      vanquish is an amazing game, but it's a very different game.
      it's pretty much a "shoot em up" done in 3d, many bigger enemies transform the game into a bullet hell...
      this instead is a very well done "narrative driven" game

      Except it has better character depth and shooting the robots until they're reduced to scrap metal is ridiculously satisfying.

    It's not "Japanese Gears of War" as some people say. Gameplay-wise it's very similar (less tedious, though, and has more variety), but the characters, the story and the direction is on another level. I did not expect quality writing from it, but holy shit. Must-play for all sci-fi fans.

    This game has so much franchise potential. Either move forward with the after credit scene and make a sequel with that or make a totally different sequel or make a prequel, show how Dan came to be known as the Survivor or make a Buddy Action shooter showing Dan and Big Boo in the special forces. I really want more of this. I hope Sega gives BD another chance.

    To Shill the game harder than the video, Binary Domain recently went on sale for Steam(PC) this week and will resume to be till August 22. The game is 80% off and is cheaper than a Kid's meal at a fast food restaurant. Drop the Big Mac you don't need and get yourself hours of entertainment instead!
    I have to thank you for this video, as despite my love for the Yakuza series this game flew completely under my radar. I just recently bought it and found myself having a good time despite my biases to most shooter games. I found it a little difficult to get into at first but once past the tutorial the game just picked up and before I knew it the game had me hooked. I'd say anyone who likes to play games for the boss battles, this game is definitely a good addition to their collection as it really emphasizes what it's like to be just a small squad fighting giant deadly robots. They're grand, tenacious and relentless but can be defeated if you yourself can be even more tenacious to the point that eventually you'll notice you're dodging missile barrages while knocking away armor piece by piece to get to the weakspots. It's that sense of scale as well as gameplay that really makes Binary Domain a keeper for me, with the characters and setting being what helps it come together for me. I was far more impressed than what my expectations held, so I have to say thanks to you HyperBit, for introducing a hidden gem that was certainly a pleasant experience.
    (PS. Here's a con to the game: small walking segments that you can't speed up sprinkled throughout the campaign. Not the worst offender but I'm getting really tired of seeing it.)

  • @AxelLeJeff
    @AxelLeJeff Před 8 lety +1

    I picked this game up on steam a while ago, and you nailed it with the intro. The problem I have with the game is the voice commands. It rarely picks up my voice appropriately. I get the sense that it's hella replayable, but when the game thinks I'm saying "shut up" instead of "Sorry" after friendly fire, it's pretty annoying. By the way, with voice enabled, you can apologize to your team to mitigate lost rep.
    The game really does play differently when you rely on voice compared to button commands, but I still have 6 phrases the game doesn't recognize. Fortunately, none of them are vital, and a couple would only piss off my squad.

    Really fun game indeed. The few little flaws here or there really don't change the fact that it's never been this fun to shoot robots, something I usually hate in games due to how usually unresponsive to damage these are made to be. The devs here really knew what it takes to make it feel satisfying with the many little debris and limbs flying off and all the potential reactons from being shot.
    Also the end when the game just decides to pile up plot twists after plot twists was amazing. It was so dumb I loved it.

      Actually, the requirements for the best ending are just plain stupid. I had Cain at almost max trust, but Rachel was at second level because I didn't like her. And so, my favourite character went missing and never came back.

    The voice recognition gets it wrong at least 20% of the time and the mouse acceleration is the strongest out of any game I've played and I still liked it. Good stuff.

  • @TechnoSyndro
    @TechnoSyndro Před 8 lety +48

    I don't agree with your point about the voice languages at all. I thought it worked really well how the Japanese characters would speak Japanese when just speaking with one another, but switch to speaking accented English when speaking with the non-Japanese characters that wouldn't understand them. It added a sense of realism I wouldn't have expected from the game, as in real life that's how it would go, and I thought the detective's English VA did a decent job trying to sound like the Japanese original. All of the rust crew members speaking their respective languages while all magically understanding each other would have been ridiculous and completely taken me out of the game. Would you really believe that Dan and Big Bo are the kind of guys that would be multilingual?

    • @HyperBitHero
      @HyperBitHero  Před 8 lety +20

      You think it's realistic that a character would completely change voice actors and sound totally different when speaking a different language? JYB's role as the detective didn't sound anything like his Japanese actor in my opinion and really pulled me out of the game. Plus, that isn't even the only character he plays in the game and uses the same fake japanese engrish accent for. Also, you are misunderstanding me with the actors. I don't think they should all speak different languages to one another and understand each other, just be played by characters who actually have their respective character's accents. Cain sounds french and throws around french phrases all of the time, and I liked that. That's why I compared it to Siren: Blood Curse. That game had japanese actors and english actors speaking other languages to communicate with one another, so it sounded authentic. That's all I was asking for, just not having everyone played by american doing fake accents. Really, I only have a problem with Faye's voice. She didn't sound Chinese at all to me.

    I had no idea the team(s) behind Ryu ga Gotoku/Like a Dragon developed this game.
    I ended up watching a walkthrough of the game out of curiosity, and it really surprised me what the game contained. What I had heard way back then was rather unenthusiastic, notably toward the trust system that was, while unique, somewhat under-utilised & the gameplay was standard affair. But when watching the walkthrough, I ended up discovering an unusually cohesive mixture of cheese going up 'n' down on the mild-mature levels with a surprisingly well put-together story that I could take seriously.
    I'm also looking forward to laughing at peeps whom may be quick to write in their reviews for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare "Infinity Ward brings forth proper robot gore for the first time" when games such as Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, Binary Domain & Borderlands 2 already had robots hopping one legged going "Ow! Ow! Ow!!", dragging themselves to their guns, changing tactics or otherwise reacting inhumanely to dismemberment years before.
    It's definitely a rough gem, but still one with a shine that I should look into playing.

    Kind of almost wonder what it'd be like, if they ever thought to bring this game into the spotlight again, and think about making a sequel with the new Dragon engine.
    Could even have something like the possible twist of the main character being a hollow child, or something, amongst other things that this game's setting could capitalize on.

    I bought this on PC a couple months ago and got bored within the first hour from the very standard third person shooter gameplay (I had this game confused with Vanquish when I bought it). I also had no idea that there were any squadmates other than Bo or that the game's scenery changed so much. The destructible body parts on robots were cool but I didn't really understand the appeal of this game until watching this, now I'll definitely go back and give it another shot, thanks!

    Thanks to this video I had the chance to pick up Binary Domain on the PC during this last Steam sale. Through 2 play sessions I beat the game at 11 hours including breaks to go walk the dogs and talk to family/alt tab to the internet. I enjoyed this game a lot and will agree that this game deserves a solid recommendation.
    There's just something about a Japanese take on western style games that really interests me. Maybe it's the ability to experience more japanese stories in games without having to learn some weird game that I'm not used to that's attached to it.
    But yea, this was fun as hell and I would never have tried it without this video. Thanks man.
    Funny enough, whenever I did see Binary Domain in the Steam Store it honestly made me think of Bionic Commando more than a standalone thing, not sure why. Mainly the cover art and the closeish name I suppose.

This game was among them and it completely hooked me in without me having any idea of what it was (aside from being a 3rd person shooter). Such a great game and really wish another game; whether it be a sequel or similar type of game be made with the usual improvements that come with experience.
