  • Mazatrol Programming Small Concave Radius. In this video, I am machining a concave radius using the Copy OUT function instead of BAR OUT. I am machining the feature using a full radius grooving insert.

    I love that you do this Phil! I am grateful for you taking your time to help teach. - My only request/suggestion, is to gather how you plan to describe what you're doing and write it down or prepare so you don't hesitate so much between your instructions. It is very hard to follow with the many pauses. Anyways, thank you!

    I wish you could copy the groove finish toolpath down on a Mazak. I run into this shape often but i dont like profiling away from my wedge in style full radius tool, which is just a parting tool. Pushing into the cut works better. I've never had to do a production run of this shape, so i have gotta around it by roughing with a groove finish and sneaking in with offsets.

    This is a valuable tutorial. I have never tried this yet. I am confused about one thing. I notice you told the control at the beginning in your sequence data that you were taking off .500 total and leaving .010 finish stock. What determines the amount of material per pass? Is that set in the parameters in this function? Did I miss something?

    • @johnkurpiewski3996
      @johnkurpiewski3996 Před 4 lety

      Mazatrol Tips and Tricks thank you for they reply. I’m pretty sure I have it labeled right , general out , 45 holder, etc. it cuts perfectly on X and Z with a TNR value set to 0. With the exception of the chamfer being a little undersized. But to be expected. However if I input .. say .0312 TNR . Z would be off half that amount .016 and X will be off the full amount on a dia .0312. Of course these numbers flip flop and change when I change cutting directions but they do not mirror themselves like I would expect . I have seen x be .031 big and .062 big, .031small and .016 small . Z is either .032 long .016 long or .031 short or .016 short .I went through all possible index , standard or reverse. All four rotations left and right two or three times . It’s driving me crazy. What am I missing?

    • @mazatroltipsandtricks6816
      @mazatroltipsandtricks6816  Před 4 lety +1

      Sometimes the retract move during roughing with Bar Out can cause the tool to gouge the part. This is especially true if machining a deep V shape. I also wanted to make a video highlighting the Copy process.

    How do you know when to use a CPY cycle instead of a BAR OUT or BAR IN cycle? I've used mazatrol programming for a long time and I haven't used the CPY cycle often and I wonder what conditions allow you to use it?

    • @mazatroltipsandtricks6816
      @mazatroltipsandtricks6816  Před 4 lety

      It depends on the part geometry. Running a Bar Out on some features will cause the tool to whack the backside of the tool when the machine tries to escape from the part. It happens when the feature is small and the tool retracts into the part. Machining with button tool ceramic inserts on the face works well using a Copy process.
