with power should be subject of the MOST social doubt and scepticism, especially those that make us feel good about them *despite the fact we've likely never met them and most certainly do not know them*. The unscrupulous gain power through vocal followers and their overly rose tinted spectacles (no pun intended), and as with modern politics, let a lack of emotional control set their views on the person in concrete. Jimmy had his legion of fans and those who wished to be associated with him because of how that popularity reflected on them or their causes. I have no doubt that he had some of the fiercest defenders whilst he was alive.
So how do these things eventually come out? We wait until someone with enough power and position tells us "yes, this person is evil". Then, we are all allowed to say it, the thing we all knew anyway. We wait for another powerful, trusted authority to tell us that the previous powerful, trusted authority was slime. Then we pick someone else to fall in admiration with and follow to the next explosion.
Despite how good and "right" it might feel, the need to follow and admire has a dangerous double edge that our era seems to still be at the mercy of.

@@combativeThinker Except the very existence of religions is caused by the exact same fundamentally flawed human behavior - seeking out someone or something that they can trust will always be good and have their best interests in mind no matter what... but that's not a realistic goal or viewpoint because "good" and "bad" are concepts entirely invented by humans (and change wildly based on the century you're in) and the notion that anything is or can be incorruptibly good is as ridiculous as believing a human can transcend humanity and ascend to godhood (capable of altering reality to their whims and without using technology). Nature is neither good nor bad and simply couldn't care less about the life of a human.
Gods exist to explain the aspects of nature that humans fundamentally couldn't understand because they lacked the scientific knowledge or resources to observe things beyond the visible surface level. Case in point, Tom Lehrer wrote "The Elements" song while working at Harvard in the 50s. In his song, he lists off 102 different elements that were listed on the periodic table. At the end of his live performances, he added an additional bit of humor to the song by mentioning a much earlier version of the song he attributes to Aristotle and proceeds to sing the older version to the same piano tune... Except it lasts all of 2-3 seconds because the lyrics were shortened to "There's Earth and Air and Fire and Water" because for centuries humans were under the false pretense that those were the only 4 elements and that everything was made up of combining them in different mixtures (anything that couldn't be achieved this way was attributed to magic or gods).

Exactly. I very much doubt that the government would cover the cost if half the nation seized to purchase a TV licence.
It is shameful that the British taxpayer actually pays these bastards wages.
The bbc is a cancerous infection on the British people. And without quick sharp treatment it will grow and infect like any cancer.
That's not a dig at British people, I mean I am British.
I can proudly say that there is not one occasion have I paid the bbc license fee. And rightly so. When is the last time there was something fresh and original shown on bbc without a hidden agenda behind it.
It's sad that in this day and age there is people who are having to go to food banks just to survive and the same people are being dragged through an already overburdened court system for not paying the bbc license fee. Absolute corporate greed. All western society's are the same. We (as in the uk) go around invading other countries sticking our noses into matters that either don't concern us or are greatly exaggerated just to get public opinion in our corner. We then send our troops who are of course trained to kill into combat zones, horrendous events occur at the will of the government, we get lied to by the media (bbc etc), we don't get told of the war crimes we commit on theses countries we have invaded.
And to top it all off we can't understand why people from these country's come here and commit terrorist attacks against us.
It's all bullshit. And the thing is, as I get older all this bullshit becomes clearer, the leaves die off and I can see the wood through the trees
      Anyway rant over. good day

Because its better for the industry and us that it does.
If its privatised it'll rely on advertising revenue which is a limited amount. ITVs programming has gone to pot with huge cuts because the cash it got from commercials has been watered down by competition with Sky etc.
At the moment, what the BBC get from Licence /government is roughly equal to what the independent sector get in advertising revenue.
If the BBC was to rely on adverts, the pot would be split with both sides taking huge losses and program quality would fall even more than it has.
Also, the BBC produces shit loads of services that are important to the public but not lucrative and would disappear. This includes the World Service, 40 plus local radio stations, the Asian Network, Radio 6, BBC 4 and dozens of foreign service channels. You might not use them but many do.

They both rounded on me and jumped to his defence. In fairness to them, the general public had no hard evidence to believe that he was what we later found him out to be and I was only talking about my impression of the man, but I think if anything can be learned from Saville and his like it is that the consensus is often at odds with reality. Saville was untouchable for many reasons and one of those was that he was extremely popular.

The BBC made a documentary about in the 1970's it but was banned from putting it on TV.
They sold it to Carlton TV hoping they would show it but it got burried when David Cameron was head of Carlton TV.
Lots of investigations have been done by Police but stopped by Govts.
1 was started after teresa may demanded and investigtion got started when she was a back bencher.
Jack Straw was home sec then. His instructons were the police could investigate but could not arrest anyone unless he gave permission.
When May became PM she stopped the investigation cause she saw the names on the list the police had found. in the 1st 2 months they had found over 2k ppl involved. members of the royal family. politians several former prime ministers from all parties. stars of TV and radio and 100 childrens homes run by social services.
Saville was a fixer. He supplied the kids and was given protection by the high ups that he supplied.
Mountbatten blown up on his boat by the IRA? wrong it was young lad that did it after he saw mountbatten taking orphaned boys out on his boat. killing them then raping them then throwing them overboard.
RUC used the IRA to take the blame to protect the young boy who did it.
The Army was told not to go after the IRA for it.
I was in the army and in Ireland at the time and was in 1 of the breifings when we were told all about it and what mountabatten was doing.
Rules r anyone who supplies kids to the VIP ring will be protected while still alive. members of the ring r politicians from lots of countries including US presidents, royal families from all over Europe. at least 3 former Prime minsters of the UK were involved. they didnt get named till after they were dead. just like the saville stuff didnt come out till he was dead. The queen and the queen mother r involved in it as well.
Ive had run ins with social services over it. I had a foster daughter who was kidknapped by social services after a court ruled i was her legal gaurdian and social services were to stay away from her. they locked her up a room and got her addicted to heroine and forced her to have sex with anyone that paid enough. she was 13. she ran away and came back to me and told me what they were doing to her. But cause the police were looking for her she couldnt stay with me so we used to meet up now and then and i would give her food before she headed off to where ever she was hiding. Some of the men that visited her were high ranking police officers.

Bill at 1 min 57 asks who in the establishment could have decided that Saviles activities should be kept under wraps? He then immediately mentions that Savile was a friend of royalty. Later at 3min 23 he asks if somewhere in Britain there exists some sort of cencorship committee whose job it is to suppress this sort of thing & postulates the such a thing might have been done because of Saviles relationship with Charles. You're getting close Bill! Now, let's imagine for a moment that that committee exists & it's called "Cabinet". Prince Charles has recently been outed as a secret, unelected, enduring member of Britains cabinet & has been for at least thirty years. Throughout this time there were at least 4 big paedophile cover ups that come to mind. Dunblane murderer Thomas Hamilton was a distributor & producer of child porn who had well-to-do members of the British establishment frequenting his home regularly in limousines whose identities were cover up by the Cullen Enquiry. Jill Dando was murdered when she began getting too close to exposing Jimmy Savile & an innocent man was imprisoned for 8 years. Although Barry George has since been released on appeal he has been refused compensation. George is innocent enough to be freed, but not innocent enough to be awarded compentsation. Why? The disappearance of Madeleine McCann has cost 12 million of British tax-payers money to investigate, yet the Portuguese proved Madeleine died in her Priaz De Luz apartment & that her parents disposed of her body. What has 12 million pounds been spent on, the cover up? Peter Ball, one time Bishop of Gloucester & now imprisoned child abuser avoided jail in the 90's when he was first caught, after he was supported by people such as Charles. Ball lost both his job & his home despite dodging conviction, & was given a new place to live on Prince Charles estate. Perhaps Prince Charles is the one-man-cencorship-committee Bill Oddie talks about here, & his speciality is covering up paedophiles & child abusers. I wonder why.

+ChaldeanCauldron "I wonder how many of these "victims" gave their full consent." Excuse me? Why did you put the word victims in quotation marks? "Full consent" - The law states - for very good reasons - that a minor cannot give _informed consent_ to sexual activity before the age of sixteen. A kid does not have the mental capacity to fully understand the ramifications of such behaviour - an adult male does. I've been a thirteen year old girl. Luckily I wasn't exploited, but I see so easily how it could happen. You're stupid at that age. You're cocky - you think you know it all. You might want to appear _all grown up_ in front of your mates. This phase passes - but it undoubtedly renders you vulnerable and consequently should never be exploited by forty year old men.
_He_ is the one old enough to know better - every damn time. There can never really be talk of "consent" in such a situation.
This legilsation is in place not only to stop grown men like Saville abusing their position of power (even if the male concerned isn't famous - the power dynamic is overwhelmingly stacked in his favour by definition of his adulthood, which is part of the reason he's targeting minors) - but also to protect vulnerable young girls and boys from _themselves._ From their own mental immaturity.
Often these kids are in and out of care (like the Rotherham abuse scandal); they don't really have anyone to look out for them. Or they have a mother like Mandy Smith had - who in my opinion - should be in jail along with Bill Wyman.
When the victims do have decent parents to look out for them, it's amazing how often predators still claim "consent". I'm pretty sure Rolf Harris did when questioned. If that's the case Rolf - why didn't you go up to the girl's father and say "I'd like to take your twelve year old daughter on a date and then on to a hotel for a few hours, I'll pick her up at eight...alright Mister?"
But he didn't do that - did he fuck.
They're called child predators for a reason.

There were too many witnesses. Witnesses who didn't have anything to gain by talking - witnesses who in fact were then subject to "Why didn't you do anything then?" type interrogations. Francis Rossi, Bill Oddie, John Lydon. There were people who _saw_ the activity. There was an elderly lady on the news who spoke of watching Saville fondling a dying girl in a hospice. There were too many other people reporting events and consistency of testimony and MO is a clear red flag; they were on TV quite a bit over here in the UK (I wonder where you're from. You sound American, nobody says "doofus" over here).
These witnesses do not have a history of making false allegations against innocent men. They spoke out against Saville because he was guilty.
It is very telling to me that you didn't address the issue I raised regarding the moral and legal ramifications of _consent._ I suspect I really wouldn't want you to though. Sayonara son.

    • @aerialkate
      @aerialkate Před 8 lety

ChaldeanCauldron When you read anything by me stating that Saville's corpse should be disinterred and shot to pieces - then you can let the "torch and pitchfork" imagery fly. Until then I'd be grateful if you'd desist from using manipulative language. Don't put words in my mouth. Saville escaped justice. That _is_ something to get annoyed about. I don't feel too sorry for Jimmy Saville.
Historic child abuse: Sadly for the purposes of retribution - when many uncles, family friends, stepfathers crept into the bedrooms of 10 year old children in their care - they didn't molest those kids in front of 500 convenient witnesses. "Acquittal" doesn't necessarily mean "not guilty". Too often sexually motivated crimes are difficult offences to prove; or there are other problems such as the statute of limitations. Bill Cosby won't be prosecuted despite having told Larry King that he used to put spanish fly into women's drinks. The man even made a conspiratorial face and smirked when he described the action. The implication clearly being that the women concerned were _unaware_ they were being drugged. That's on 'CZcams' available to view. He will face no consequences and that's outrageous because it confirms the victims' testimony. In situations like this: it is what it is. You use your common sense. You do this to protect the public and out of respect for the victims - who absolutely deserve to see justice served. He should have faced trial, as should Saville.
It comes down to trusting the experience of police officers and clinicians who have decades of experience employing their judgement. Victims are often lucky if people who scarred them for life are ever brought to trial.
