I am working on a new series that deals with modding the Xbox 360 to be able to play more games, have a custom dashboard, and more! This time we go ahead and do an Xbox 360 slim hard drive upgrade so that we can load more games later after modding it.
It is super easy to add this bigger hard drive in your Xbox 360. It literally takes seconds. The simplicity of adding this hard drive makes it easy for us to add more space and enjoy more video games. Video games nowadays are getting bigger and bigger and need a lot more space to be able to play them.

Can you play original Xbox games with that hard drive or does it have to be official tissue That's the impression I have is it true it has to be an official Microsoft hard drive?
I know im late to the video and watching this and even asking this, but i recently got my own 360 slim and i also found super cheap Kingston SSDs A400 series 480gb for like $20ish, will there be any improvements by using the ssd on 360? maybe smoother ui? faster load times of games by any chance or anything or is it just useless to put an ssd in it?

No I just installed it as it came from factory. And I’m not sure if they make SSDs for Xbox
@@PABGames hmm... I thought you could get a case / caddy for the HDD, but without a drive, just empty. Then take an SSD of whatever size one chooses, place it in the case (the SSD may have to be formatted) and insert it into the drive bay. Thank you 🤓

2:34 you realize those are the proprietary flashed firmware drives specifically made compatible with the Xbox 360's firmware, there's no how to about that. We all can use external USB 2TB HDDs or, SSD/SSHD! That's that problem There are no SSDs for the Xbox 360 or xbox one because the the Xbox 360 won't just accept whatever 2.5 inch SSD you slap in there and format it. No, you have to flash the firmware on the drive itself that you had specifically bought for the Xbox 360 for better speed so Minecraft would stop LAGGING ALL THE TIME!
idk about the 360 but the xbox 1 can accept any drive 500GB to 2TB if you partition the drive correctly. I know because I just put a 2TB SSD in my xbox1x.
@@yizeverienametaken Partition correctly? That's different from formats. What are the specifics of what you are saying exactly? I always believed it had to do with the firmware of the drive itself and then have the console format it to be compatible with the console content as well as the FAT32 that the PC can access. For Xbox when formatting a compatible drive, it creates a folder specifically to console content which is unreadable to the PC however the PC can still put FAT32 files/folders on the same flash drive separately on the root of the drive, I listen to the Spongebob and Horton movies I ripped/converted to Pro Logic 2 MP3s from the flash drive while I play my games on my Visiontek Pocket SSD for 28MB/s out of the max 35 for gaming performance, faster than 15.75MB/s DVDs but certainly slower than the stock HDD. I would personally like to get an SSD of my choice inside my 360 so Mine-CRAP can stop lagging/juddering all the time.

That stinks that legally I can only use a 500gb official drive. Was hoping I could buy a 1 or 2tb hard drive and put it in the shell.
But it's still cool that it is possible just unofficially.
Maybe later in the future it will be a fun project.

@@DittoBlast if u want backwards compatibility you need an official drive but otherwise any unbranded 2.5” sata hdd works fine

Can you use any hdd?
No, the 40 other Gigabytes aren't reserved for the operating system. When you put a 16GB flash drive into a PC, it can only read 14.9GB same with 32GB being read as 28.6GB and my 120GB Visiontek Pocket SSD which goes 28MB/s on 2.0 ports is read as 111GB on my Xbox 360 so that little loss than advertised has nothing to do with it. In fact, 512MB is reserved for the flash drive or HDD/SSD for Xbox 360 functionality.
To add it's because the marketed number for the drives is Gigabytes (GB) which are exactly 1 billion bytes each with KB, MB, and TB being 1000 of the previous units like with metric units.
But the console itself uses Gibibytes (GiB) which are roughly 1.07 billion bytes each. This is because computers use base 2 for their units, so each unit is 1024 (2^10) of the previous one. It's also dumb because windows despite saying "GB" actually shows you "GiB" of capacity
So 1GB/1GiB = 10^9/2^30 = ~0.931. So a hard drive marketed as 1TB is actually 1TiB, or 931GiB when plugged into your system. Even more confusing, Windows shows Gibibytes but calls them Gigabytes, which furthers the confusion. Funny enough, Linux will correctly show GB as proper GB, so if you dual booted into Linux, you'd see 1000GB.
The interesting thing is that it varies. I have two "1TB" SSD's that show as 953 GiB in Windows. That means they used 1 TiB and have extra space reserved for stuff like garbage collection and stuff.

The only I was able to find was the 500gb version here: amzn.to/380bACz I’m not sure if you can find one that is 1TB. Maybe amazon has something, but I don’t have experiencing opening the drive and replacing it with a 1TB. Sorry, I don’t want to lead you the wrong way. you can but the drive won't work because the system supports up to 500gb internal hard drive signed by MS
But this isnt a mod its almost the same than slapping a usb into your xbox
