  • I recently received the Chihiros WRGB 2 90cm version. I let it run for a bit over 2 weeks just so I can do a proper comparison, showdown video pitting the Chihiros WRGB 2 against the ONF Fat One+ Plus and the Twinstar 900S Light II. Now, don’t get me wrong all of these are great lights. But for what I need and the plants that I grow, I have carefully decided on which light works best for me. If you are in love with planted tanks, and grow low to high light dependent plants, check this video out and I hope this can help you make a better decision when purchasing your next planted aquarium LED light. Also, sorry about the super long video, but just know that I tried to condense this video as much as possible without losing any important details.

    Was eagerly waiting for this review. It’s nicely done and comprehensive comparison (some ppl only show unboxing and brightness and that’s it). It was great to see the comparison of price, lumens, performance. It’s so surprising that twinstar is stuck with one color abs no dimmer and weird that ONF is not showing good colors. Chihiros outcompetes both and is cheapest as well. My Rotala Hra and Ludwigia gradulosa are looking incredible under wrgb 2. Thanks! Oh and I loved the music and enjoyed the video!

      Chihiros. I’m upgrading to a new 16 gallon water box tank from a Petco 10 gallon and I currently have a small chihiros already for my 6 gallon. I was leaning twinstar but I’m looking to have everything automated with an app. Once I have a CO2 splitter running front my main tank, I won’t have to worry about setting the 6 gallon mini regulator co2 in the morning. Then it’s just ferts and water changes :) This was really comprehensive. I really appreciate the time put into this.

    One thing to consider when thinking about controlability: as much as I am fine with an app controlled light for a long standing brand like Fluval, for the others... I am not so sure: if the company goes down, the app will be pulled off the stores by Apple and Google, then you have an expensive useless piece of metal. Ideally companies should provide a standard 0-10V connector to dim them, this way they can be controlled by aquarium controllers, or a DIY controller.

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  Před 3 lety +2

      I def appreciate a physical controller, ONF was smart to do that. But these apps that they release are never updated anyways, so it should work for the life of the light. Also, since they never update it. The app is pretty spotty for Chihiros.

    They look pretty good, but I was wondering in case of electric power cut, is it necessary to pair the app and the lamp again to restore the settings (Onf+ and Chihros, I mean). Because, for example I have ONF flat one (the old version), which has this issue and I can say it's a very very uncomfortable.

      V. B. Thank you! I referenced this in my other video comparison of the ONF with the Twinstar. Long story short, ONF is suppose to hold your settings for at least 24 hours after initial power outage. Chihiros you would have to reset the power. Again, this is another nice to have from ONF.

    Looking to replace my fluval 3.0. I do really like the fluval and the control it gives me but want better color rendering of my plants. I am on the cusp of getting the wrgb ii for my 60p. I did a quick search on chihiros’ facebook page and saw a ton of complaints about the app malfunctioning, specifically over the last couple of weeks, and specific issues with the green leds going dark if powered over 70% for too long. Have you heard of this problem, or have you experienced any oddities with the app of how the leds themselves function? Appreciate your video for sure. For me it’s between the wrgb and the twinstar 600sa version III. If Twinstar had an app I’d jump on that because I appreciate the build and would love to be able to adjust the settings for the price. Thanks.

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  Před 3 lety +1

      The app sucks, but it works though. Also you only really need to set the app once. Or after a power outage because it resets when the light loses power. Never had issue with the green. Tbh the Twinstar looks disappointing to me, here is why. This is just my opinion. 1. They added more power but still a weak light 2. Looks like they took out some white led and added more red 3. Still no app (common its almost 2021) 4. Whats up with the design, It now looks like the wegb2? I would still go with the wrgb2 since its cheaper.

In the case of colored plants, I’ve seen other hobbyist tanks using the Fluval 3.0 and I would not put it within this category. To me (don’t kill me), I feel like the Fluval is a budget light with all the nice bells and whistles. Fluval is about $200, at that price range, you might as well get a better light. My opinion of course. 😊😊😊 just FYI, aquarockscolorado sells the WRGB2 for not much more than the Fluval.

Think of it as getting sun burned when you’re on a beach. With that out of the way, if you don’t like the colors all at 100%, I’ve tried using red 100%, green 60-75% ish, and blue at 75-80% so it’s heavy on the red for your aesthetic pleasures. The new wrgb2 has bluetooth but I guess it is the same with the older model that uses the commander. My settings are 100 red, 75 blue, 75 green. That will auto adjust your intensity and color temp (this references the wrgb2). Hope that helps.

    Great review. A suggestion for future videos:. Cover how gracefully these products handle power outages. I have read some horror stories of the CO2 on a wall timer becoming desynchronized from the lights that use self timers. I am also interested in finding a WRGB light that can do colored plants while still maintaining the simplicity of a wall timer.

    Im looking for a light for my tank 120x50x45h with demanding plants (pantanal, wallichii, macrandra). Im thinking n°2 twinstar S2 120 cm (i think one isn't enough for a 50cm deep tank) or n°2 Chihiros vivid2. What do you think? Which one would you choose between the two? Or do you have any other solution? Thank you

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  Před 3 lety +1

      Just my opinion. If I had a 120cm tank, I would use two Vivid 2 side by side. But for the plants you have, you can also do two Twinstar 120s too if you want. But obviously the Chihiros would be a cheaper solution.

    I got a WRGB2, after almost exclusively buying twinstar s's and One Flat Nanos for my aquariums. I now hate my Twinstar and One Flat nano lights, and literally consider them a waste of money. Its no contest. The only thing going for the twinstar is how sleek its acrylic legs look, but the light spectrum is horrible. The things going for the ONF are how bright they are and how sleek they look, but they don't compare even close to the spectrum and usability of a chihiros c2 rgb
