- Hi, this is my first youtube video and today I'm sharing two of my recent makes, a tricky WIP and my next planned project.
I hope you enjoy watching my video and consider subscribing to hear about my new videos. Please do hit the like button too, thank you!
Patterns and fabrics I mention:
NewLook N6707 - lilac polycotton from Rainbow Fabrics (out of stock)
McCalls 8240 - navy animal print jersey from Higgs and Higgs (out of stock)
Tilly and the Buttons Lyra dress - viscose marrocaine from Rainbow Fabrics (out of stock)
Papercut Patterns Nova Coat - Coating fabric from Pound a Metre (out of stock)
I do have too much fabric and feel the same, but also can't help myself 😂
With first blouse just add a gathered panel onto the bottom to make up the additional length you want ie peplum or skirt (dress). Also in future read the pattern instructions which usually state the height of person the pattern is made for as well as the height of the model wearing the example.
Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely should have read the measurements more carefully x
Love the shirt you are wearing in the video. It looks cozy.
Thank you, I'm a big animal print fan 😄
Also well done on your first video, 😊
This was a super first video. You explain things very well. Hurray! Somebody else who gets jittery when the fabric stash starts getting out of control. I’m exactly the same and tend to feel in a race to make things fast, just to get my fabric stash back into my comfort zone. Your makes are beautiful, despite your disappointment at the blouse being too cropped.
Thank you Marion, I think it's the feeling that I'll never have enough time to sew it all. Thank you so much for watching, really glad you enjoyed it 😊
I've been thinking of making the Nova coat so I'll be following your progress. One of the regular vloggers made it, maybe last year. They hadn't enough fabric so they made it in two colours. I think it was light grey and mustard yellow. It looked great! I wish I could remember who it was! 🤔
It's now finished so I will be sharing the details soon. I sized down and made a cosy hack to the sleeves 😊
I made my first Lyra from cotton poplin, so much easier, but I love it!
Re the Nova coat, I definitely recommend you size down. Good luck. 😁
Cotton poplin is always a dream to sew with, you know where you stand with it 😄 thanks for the tips
This was a really well done video. You’re a good presenter that stuck to the most important points without rambling. Really like your makes; the McCalls sweater is pretty darn cute. I’ve seen that collar detail on an upscale clothing site and really like it.
Thank you Lisa, that's so kind of you x
Perhaps you could add a peplum or a gathered skirt to the blouse. It wouldn’t need to be buttoned down either.
Thanks for the suggestion 😊
Super. Love the sweater. 😊
Thank you! 😊
I just finished my second McCall's 8240. I really like that pattern. Welcome to YT. You're a natural! 😊
Thank you 😊 I think I'll be making more versions too x
I made the blouse in a pretty white cotton with tiny sprigs of roses and a 10 whale corderoy pinafore dress and I used the leftover fabric from my blouse for the facing of the dress 😊 so I can’t wait for some cooler weather to ware them xx
That sounds so pretty! X
Just add an extension to the first blouse, maybe some lace or a ruffle like the collar 🤗 welcome to utube 🤗
Thank you, good tip x
Loved your vlog and so pleased you use big4 patterns!
Hi, yes I do like the big4 as even though the sizing can be tricky at least it's consistent 😆 Also, the indie patterns can be a bit pricey for me sometimes x
Lovely first video. Congratulations.
Great makes with nice, honest reviews. Well done.
Thank you, that's very kind of you x
This is the first sewing podcast I’ve ever watched. You did a wonderful job. I can’t wait to see your next one.
Thanks so much for watching! CZcams is great for sewing, so many channels to chose from x
Subscribed. You are a polished CZcamsr on your first video and gave valuable tips. Can you make the sound a little louder? The sound is better on your second video!
Thank you for watching 😊
Loved your first video, congrats! You talk really natural and have lovely makes. Looking forward to next time!
Thank you so much 😊
Great vlog!
Thank you 😊
This was a pleasure to watch. Can’t wait to see more from you.
Thank you, that's really kind x
the blouse is on my list to make, thanks for the tips for adjustments!
Enjoy, it's a lovely pattern x
I liked your video. Great job. I use medical paper I purchased from Amazon to keep slippery fabrics in place when cutting and sewing. It works great. I learned this tip from CZcams.
I've never heard of that, thank you for the tip. I have a treasured piece of viscose marrocaine that I want to use so will look into the medical paper x
Loved your first vlog 😍
Thank you 🌼
Loved your video. Well done
Thank you 😊
Great video… looking forward to more ❤
Thank you so much for watching x
I really enjoyed your first video. Looking forward to the next one and seeing more of your lovely makes!
Thank you for watching x
Enjoyed your first video!
Thank you for watching 🌼
Great 1st video and your blouse and jumper were lovely x
Thanks so much! 😊

Thank you for watching 😊
Congratulations on a great first effort ! I look forward to watching future episodes.
Thank you for watching x
Such a great first video! ❤
Thank you so much Amelia! X
I love the colour and the pattern is pretty
Thank you very much 😊
Lovely first vlog!, welcome to the youtube community, I've made the new look top but I always lengthen tops anyway, I\be also made the Nova coat and it is very oversized, fine if you like that look but I sized down a couple of sizes and still have plenty of room
Thanks so much for watching Rachel! Thanks for the tip about the Nova, I was also thinking to add a couple of snaps so I can close it - if I can get them through the heavy fabric x
Congrats on the new channel! I look forward to watching it grow!
Thank you Theresa 😊
Wonderful fir st blog. Congrats!
Thank you so much! 🌼
Great first video, love the blouse, as already said, add a gather on the bottom or peplum.
Thank you for watching and for the suggestion 😊
Great video thanks for sharing your makes and plans! Looking forward to seeing your Nova coat! Love the fabric! That coat seems to be on my list every year but never get around to making it xx
We all have projects like that, I hope you find time soon 😊 thanks for watching x
Really good first vlog. Well done. Great to see a South Londoner on the sewing socials. 😊
Hi, thanks for watching! I run a sewcial in redhill if that's not too far for you? Details are on my IG x
Love all your pattern, fabric choices and makes, great first vlog. Good to see big4 patterns, which I also sew alongside indie. I found the Nova a dream to make up, even having to shorten it as I’m under tall (mine is posted to my grid) look forward to seeing yours and your future vlogs
I like the big 4 too, they have some lovely designs. I'll look up your photos x
Great first video. Youre good at this! I love your makes and would enjoy seeing them on you! I made the McCalls pattern in a cranberry double knit last winter and cant wait to make another in this gorgeous periwinkle double knit i bought years ago. Looking forward to your future videos...
Thank you so much. On my editing list is figuring out how to add photos 😆 Those mccalls sweaters sound lovely, enjoy making up the newest one x
Lovely video, congratulations, I went to Ally Pally last year, the show is great have a good day, I have a lot of fabric and do often feel over welded 😂 I’ve also put a clapper on my Christmas list when family ask what would like.
The shows are overwhelming you're right. I'm going on Friday to hopefully miss the crowds x
Congratulations on your vlog. Lovely makes. Would love to see pics of you wearing your makes. Clare from New Zealand 🇬🇸 xx
Thanks Clare! You live in a beautiful part of the world x
Love your makes, especially the blouse. That has been on our to-make list for a while. Have subscribed, and look forward to future videos. We also have a fairly new sewing channel. Samantha & Caitlin x
Thank you! Good luck with your channel, I'll take a look x
Welcome to CZcams! I enjoyed your first video. I do have the New Look blouse pattern but have not made it yet. I’m glad you mentioned how cropped it is. I will definitely lengthen it! I also have the McCalls sweater pattern. I did make that one and it turned out beautifully. Looking forward to your next video and how you’re coming along with your plans. 👗🪡🧵🥰
They're great patterns. How did you find the placket on the sweater?
Loved your 1st video and your makes. The lilac blouse is gorgeous. We are also going to the show on Friday but I’m definitely intending to buy some fabrics as being a new sewist I do not have a stash. 😊
Thank you Karen. Enjoy the show, I'm sure you'll find some beautiful fabrics x
Congratulations on your first sewing vlog, great job! Thanks for your thoughts on the New Look blouse. Your version definitely looks shorter than the one the model is wearing. And thanks for the tip about the armholes. I have the pattern and the fabric, but as yet haven't sewn it up. I want to buy that McCalls pattern also, just waiting for it to go on sale at my local fabric shop. Have fun at the Sewing and Knitting Show.
Enjoy sewing up the blouse, the collar is so pretty and apart from all the gathering it goes on quite easily x
Very nice first video! Just randomly found you on my CZcams feed. 😊 I would highly recommend a clapper. I bought one last year because I was planning on making a coat and have used it many, many times since on all kinds of fabrics and projects.
Thank you for watching! Lots of people have recommended a clapper now so I'll get shopping. Thanks x
I have made the New Look shirt and it is rather short. I am short waisted and it doesn’t stay tucked in.
I suppose that's the style they were going for but I would like it a bit longer too 😊
Great video, you communicate well without a lot of extra talking. I like to the point videos. You have a nice selection of makes. Pics of you wearing them would be nice, but I know this is your first video. You did a great job! I love seeing what people make and I love hearing about their experience with certain patterns. We are all fabric hoarders, don't feel bad! It just happens! Have a great time at the show this weekend. Looking forward to more videos!
Thanks Amy. I had in mind to add pics but need to get my head around the editing still 😆 Thanks for watching x
Hi Sonia. Lovely video. It's always fun to find a new sewing video in the community You are a natural at this. I like that your projects included big 4 patterns. I loved seeing the blue animal print top. It's one of the patterns I'd like to do for autumn so your feedback was helpful. Lots of great makes. I'd love to see them on you and know your size for reference. Welcome and happy sewing. See you soon.
Hi Kathy, thank you so much for watching and your kind words. I'll try to add my sizing next time and more pictures. I like the big 4 designs, yes the sizing and instructions can be a bit off sometimes but they're also more in my price bracket 😆
Would recommend the clapper, really helps. Enjoyed your blog thanks
That's good to know, it's on the list 😊
Congratulations Tania on your first CZcams video, you are a natural 👍👍👍. It’s a pity that the lilac blouse is so short, it is so pretty 😊😊. I have the McCall’s pattern, but haven’t sewn it yet, thank you for the information, when I do it, I will pay extra attention 😉😉. I look forward to watching your videos. Karen🧵👗👚🪡✂️
Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words Karen. Enjoy making the blouse 😊
Enjoyed your first vlog! I would highly recommend a clapper, it really does make a big difference when pressing fabrics that won't behave. Love how your Lyra is looking but it's a shame the fabric is so delicate xx
Thanks Karen, glad you enjoyed watching! I'll invest in a clapper for sure x
Pretty smooth for a first video. Well done! Enjoy the show, good luck on not buying any fabric. 😁
Thank you!
Great video.. I hope to make the Lyra for a Christmas dress in a thin cord.. your tops are too cute. ...
Thanks! Have you made the lyra before? I'd recommend doing a toile first, I'm going to talk about some fitting issues in my next video...
@@justletmesew no I haven't made the Lyra yet.. I will watch your next video for sure..Thanks
HI Tania....thanks for your video, enjoyed watching it. I will also be at the Ally Pally show on Friday, so i will look out for you. Jayne x
Hi Jayne, thanks for watching. I'll look out for you too! X
Really enjoyed your 1st video and seeing your makes and plans. I don't tend to use the big 4 that much due to finding indie patterns tend to fit me better
Thank you for watching. One positive of the big 4 is the fit issues tend to be the same on all of their patterns, for me at least. I know shoulders will be too wide and the armsyce too tight. I find indie patterns all use a different block so lots of measuring and toiling is needed 😊
Wonderful video, and I'll definitely stick around to see what you do. Your audio is a bit on the low side, I really had to crank up my speakers to hear what you were saying. Minor detail though. Just figured I would mention it. Can't wait to see the next one!
Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback x
Welcome to CZcams, and congrats on a great first video! ❤ If you get a chance to show us a bit of the Knitting and Stitching Show and/or talk about your experience for your next video, I'd love that! I live all the way over on the west coast of the US but dream about being able to go myself one day!
Thank you 😊 I will do some filming and take photos x
Thanks Tanya, I really enjoyed your first vlog. I’ve made the N6707 recently and also love the collar. I talked quite a bit about on my channel re my fitting issues and how I’m managing those. I added 2” to the length of mine, which is fine on my long torso. The sweater
I’ve seen on SewSarahStyle, where Sarah shared her tussle with it too. I’ve not done the Lyra, but very happy with the Pattern Emporium Take the Chance Dress which is similar. Looking forward to your next video, enjoy the K and S show, oh, and Yes to getting a Clapper, Susan x
Hi Susan, thanks I'll take a look at your vlog. I forgot to mention that I also graded out at the waist and meant to also lengthen the bodice 🙄 I've never heard of that pattern, it looks lovely and reasonably priced too x
Fantastic first video, enjoy Ally Pally, although it's over now 😅 look forward to your next one ❤
Thank you! Ally Pally was great, so much to see 🌟
Well done on your first video. I’m sure it must take a lot of courage. A photo of you wearing your garments would be nice. My mam had that cabinet when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. Keep up the great work. ❤
Thank you 😊 I've now started adding photos, I'm slowly getting to grips with editing. Ah snap, the owners of our last house left the cabinet behind, we couldn't believe our luck 😊
Great first video! I really recommend the clapper. I recently made one using a scrap of lumber I had out in my garage - just make sure it’s not pressure treated lumber and sand it smooth so you don’t get splinters. Didn’t cost me anything and makes all the difference when pressing seams - especially with heavier fabric.
Thanks for letting me know, that's a really good idea 😊
It is so wonderful to see your video! I have thoroughly enjoyed our chats on my videos, and cannot wait to get to reciprocate and see what you're getting up to! I think starch on the slippery fabric is certainly a great idea, I try to do that as much as possible on that type of fabric to reduce the headache
Fatmata! Hello! So happy you watched my little video 🥰 I think slippery fabrics will be saved for more straightforward garments for now, it was such a pain! Thank you so much for watching, can't wait to see your next video they are so joyful x
Great first video 😃 The version of N6707 that the model is wearing looks like it’s been lengthened 🤔 there seems to be a huge difference between the line drawings, your version and the models version. Really looking forward to seeing your nova coat 💞
Thank you. It does look longer, maybe the model has a short torso? 🤔
Congrats on your first video.
Thank you! X
You could add a ruffle to the bottom of the blouse to lengthen. It would be similar to a peplem. Beautiful blouse. Nice job on your first video.
Thank you for watching and for the tip x
Great first video. I also think that either a peplum of the same fabric or maybe even lace could be added to that blouse. The blouse is so lovely, it would be a shame not to wear it. You could also attach a skirt to it, thereby, turning it into a dress. Hope the next project goes well.
Thank you for watching and the ideas. The blouse will definitely get some wear 😊
I have made the Nova coat and had no issues, I’m 5ft 1 so I altered the length a bit, it was my 1st coat as well and I love wearing it, I made it in a black boucle, and a black floral lining x
Thanks Anne, that's good to know. The boucle sounds nice and cosy x
Gday. Your first vlog is wonderful 😀Lovely makes you have there 🤩Maybe do a tissue fit if your patterns have tissue or you trace them, failing that, pre measure your patterns before cutting, I have had a couple makes in the past that have come up a little short because I skipped the pre measuring ☺Look forward to your next video 🤩Thanku 'sew' much for sharing. Ana 🪡✂🧵🙂x
Thank you so much for watching and your suggestions. I kept telling myself to lengthen it, even wrote it on the packet and then forgot! Those extra steps do make all the difference x
@@justletmesew Haya, yup that is me also, write things on the pattern, then get carried away in the prep & cutting, then have an oooops moment 🤣🤣 Have a lovely day. x
Hi great to have another sewist to watch on CZcams.
I've made the Nova coat, I'll have to dig out my pattern to see which size I made but I did size down. Also from memory I don't think you will need to overlock as it's lined. Look forward to your next vlog 😊
Hi Angie, thanks for the tip. I traced the pattern last night - some of those pieces are very strange. I hope it's not too confusing to sew up x
Hi I hadn't been sewing very long and found the instructions to be good. I think doing the lining was a bit of a headscratcher as I'd never done one. Yes the pieces look strange but it does go together well. 😊
@justletmesew9238 hi I've just checked and I made a size 2 and it fit lovely, im upper bust 36 full bust 38 waist 30 ish hips 40 ish hope that helps I think I sized down 2 sizes 😊
I made the nova coat when it was under a different name when it first came out and I sized down one size which worked out well. Unfortunately I ended up cutting the coat up as I did not like the seams on the sleeves when I wore it. I followed sew jessalli sew along which was a great help. I know it was a popular coat pattern at the time but I think I jumped on the band wagon maybe without giving it much thought as to whether it would suit me. I think sometimes we buy a pattern because there is a lot of hype around it but now I try to think more carefully especially as the indie patterns are expensive but I definitely prefer them to the big four as you get more for your money with instructions and videos. Good luck with future videos xx
❤❤
👍
Hi! Lovely first video. I don't imagine it's easy to sit in front of a camera and share. You are a natural. It would be nice if you shared just a little more of what drew you to start this channel, maybe how you became interested in sewing, how experienced you are and personal style choices? The content was interesting and the points you made, and questions you asked, were the same, I'm sure, that many of us have or had. In regards to your questions about the polyester fabric you will be using for your wearable coat toile, and a clapper, I'd be very careful with any ironing on your material. To get good creases (and it is possible with other types of poly knits) you need a lot of steam and a clapper. However, you run the risk of melting the fibers, especially since this is fuzzy. Try hovering the steam over the seam, always use either a scrap of the same fabric or a pressing cloth under the clapper to avoid crushing the pile. Having a clapper in your tool set is so valuable, for all kinds of fabrics. I hope any of this was helpful. Sorry if you already had this knowledge! Good Luck! p.s. how often do you plan on uploading a video?
Thank you so much for your tips, that's a very good point about melting the fabric. I'll test it on some scraps first. Happy to share more about my sewing etc. I'm hoping to do a video once a week or once a fortnight. Thanks so much for watching!
I look forward to watching!@@justletmesew
Maybe you could add a peplum on the bottom to add length. The lilac is gorgeous.
Thanks Sharon x
Wish I could come to the show with you!
Tickets are still available...!
Annual leave not so much!
Terrific first video. Lovely makes and nice descriptions. Consider using a separate microphone as the sound was a bit low. Good luck!
Hi, thanks for watching. I had a plug in mic but will do some more research, thanks for the feedback x
Congrats on your new channel! Feedback: your sound is very quiet, can you increase it? Lovely makes!
Hi, thanks for watching. Sound is a strange one, lots of people have said it's OK but a few have said it was low. I had a mic plugged in but will do some more research. Thanks x
Enjoyed this video. Did you make the armhole adjustment on the McCalls jersey top? I definitely fancy making that after seeing yours. It would be nice to see pics of you wearing the makes. Many thanks.
Hi Yvonne, I didn't make the adjustments to the jersey top. I guess stretch is more forgiving. I'll try to sort photos for my next video 😊
Hello there from central FL! Your video popped up in my newsfeed this morning so I thought I'd come over for a visit. You made some lovely things; I especially love the first blouse you showed. Nice job! Hope you come over and visit me as well. I quilted for many years and now have been working on making some clothing for myself. That has been such a challenge! Happy Sewing!!
Thanks for watching! Quilting is very impressive, getting everything to match up is tough. I've been over to your channel too 😊
Thank you!
Congrats on your first video!🎉 Would you be able to add a lace detail or something like that at the bottom to extend the length?
Thank you Angie. I may just tuck it in to my persephones but uouve just given me an idea to add an extension as a pretend hem facing...x
Just found you by chance. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more from you. Could I ask if the tee shirt you are wearing is me-made or should that be you-made 🤣Could you tell me which pattern you used because it is lovely and really suits you. There are so many tee shirt patterns around at the moment. Thank you 😊😊
Hi, it is me-made. Its the Tabitha tshirt from the Tilly and the buttons Make it Simple book. It's a relaxed fit, not too clingy. The fabric is from Simple Life fabrics, a small independent business run by Sarah (the nicest lady!). Thanks for watching x
Thank you so much for your reply. Will take a look at that book 😊😊
Why don’t you add a peplum to the bottom of your blouse which is beautiful?
Thanks for the suggestion 😊
I have found that Simplicity patterns are easier for me to sew. Have you sewn any?
That's interesting. I have sewn simplicity patterns but I can't remember which... x
Congrats on your fist video!
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed watching 😊
Congrats on your first vlog! You did great! 🎉. Happy sewing 🧵 😊 🧵
Thank you! 😊
Nice makes!
Thank you 👍
