I mean it when I say, when I played this back in 2013. It was and still is the *_most_* fun I have had with a game. When I played through it the first time, I didn't really know what the chaos system was. So after I got a pretty dark ending, I replayed it trying to not kill a soul. Such a great, fun and immersive game.

Dishonored is probably the first game I completely fell in love with to the point that I actively seeked out the in game lore through books and fully searched through the locations to get a better understanding of the game world. To me, Dishonored has this brilliant ability to tell stories and bits of lore through NOC’s, books but primarily: Locations. You can piece together stories from just looking around abandoned buildings and empty streets. Amazing game

Dishonored 2 is definitely a good game, the story however doesnt feel as compelling as Dishonored 1 and its not optimized well for PC at all, but since the gameplay is the same, the world building and level designs are equally as great as Dishonored 1, it automatically becomes fun to play.

    • @marcoaurelio6311
      @marcoaurelio6311 Před 2 lety +15

The thing is that they couldn't do the same again. Knowing how Arkane thinks they wouldn't go with the same "vibe" for Dishonored 2. It is a different proposal with Karnaca, it is a different protagonist, which thinks and acts different. Dishonored was a masterpiece, a gem in the game industry, so people expected Dishonored 2 to be a Dishonored with next gen graphics, but thank God they delivered something else, something more. The story had to feel different because that was the intention: to make something else. I personally don't think it is less compelling than Dishonored but that's my opinion. The optimization is dog shit tho, they could have just kept Unreal Engine, it worked just fine, in fact very very fine, I have no idea why they changed it.

@@marcoaurelio6311 Yeah i totally get your point, but when I said "the story however doesnt feel as compelling as Dishonored 1", i did not mean it had to be the same as Dishonored 1.Stories can be different and still have the same impact which Dishonored 2 did not deliver quite well. Im totally fine with the intention to make something else, but if it isnt excecuted well enough then thats where the problem lies. Objectively the narrative in Dishonored 2 isnt as strong as Dishonored 1.Also for me personally i thought Daud and Havelock were a much better antagonist than Delilah. And dont get me wrong, Karnaca is a great setting, loved every inch of it. Ofcourse, we all have the right to love things despite noticing or caring about the flaws, i think thats a good thing, to find enjoyment out of something most people cant/wont :)👍

@@marcoaurelio6311 im kinda late to the party BUT plz let me say this. They tried to make something different in D2 but its like 70% a mirror of D1 with a story that was less intresting less creative and less exctiting/motivating. They kept the patern of getting "dishonored" and starting from 0 trying to "kill" the bad guys. But so many characters were similar.
      Megan Foster was Samuel,
      Jindosh was another Sokolov ,
There is High Overseer and Paolo did nothing but High overseer in D1 who killed the Empress with HB and they tortured you and framed you,
You kill big bad Delailah but whoever played the D1 DLC have already done.
      That being said
      Dr.Hypatia was very good original.
Aramis Stilton was perfect litterally a perfect mission,
      Duke Luka was wierd
The thing with D2 wasnt that it was bad in any way its that it was more "complicated" and yet it had less meaningful things.
There was no Death of an Empress HUGE. (just corvo on frozen until saved)
There was no Plague that played huge part.
There was no Daud the great assasin that killed your beloved Empress
There was no kidnapping of a kid Lady Emily future Empress and your daughter
There was no Granny Rags and no Slakjaw
There was no Piero to make and the whole staff of the Hound Pits
There was no plot twist and betrayal from the group that rescued you
D2 was more like a Hitman game with a little emotion , D1 was filled with characters directly connected to Corvo or the death of the Empress.
Sry i wrote a lot but its a bit complicated how D2 is a great game but it cant reach the greatness of D1
If they make a D3 i hope for a completely new story with original characters and a great story of "Dishonor" magic , life and death. And ofc Stealth or Chaos.
They can keep the world but there rest have to be from scratch.

  • @L_Lawliet1907
    @L_Lawliet1907 Před 2 lety +27

Dishonored is probably one of my favourite games of all time. I never get tired of its combat and it made me spend over 50 hours grinding to get challenging yet fun achievements like "Shadow" where you have to finish the game without being detected or "just flesh and steel" where you can't use any other supernatural abilities or powers other than blink. Many people shit on the game because of its high and low chaos thing, but I love it. I always thought it was a great feature narratively and gameplay wise. Killing everything just seems boring, getting the option to not kill anyone and seeing the world with a lighter tone seems like an actually nice goal and challenge to do.
As for Dishonored 2, I'm not too crazy on some characters (Corvo was retconned to kill even regular guards now, which I didn't quite like considering the struggles I made playing him as a pacifist in the first game, they also changed the outsider's voice for some reason even when the old VA said that he was available during that time). However the gameplay and AI is even better than the first game. It may seem overwhelming but once you get the hang of it, your powers can be used in some really creative ways. The AI is customizable and can be merciless if you want them to be, big step up from the first game. I definitely recommend you check the game out.

I literally have just gotten on my Dishonored hype literally a week ago and am having so much fun coming back to this game after I played it a long time ago. I've already played it twice getting both high chaos and low chaos endings, and am working on the DLC now and eventually the achievements because this game is honestly so much fun. And you said something that had resonated so close to me which is shorter games are honestly a lot more fun. I have been struggling with finishing games like Horizon Zero Dawn and the Witcher 3 (and replaying games like Dragon Age Inquisition) because they're so huge and so long and there's a lot to do that I quickly get burnt out on since they're all open world games. While games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Detroit Become Human are definitely replayable, its the length that always burns me out. Because Dishonored is so short, it keeps my attention and makes it super easy to beat and to just have fun. It honestly is the best game to play if I'm having a bad day to just go in and assassinate some fools.
I am honestly so glad I decided to play this game again and it definitely doesn't get enough praise. Going to be playing 2 and DOTO soon and do it all over again.

I split up with a girlfriend not long after and I decided to go buy a xbox 360 but before I did I watched video game review after video game review to see which games I might like and also which games were universally liked. From batman to bioshock, far cry to halo to portal I went and purchased about 15 secondhand games and the first game I put into my console was Dishonoured! I stayed up ALL night playing that game. such a fantastic game. i've played through it at least three times, and when i introduced it to a close friend, they immediately fell in love and after some years have almost 100%ed it. great job covering what makes it so great.
i did dishonored 2 ghost + clean hands style and also watched my buddy play it on high chaos, and it's a different vibe from the original (think bright, sunny mediterranean city that's rotting from the inside out vs. rainy, gothic dunwall) but i thought it was excellent and i really recommend it. it's basically dishonored+. there's no reason anyone who loved the original wouldn't love the sequel. so many of the missions just blew me away with how unique and well-made they were. i would put the level design and gameplay a little bit above dishonored and the story and characters a little bit below (though those are very good, too).
that being said, the last dlc, death of the outsider, is honestly sort of skippable unless you're someone who really wants to finish the saga and see how it ends. the missions were frustrating and underwhelming for me (except for the last one, which gets really wild) and i thought it was a major step down from D1, D2, KOD, and BMW. a lot of other fans feel the same way, i think.
but please, play dishonored 2! you won't regret it!

man i love this game so much, and it became much more fun to play when you have mods installed, the statistics you can check while in game, the improved new game plus, skip intro etc. maybe it can have a remaster in its 10 year anniversary

There needs to be a whole game following the Granny Rags storyline from her rise in society to her fall into the void.
This would allow us to see Delilah's childhood in the castle (and understand if she was telling the truth or lying about her living situation. Also...could Granny Rags have been her mother? 🤔).
We could also see Slackjaw, the Pendleton brothers and Boyle sisters as children at some society party. We could see how they were raised. It would be great to get an idea of the impact Granny Rags had made in all their lives growing up, good and bad.

This game is just too good. I really love the enviromental storybuilding in it, the mood it sets is just addictive. And you can find so many interesting bits hidden in books and audiographs. Easily my favorite game of all time.

Dishonored even fixes some pet peeves of mine. You know how in videogames, there's sometimes blocked-off passages with a bit of furniture in the way, which literally anyone could climb over within seconds, but your videogame protag can't? If a "barricade" looks slightly awkward to climb, you just know it has an invisible wall in front of it. Dishonored lets you climb that stuff. Dishonored lets you climb nearly anything, even when there's no benefit to it, and it feels so liberating. The total opposite of context-sensitive jumping.

I agree with you about the achievements in this game - the way they influence the play style, decision making and, crucially, the narrative is fantastic. So much better than arbitrary number grinding achievements. It would have been so easy for them to have stuff like "Kill 10 dogs with a springrazor" and it makes such a difference. When I finished my first playthrough, which was really unfocussed and (unsurprisingly) high chaos, I started a new low chaos playthrough the very next day. So unusual for me to complete a game like this and go straight to "OK, I can do better", but the achievements helped me realise what was possible. So yeah, I love this game and I love your video about it.

I really like the little details in Dishonored, some examples i remember
if you spare the high overseer, he later returns as a weeper in the whalers level
In brigmoore witches, the witch attack in the boat level can be avoided if you stopped the witch scouting near the boat at first. This one was special cause i was doing a pacifist ghost run, i have to beat the run without getting seen and not killing anyone.

Dishonored is probably my favorite game franchise of all time, the world is just so immersive and rich with detail. I cant count how many times I've replayed each entry in the series, and even love the world so much I've read all the licensed books as well. And, as you said, it's the only game I've even tried to score all of the achievements, and had a blast doing it too! Still replay these games (and yes, the second and its standalone spinoff "Death of the Outsider" are just as good as the original BTW) and am still desperately hoping for a third Dishonored title. Fingers crossed. And while my other favorite game series--the Last of Us and Fallout-- are both getting TV series, has anyone heard anything about the Dishonored adaptation that Netflix was considering?

I think I played it originally back in like 2012 or 2013 (somewhere around that time, not sure) and even to this day it still feels as fresh as it did back then, probably more so than Dishonored 2, even with the graphical beauty of Dishonored 2 I just love the aesthetic of the first one.

YES!!!! You should play dishonores 2 its my fav game out of the 3. I know i know listen the story might be similar to the first game BUT trust me on this. The new city where you play has some of the most BEATIFUL views in all gaming. Also for some reason every time i go back to the game i find a new path that i dint know existed and since the levels are bigger and have more things to see find and kill. I am telling you its just as good as the firsr game if not better. You wont regret playing. Oh also there is two playable charactera with different abilities each

I know the locations of everything by heart 🤣 I never see myself getting bored with it. I love the stories, I love the characters, I love the funny shit the NPCs say 😂 I love the chaos system and how many different ways you can go about exploring and achieving objectives, I love the different powers you get, and omg the music is just perfect 🥹🥹🥹🥰🥰🥰 And if the word stealth was to have a picture in the dictionary, it would have the picture of this game. Simply UNmatched.
