That voice is no longer with us, a fleeting existence in her childhood, and we have the recording to treasure, and the artist to carry on to grown up greatness.
Soon after she won NGT , a couple months later at the Summer Festival at the border she sang Dinah Washington ' What a Difference a Day Makes '.. So ,so , good. Actually , I'd say sublime. And the bow at the end to the crowd, so endearing 😍😍
I'm just glad i lived long enough to hear this young lady.
It’s not whether she’s a better singer now. Clearly, she is. But her early recordings stand completely on their own as just remarkable performances where we first see the same talents we still see today. But watching the confidence and stage presence of Angelina at 7-9 years old is something I’ve never seen before in 70 years. And, listening to a very young Angelina bring back musical eras so authentically with her covers of 60 year old classics is just a joy.

People forget she is Norwegian and at 8 years old she is being interviewed in English.
If you want early Angelina, try "I WHO HAVE NOTHING" in studio when she was 6. She mentioned starting at 1 1/2. There is a vid clip of her singing some Whitney Houston using a hairbrush for a microphone at that age.

There is no explanation for this except that Angelina is a modern-day Mozart
They bring her from Norway, interview her in English in front of a live studio audience (and millions more on TV), and she calmly kills this song with a perfect, jazzy interpretation that few professional singers could match (listen for back-phrasing, trailing vibrato, rasp, vocal fry and breath control). At 8 years of age!
My favorite line is: "I started very young" (like she's now a mid-career star - at 8!). Incredible.
No one can be taught to sing like that. She is born to sing.
Her cover of At Last is amazing. I think she was 8 in that one too, or maybe 9. Just superb, still one of my Angelina favorites.
My 2 favorite "baby" Angelina performances, both when she was 8, are the finals on AGT where she killed Summertime & a few months later where she channeled Dinah Washington's What A Difference A Day Make at an outdoor concert. Both are mind blowing. As far as my daily playlist goes, I prefer her older performances. The youngest performance on that is 9 with I Put A Spell On You & the rest are all 10 or older. But I really enjoy watching her very young performances on reaction videos because they are so amazing for her age.

Happy you did this one. Its always been one of my favorite performances. I think you can really hear her style developing around this age. Not even the annoying Rosie O'Donnell could knock Angelina off her game. A truly remarkable 8 year old music prodigy unlike any other.
One reactor mentioned how gracefully AJ responded when she realized she misunderstood Rosie. I think AJ's genuine sweetness and humility is one of the keys to her greatness.
Angelinas humbleness is something I have never seen before. Just the way she receives the gifts after singing, takes your breath away. She hugs Rosie first, then giving her warmest thank you when she realize the gifts are for her. What a sweet young girl she is. I am so proud of her.

The earliest song she did in a studio and recorded was 'I Who Have Nothing'. She was 6!. It's super impressive even though not perfect as would be expected in a 6 Y.O. Look forward to seeing it.

There are two or three more before I Who Have Nothing in the school studio. Hurt. Rolling in the Deep. And one I can’t remember. It’s remarkable to see her improvement in The I Who Have Nothing recording. The earlier recordings show a very enthusiastic young girl singing for the pure joy of singing. Not worrying so much about style. She was working on style when she did that last one.

I have never seen a more documented singer/ever! I know Mery Zamani (Angelina's grandmother) is a painter, but she will be remembered in these precious documentations , an original art form in itself. And we have probably only seen a portion of what has been made. One thing l always noticed viewing these videos, although Angelina is introverted, she is not at all shy, insecure, proud or self conscious. I mean, seriously, to show herself in a constant developmental format is so courageous. Other singers l have viewed haven't shown that level of security. MrLboyd, l would strongly suggest going back to 2012. Six year old Angelina, in studio, singing " I who have nothing", Tom Jones cover..This is probably the real beginning, after her experience with the orphan girl she gave her shoes to!

Angelina's early performances are so endearing, clearly talented, striving to get her body to produce the sound that she knew was needed. The early studio recordings at the school of culture and music are there as a baseline for us to see where her style grew from. The one I would choose is when she was 6/7 - her grandma says 6, but she gets it wrong sometimes... In an interview (8 years) she listed her influences as Shirley Bassey, Billie Holiday , Louis Armstrong. This song was first sung by Shirley Bassey, later made famous by Tom Jones (both singers from Wales (in the UK)). A power ballad by such a young girl? You bet! This was the second video I saw of her after Gloomy Sunday, that was a couple of years ago and I was hooked. I echo what another subscriber suggested, do the NGT performance of Bang Bang. She had just turned 8.
Yes, of course, Angelina is "singing" the song, and beautifully.
But, it is "much more" than her executing the singing part that led the audience and all of us to applaud enthusistically at the end of the performance, would you agree with me?
Now, where we could differ is on the exact meaning of that much more.
For me, it has to do with her spirit that carries almost all of her songs.
There lies the secret of the mind-blowing effect that she produces on people, of the awe inspiring miracle of welcoming her in our lives, of experiencing the mystery of her precious gift to the world.
At seven in interview she was ask about the meaning behind “Gloomy Sunday “. (Paraphrasing ) Her reply was I knew exactly what it was about as I know English very well. I would start with her rendition of “I Who Have Nothing “ at six. Previously she had recorded Rolling In The Deep, Hurt, Sky Fall. There is video of her singing at four or so with a toy plastic guitar singing Rolling In The Deep. She was singing earlier around the house. There is also the clip of her singing at eighteen months of age.
She is incredible and I love her early jazz.

My recommendation for her earlier stuff isn't so much a skill-level demonstration but (1) a foundation demonstration and (2) to broaden OUR understanding of HER style selections. The 1935 Gerswhin. A late '30s Billie Holiday performance. BANG BANG from the '60s. Then a '50s Hawkins song that she probably first heard versions from decades later. I don't know if I can presume she 'wants to do these' (I DO THINK THAT) but at least we know she decides to do them. For me, it's not a Skill Set Demonstration. It's a blow-out-the-walls for stylistic prisons.
