  • I'm super pumped to be getting a new car I first found on BaT, a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500. I've been looking for a cool four seat 'vert to haul the family around in, and this one is perfect!

The only thing I would do is change the wheels. In my opinion maybe some Cragar style mags from the late 60s or 70's. Great looking car!

Nice ride dude. I have the 67' Galaxie 500 390 c.i. 6.4 liter. You are absolutely correct in your technique. Great job. Great work.

Find a Deluxe Mach 1 shiter, T- hadle and shat. Should bolt rite up. Better look and feel! Use old shock rubber mounts for bushings!

Thanks for the fun video. I have a few friendly corrections and observations.
The 352 designation on the block was only on the FE engines (352, 360, 390, 406, 428, 427), not on the 385 engines (429 and 460). The 1966 model Galaxy came with a 240 6, the 289 small block, and the 352, 390 and 428 FEs. There were a handful made with the 427, but those are super rare. The 360 was a low displacement truck motor (and actually the last FE to continue in service).
In addition to the problems you pointed out, those two tone seat covers and door panels are not original, nor is the white steering wheel, dash and other interior metal parts, which I assume were sprayed. And that blue paint job! Lol. In my not so humble opinion, the blue and white look is a wee bit wonky, as are the wheels and air suspension. But horses for courses. It's certainly a super fun car!
In 1982, I bought a 1966 Galaxy 500XL convertible with a 352 (red with white interior and top). I actually replaced the motor in the car with another 352 I had already rebuilt as a school project (which was kind of dumb because the car's original engine was perfectly fine, but it was my way to learn how to do engine rebuilds). I have loved Galaxies ever since and I'm more of a purist, though I am not an "it's only original once" fanatic, lol. I also kind of love the silly 352, but I'm happy for you that yours is a 390!
Great car and video (despite my nits). Thanks again for sharing. I just subscribed.

VERY cool, I stumbled upon the other video you did after this and went, "Wait a second....I know that car....is that the car from BaT?" Yes it is! I watched that auction. NICE looking car! I'm actually in the process of buying a 66 Fairlane that was on there a while back. Nice enough that you can go drive it now, but still plenty of personal touches you can do to make it your own. Congrats!

Yep, that's where she's from! Needs a lot of work that wasn't listed in the auction unfortunately, but that's how it goes buying from a dealer. Good luck with your Fairlane!

Nice. I wish mine had its original 390. It had a 289 in it when I purchased it

A couple of things I noticed. This was not a proper restoration. The use of that robin egg blue everywhere is so wrong. Only the body exterior would have been that color coming off the assembly line. The interior would have been different, but something that would have looked good with the exterior. The Engines would have been painted the same Ford Engine blue like all other Ford engines were painted and not that color matching the exterior of the body. The fire wall should be painted black like the rest of the engine compartment.
