  • Check out this fantastic VFX movie breakdown featuring a revealing look at some of Image Engine's VFX work for the Hollywood blockbuster, "Jurassic World"! 280 shots in Jurassic World, comprising environment extensions, FX elements, jungle simulations and highly detailed matte paintings. But of course, the most impressive and challenging work came in the creation of the dinosaurs themselves, particularly the four ferocious raptors: Blue, Delta, Charlie and Echo.For more information, please see the details and links below:

    I think this movie is really underrated. This is hands down the best way It could be done and they did it perfectly. People are just too selfish and used to the first movie's technology

  • @kurttomlinsoncompositions1067

    Those raptor heads in the cage look amazing. The backgrounds and minor details that have CGI are also really impressive. Some CGI looks obvious, but not bad. Same with most films. For now, though, the CGI looks great. People under-appreciate CGI so much.

      So true....everyone likes to compare the best of models/sets with the worst of CGI. Sadly, its never the other way around.

    • @kurttomlinsoncompositions1067
      @kurttomlinsoncompositions1067 Před 8 lety +1

      Brian Hayne Completely agree. There's been plenty of times where Animatronics have looked obviously fake, but they're never mentioned. One example would be the T-Rex in Jurassic Park 3 when it was eating the dead carcass, it looked really stiff.

    • @kurttomlinsoncompositions1067
      @kurttomlinsoncompositions1067 Před 7 lety

      Every shot that involved a Dinosaur's full body walking or running was CGI, yes.

      ***** Oh, I see what you mean now, yeah, that'll be why. I heard that the next film will have a bigger budget so the next film will have more to spend building animatronics.

    It's funny how we miss the little things. It's absolutely incredible to know that things such as blades of grass, dirt, water, scenery were so well put together. I truly believe that they were real. Great work!

      That's quite true, since the best shots of them seem to be the ones at night. Though I still think the textures and movements of the dinosaurs are admirably fantastic.

  • @TheMcardarelli
    @TheMcardarelli Před 8 lety +3

    I think that what gives away the CGI more than its looks (unless its Sharknado level CGI), is the movement. The textures felt really real, but some movements were like too "exagerated", dont know how to explain it, like you get that "There´s no way an animal can move that way", which feels unrealistic. Dinosaurs on previous one were "bulkier", slower, which made you feel all the mass of the animal, making it more real.

      I like don't the blue tint especially at night time. The scene where the raptors have finally caught up the Indominus. You can see where they actually captured the that scene during the day time and then added blue tint too make it look like it was night time. Making it look like the moon(which was the sun) just look unrealistically bright in the background.

    Am I the only one who thinks the prosthetic head used at 3:43 looks worse then the CG dinosaur? Its about time people realize that the reason the 90s' practical effects looked so good in the first Jurassic Park film was because of how soft and (in that case dark) the image was. CG is more realistic (when done by pros like Image Engine) and often cheaper.

    • @DarthBiomech
      @DarthBiomech Před 8 lety +1

      +GiantCowFilms I think this is the case when CGI should've used to improve properties of the animatronic prop, to make it appear less stiff and rubber-like. That's the best from both worlds.

    • @Henbot
      @Henbot Před 8 lety +1

      The puppet one I didn't realise was CGI and yeah the head could of been better but CGI if easily seen breaks immersion and I could see all the rest as CGI and it was not as immersive as Jurassic park was. Even trex in Jurassic park looked better. Ray Harryhausen the legend said they are all tools in the toolbox. So being some one tool fanatic is more likely going to lead to you being a false created of immersion. Reason why practical effects are still totally valid so stop being CGI zealot

    @Snowfang00andco Před 8 lety +3

    • @lowenorman8719
      @lowenorman8719 Před 8 lety

      +Luigi Cesare I know they used Zbrush for the dinosaur models pre-retopology but I'm not sure about the rest.
      If you want to learn this stuff then the industry standrad softwares are pretty much Zbrush, Photoshop and Maya with support of some specialized software like XNormal and Marvelous Designer. So I'd recommend anyone who wants to learn to learn those.
      But lots of people use different stuff like Modo, 3ds Max, 3d Coat and Fusion.
      Personally I use Zbrush and Modo for the majority of my workflow but I don't animate/rig I just design stuff : )

    I regularly see great similarities between the skeletal and muscle systems used by various companies during CGI breakdowns. Are they all the same industry standard plugins or are the muscles and skeletons manually modeled and traditionally rigged underneath the outer mesh using the same techniques?
