- The secret is hidden in a poem that starts like this: "Begin it where warm waters halt."
Zack wrote an entire feature filled with maps, illustrated clues, and even more video. You can read and watch here: www.vox.com/a/fenn-treasure-hu...
Sometime between 2009 and 2010 an 80 year old man by the name of Forrest Fenn trekked out into the Rocky Mountains and hid a bronze chest filled with over $2 million dollars worth of treasure. The secret to the location of the treasure is contained within a six stanza poem. Forrest Fenn's treasure, as it's come to be known, has captivated men, women, and children around the country and world and has lured many people to the Rocky Mountains in the hopes that they'll find the gold.

UPDATE: According to Forrest Fenn, the treasure has been found!
"It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago. I do not know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot. I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the search and hope they will continue to be drawn by the promise of other discoveries."
i cant believe it was real!
Kevin Sar it’s real, I’m the treasure
What? He is still alive 😲
That is sickkk
Really hope the finder will reveal the location so that someone can solve the clues and make an awesome documentary out of it. Or even a movie!!
waiting for the moment some random person just walking through the mountains finds the chest and earning that 2 mil without even knowing a thing
Spodrmen probably going to happen
I hope thay happens too.
Just some drunk fellow that walks into the mountains by accident, and he accidentally trips over the box and falls on his face. He then kicks it in anger, but then he hurts himself because it is hard. He then opens it and becomes an instant millionaire!
Spodrmen or some kid wondering around and finds it and throws it away or his parents rob it
+Navon Myhand not instant millionaire, Its just a chest of valuable items, you must first convert it into cash to become millionaire
Spodrmen I found the treasure but didn't get it
The real Fenn’s treasure is discovering the beauty of nature

almost certain the treasure is a hoax someone posted the box being photographed in 2016 having been weathered and verifying that is was the same box. i think he wanted to live forever in the books and knew a treasure hunt that had no end would be the way to achieve it. but idk no one does until they do
Ozzylad 123 yep because that’s priceless
Update for all of y’all: the treasure was found a few days ago. The man who found it asked to remain unmanned, and the only information Fenn gave was “It was under a canopy of stars in the lush, forested vegetation of the Rocky Mountains and had not moved from the spot where I hid it more than 10 years ago”. So he really likes being cryptic.
Dear Vox, I need to take a moment to tell you something that occasionally goes unnoticed. You produce some of the most gorgeous, attention grasping video content on the internet! I love your subtle use of motion graphics, typography, and animation to truly blend and tell the aesthetics of any story. Bravo to your team of storytellers! I get so overly excited whenever a new video pops up. Thank you for being so inspiring!

Monawar Studios I disagree. It doesnt go unnoticed at all.
Hey Vox I looked for this for 4.5 months continuously in 2015. I didn't find it but I did open a tipi hotel at the north entrance to the park - found my treasure I suppose!
Trevor Harrison Nice
Trevor Harrison wow, that's a lot of disposable income to randomly open a hotel after not working for 4.5 months.
xenoblad I like how your mind immediately goes to disposable income
Bob dabiuld I mean how many people do you know can go 4 months without working, and then randomly decide to open some hotel in a lightly populated area?
I'm not trying to say anything negative about him. I just figure he's very well off financially.
yeah i basically had a breakdown in my corporate job and lived in a tent (then eventually a tiny 16ft camper) out in the woods at different locations in rockies looking for this thing and spent every dollar and credit i had. the hotel thing was just a good idea and got investors...it's impossible to get a room around there so the ROI is insane if you can keep initial investment costs down.
#1 He is a millionaire (even without the treasure).
#2 He comes from a time and culture that fancies mystery.
#3 This is not a hoax.
#4 It might have already been found "Take the treasure and go in peace".
No he said there is an article in it that needs to be returned to him.
You nailed it bagel!!! You understand that generation...good job! Yes, a wise person wouldn't go public if they found it.
@@WWGWGATikTok You know in the time we live is someone finds they're going to want all the Clout
He says he knows it hasn’t been found...there’s a possibility of perhaps a trail camera near the site so he can watch anyone that comes close, maybe he put in a check that he expects the finder to cash, and there’s an item he wants to be returned. He’s willing to keep the finder anonymous but he wants to know if it’s been found so he can call off other treasure hunters
treasure below home of Brown.
the treasure is in Brown's house basement XD
People keep mentioning "how much can an 80 year old man do...?"
A lot. An 80 year old man in a mission can do a LOT. It sounds like these hunters don't give him enough credit which is exactly why it isn't found.
I can say with 90% confidence that the treasure box is right next to the highway. That’s how he can say with 100% certainty that people have been so close to it
Well no, he even stated that its not hard to get to because he WAS 80 when he hid it. He said he couldnt manage steep inclines or the like.
Most 80 year old men in missions do a lot of praying and gardening 😘
Sounds like something an 80 year old man would say...very suspicious.....🤔
I agreee they are conpletely forgetting that Fenn was also an Accomplished Horseman....
Bears have taken it and invested it in bitcoin
Flying Cabbage they lost thousands
Flying Cabbage lol
That makes the most sense
Can't wait for the bulls to come back
What if someone already took it and wants to remain anonymous?
UploaderMaS haha, might be the best answer! Someone dug it up the day after he buried it... Would be quite funny
UploaderMaS after 10 years of no one finding it, this is the most likely answer.
I think the whole thrill is to be known as the one who found it vs its actual contents?
But it seems he goes there or has a tracker on it because he knows someone came within 200 ft from the treasure
Ashley what if they wanted to not get robbed
Firehole River - A river flowing out of Madison Lake in to the Rocky Mountains. Madison Lake is where the Brown trout was first introduced in North America. Fenn was an avid fly fisherman.
Wow, almost my exact thoughts. I come up on treasure stories and think, "this is easy", only to find out it's already been solved. My first thought, they can't figure this out and I don't even know half of the story yet. Then, I read your comment and know that I was thinking in the right direction.........but your missing a simple clue😁. Maybe I will do some research......

enjoying the actual treasure that is this place.
Alex there are 12 copy (I think) of the Declaration of Independence, I think each one is only worth 700,000
One peiece
1 - someone already found it
2 - people are not searching meticulously, maybe it was burried or in place where it can't be seen by just walking past it
3 - since it's a poem, there's a possibility that the treasure he was talking about is the adventure and beauty of the nature
Someone is going to find it by accident....someone who's not even looking for it ...just watch.
I think fenn was smart enough to put it in a spot where the chances of that happening is absolutely abysmal. I''m also sure he concealed it in some way that only someone who is looking for it likely to find it.
find it by accident? wow, what a premonition
Yep i agre it be a family who stop for picnic an part of it will be exposed .. They juat come across it..

Nick Saxe hahaha truth

well, this is your chance
Hmmmm. THIS SEARCH COULD BE HARDER THAN WE ALL THINK
are the person who found it?
What happened if someone randomly found it and took it without telling anyone?
i think fenn would be periodically checking on the site and would inform the public that its been found. it's gonna be a different story when he passes :/ (maybe he'll give the location to a trusted friend/family-member to keep tabs on it?)
Or maybe if they intentionally found it. It's illegal to enter a cave in a national park (with, like, 2 exceptions? neither in YS) if it's unmanned and you don't have permission. So if he did hide it in a cave as some have suggested, I'm not sure I'd want to call attention to the fact that I broke federal law AND just became everyone's favorite "long lost cousin." That also goes without saying anything about shovels or metal detectors, both unlawful to use. I know if I found it, I would keep my mouth shut, get a name change, and move to a new state immediately. heh
I'd let em keep looking. People are outside for once! And the box would be re-hidden with a different map and set of clues for my kids to find one day. That'd be neat. So yeah, very possible. Haha
He's put in a blue bracelet that he has requested be returned to him upon findinf the treasure.

Liam Collins I still haven't finished thief's end 😂😂
Liam Collins y'know that'd be a pretty good game the only problem I see is the treasure is 1000x less than the other games lol, a lost world, upwards of 5B$, a city of gold, and shambala!! It's hard to top that

All of those final landscape scenes -- starting around 21:00 mark -- that is the real treasure.
Have you ever thought about reading the clues backwards
Some scrub is gonna be walking through the forest and is going to stumble across the chest on accident I'm calling it. Maybe somebody has already found it and just hasn't told anyone to keep you all guessing.
Grape Flavored Bleach that's what I was thinking!
Grape Flavored Bleach forest fenn checks back on the treasure to see if anyone took it. How do u think they found someone got 200 ft from the treasure
Fenn retrieved it himself. Sounds weird, but evidence backs it up.
I hope the guy who buried it eventually goes and checks the spot where it was buried to see if it is still there. (He could try going undercover)
Grape Flavored Bleach if it was discovered, it would be fitting for it to contain have a note from Fen explaining it was more about getting people input exploring again, and to keep quiet about it, but that's too "goonies" or Indiana Jones for real life, that's a story.
I think what Fenn wanted people to do was to look for a treasure in a National Park and when they haven't found it, they realize that they were looking at it all along. The national park is the treasure.
National Treasure 3. Starring the one and only Nicolas Cage as Forrest Fenn.

Or under your wig
And it's like it's buried in his backyard
Yugoslav Partisan 1945 Three people died! You mad man ha ha
His kidney cancer caused him to be unable to walk and dig enough to hide a treasure, and so he thought, backyard's good.
How would Forrest Fenn know that someone came within 250 meters of it?
Lyndon Klymchuk he went back in 2014 and someone had been digging days previously
Someone just once told him in an email what they thought and where they went. Fenn says it is in a specific place so he just knew they were close, about 200 feet close.
Alright so which is it he went back and saw or someone told him in a email? Someones lying here or you both right
As far as I know, I have never heard him saying that he went back, all I know is that he found out about it through an email. Perhaps he found out about it in an email and later went back there.
Would seem risky tho, as treasure hunters could have followed him or he could have been caught on video driving, and therefore giving away the general area of the treasure, like the state.
Also, most people do not "dig", as he has said that the treasure is not buried. I assume that if he revealed that if someone dug close to it, everyone who had dug for the treasure would go back to wherever they dug and continue looking.
Just did some research. I never even once found someone that claimed that Fenn had gone back to the treasure. However, I did find many people who confirmed my claim.
The treasure has been found. I just wish he would say where the treasure was.
Wonder if he won't say because if I remember right if it was in a national park it would by law have to be turned in or something like that. Could be wrong but I spent a long time trying to guess myself but it's been years.
It’s official! Finally found! Can’t imagine how cool that moment would have been.

Fenn's Legacy is getting so many people to enjoy the wildlife and nature surrounding the Rocky mountains. He is having people exercising and appreciate the beauty around them. Whether he added an actual treasure chest to his legacy or not is irrelevant but the fact of the matter is that his legacy isn't the treasure itself but rather what he got people to do.
I don’t get why no one gets the significance of the “your cold” towards the end of the poem.
It’s also the only thing that links in with the final word of the poem, “gold”.
“Cold” is probably one of the most essential clues, yet no one else really seems to touch on it. I just found out I put this treasure, because of this video, and that’s the main thing that I picked up from hearing the poem only once!
Forest gave you the answer to the poem already. 'The thrill of the chase'. The thrill was your reward, to coax you out to explore the wilderness, in a legendary man's footsteps. That's just a theory. You may disprove me below. And Btw, i'm going for that Forest figurine, selling it for a dollar after I find it.

"Where a 79 year old man could carry out bury a 45 pound treasure chest."
Besides the poem, which someone has evidently deciphered, that was the most important clue leading them to the treasure.
A clue that many people have CLEARLY overlooked lol which is why an estimated four people have died in the attempt. There was never any reason whatsoever to go too far off the beaten path.
Or spelunk through caverns and over cliffs, putting lives at risk when a little common sense is enough to realize it would only ever be hidden where an elderly man would be capable of safely accessing.
Edit; I'm glad somebody finally found it, it means the real treasure WASN'T just the friends we made along the way. 🤣
I wish they would tell us atleast where it was so we can finally know who was close

The lack of punctuation in your comment also made me sad.
"lack of punctuation" mfw he misses one comma
nice plot twist
The beginning of you piecing the clues together made sense to me. Everyone is hung up on 'Brown' being a bear or animal. I'm almost positive it isn't. Why is Brown capitalized? Also, Fenn hid it when he was 80 years old. He was able to make two trips to his car where it was parked to do so. Wherever it is, it isn't that far from a road, access road, or lot. If you need to climb a cliff or real steep terrain, you're wrong. I personally think this is much more of an intellectual exercise than a physical one. If it's out there, it will be found soon. Many people are involved and sooner or later on of their theories will be right.
A lot of people grossly underestimate what someone in their 70s/80s is capable of if they have a love for the outdoors. And the people that do are not outdoors-men themselves. I've met MANY hikers in the mountains well past retirement that would pace circles around my friends in their 20s and 30s...

I think when he's talking about blaze that he is referring to a mark made on a tree by cutting the bark so as to mark a route. - People do it to mark out a new path - "set an example by being the first to do something; pioneer."

I think the treasure is fake and here's why. He's concerned with his legacy, and no one is going to talk about him after the treasure is gone. It's also impossible to prove that its fake because to prove that its real you have to find it, but it could be fake or it could just have yet to be found.
Schrodingers treasure
Not to mention his book is called the thrill of the chase
You would think it would be rock and metal if it were in the chest. Or maybe it gives all the information to retrieve (left in a trust at some major law firm) if it is fragile. A few decades, even in a sheltered place would destroy things, not metal or rock, unless it is in a desert with low levels of humidity and weather.
The poem with the clues is phrased strange like hes just turned an old poem of his with huge influence from a poet he obviously immitated. Poem starts as i have gone before or something. That to me is from a poem he wrote before he intended to do a treasure hunt and is also probably similar to his influence. He wants a legacy. He said if found he wants something back from chest. Doesnt he check once a month if its really there? So just watch his house. Or bug his car. Or check the mileage daily. Or bug his house. Or all of the above. The fact that hes askong for something back makes me think he lying about the chest and is lying about owning the item to begin with.
And he'll never admit it's fake because someone already died trying to find it "lol".
Y’all sleeping on a 80 year old man to walk 10 miles in the mountains...

Too Far to Walk is 10 miles.

This is all fine and dandy but any enthusiast like Finn would know not to hide it anywhere in a national park...That would make it property of the national park system and illegal to remove.
See, that's what I thought too about him being an enthusiast, but read this story and for the tl;dr factor, scroll down to the paragraphs under the pics of the metal detectors and read what he said. www.today.com/news/yellowstone-treasure-hunters-run-problems-looking-buried-loot-2D79748263
I think the old school ideals of national parks is that everyone owns it, but the govt. maintains it. The parks and all their lands belong to everyone who pays taxes.
Keep schtum then!
There is national/state land and private land, people really can't wander around private land so it is on one of the other. You or someone you know can leave/forget something while camping, come back next year and retrieve it, as long as the government did not purchase the item the position rule applies.
Angela.. I checked out the link. Fenn just says the punishment of being banned from the park is too harsh.
Cliché as it is, the journey is its own reward. Speaking as someone who nearly didn't leave an operating table alive last Summer, we sometimes forget to notice the sheer simple splendor of the world around us and often fail to just stop in utter wonder. This point is illustrated perfectly at the end of this vid when our intrepid hunters put their quest on hold to look at the herds of animals and the land. It's even possible that they might have failed to see that singular rainbow if their heads were buried in maps. I was also struck by how many people were tackling this mystery with partners. Whether that is true of the other hunters out there or not, the journey is arguably better when you are not alone. Especially when you are not entirely certain of your destination. Perhaps part of the spirit of the hunt is that not only does the journey change ourselves, but also those who travel with us; strengthening the ties that bind us to our friends, our family, and perhaps even to all of humanity itself.
Thank you, Estelle and Zach for sharing your amazing experience with the world. It was very inspirational and something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Take care and good luck in your quest! :)
Thank you, snoop. :) Don't get me wrong. Every day is a struggle for me and I often fail to live up to the ideal. But again, tough times are like a forge in which we purify our minds and strengthen our relationships. Everything that isn't genuine is apt to fall away and burn leaving behind only what is really true, in the purest sense of the word. Now, while I'm certain that I don't have the market cornered on "The Great Struggle", I do know one thing: together we can pretty much get through anything that the universe can throw at us. And that's worth more than all the treasure in the world. Peace, buddy! :)
CybershamanX wow pat, that was beautiful
The true treasure to be found is just getting out and enjoying nature, especially Yellowstone National Park.
Can we not talk about the possibility of some random hiker finding the treasure without even knowing who Forrest Fenn is.. That would crush all these poor people's spirits lmao..
It is hidden very well, I found his sculpture depicted on page 95 with him holding the tombstone. The Army Helicopter pilot few him to his special place and he drew it on that page.
what if it's literally under the home of brown, like in the basement lol
pinkyluv310 That’s what I’m thinking.... The thrill is to get in there and take it! Lol
to get into the house of brown you have to follow in fens footsteps and become an adventurer and ranger, once a ranger you can live it. the real gold is the reward of fens legacy is the sence of adventure and fascination with the wild
this house doesn't survive 10k years
maybe inside the basement is a super advanced fallout shelter...
My last name’s Brown.....huh
Fenn is a old man you gotta be practical and go where an old man could go.
But the problem with that is he IS A FRICKIN TREASURE HuNTER! You think he found a falcon mummy from king tuts Tomb (which he did do) in a easy little stroll down a trail?! 🙄
@@Olivia-sb6ig I think he said it wouldn't be anywhere hazardous to get to. Anyone accidentally killing themself is therefore not on the right track.
they say it was found like a week ago
Already found or retrieved by Fenn himself. Location was right next to Chalk Creek near St. Elmo, Colorado. Fenn was elderly so he wasn't going to hike into a difficult remote location. He chose Chalk Creek possibly because he already had been there a number of times fly fishing. It's a straight shot up from his home in Santa Fe, not hard to get to. He makes reference to chalk in his poem and he's also seen in a photo next to an old gravestone and there is a graveyard near where the treasure is buried. The House of Brown is a historical landmark in St. Elmo about 200 feet from the treasure. He makes reference to no paddle and Chalk creek is very rocky and not the kind of creek anyone could traverse in a canoe, etc. There's also a hot springs right in that area "where warm waters end". He makes reference at one point in his bio to "national forests" and if you click on the campground near St. Elmo on Google maps, up pops an picture of a big sign that says "National Forest".
The hole where the box was buried has been found and it's clearly a perfectly rectangular hole exactly the size of the box Fenn described. There's also bark scattered around the hole that did not fall off the tree there and it appears to have been collected from somewhere else. Fenn makes reference to being "in the wood" and it's probable he was referring to the bark he used to cover the box.
We may never know who found it and it may well have been someone who was just in the area camping or fishing who stumbled on it and didn't even know the story surrounding it. It's possible Fenn himself changed his mind and went back and got it but my gut instinct is that isn't the case. It's also possible the person or people who dug it up just wanted to remain anonymous and may have feared some kind of legal dispute over ownership of the treasure so they never came forward and just sold the contents.
Yeah, that is actually a very good theory. However, the contents of that chest are probably quite famous and valuable, so I have to question how anyone could have sold it to any vendor, even the black market without ANYBODY noticing or talking about it. Hahahha maybe someone found and then reburied it because they found that it was impossible to sell it without anyone noticing it.
good theory..
That’s so interesting, who was it that discovered the hole?
[citation needed]
Dave Perry. Picture?
The place is beautiful. Maybe that's the treasure.
hrmnpsrffn oh hell no
hrmnpsrffn DIG UP THE WHOLE PLACE.
That’s one of the reasons why nobody is going to find the treasure.
stop that. people are looking at the ground instead of the scenery.
Coffee Visor haha
Well, looks like it has been finally discovered. I hope we get to see the chest and its contents one day.
Just in July 2018 I was right about a mile and a half away from where you were because I had visited Yellowstone and surrounding area can’t believe I didn’t know about this.
That was the best video VOX has ever produced in my opinion that was amazing. So well thought out and executed. Well done that was better than professional!
another Vox video where someone uses a phone while driving...
honestly though they're in yellowstone, where there are roads that go straight for miles and you won't see any cars at all.
Kyle, do you even have a drivers license?
he's not wrong though...
who cares
You're the type of guy who wears a life jacket in a kiddie pool aren't you?
I hit the subscribe button as well to follow your next mission and more. Like i say finders keepers to anyone that finds it.
Fen also said that of you follow the sequence of the poem correctly, the should only take 1 afternoon to complete hike. Took him 1 afternoon to complete the hike, drop off chest and walk back to his car, 1 afternoon! So of you follow the riddle correctly it should not be a million miles, and a 79 year old was able to do it
"It's definitely not in there!"
Forest Fenn: "The new record is now within 5 ft."
Is that true? Link?
It's a joke
Should put 4chan on the treasure hunt.
4chan would find it in about 24 minutes, 21 of them being arguing over who is gonna be the one gets it first
4chan
Four Chan
For Chan
For tian
Fortune
4chan was made to fine the fortune
I Just thought about this then immediately saw your comment.
We did it, reddit
Absolutely Brilliant... to create a treasure hunt that's getting people, family and friends outside to enjoy nature and personally witness the true beauty that is OUR country... just being there together, supporting each other, while on an adventure must be rewarding and memorable in it self truly priceless... God bless him and ALL that take up the hunt..!!
When we were in Wyoming I had a vision on my dream where the treasure was hidden. Very vivid I can still remember everything on my dream 3 clues on my dream. We will be back there again . That was a great trip 5 days was not enough to see all the beauties of Yellowstone and next time we will do a better plan and route.
If you had access to ground-penetrating radar tech you could find it within a matter of days, so long as you were in the 200 mile radius.
chipette Thanks. Going to walmart to buy one 😂
PackingMessyCans you might need several $100,000s though 😭
chipette The two million would pay it off though
also true. :)
Sorry, but this is not how ground penetrating radar (GPR) works. It will only image things in the ground (not on it or in a cave), and it has a resolution that ideally requires you to drag a GPR device across the ground in tracks of around 1 meter distance to properly image what's underneath. It will take you much, much longer to cover such a huge area.
Anyone else watching after Unsolved's ep?
DUH
Me
Just watched it
Hell yes!
Yeah
History was just made. Very elusive treasure hunt has just concluded. 6/6/20
“You want my treasure? You can have it! I have gathered everything I have in one place, now you just have to find it”
- Gol D. Roger
Ha
What I got from this video is that the American landscape is truly breathtaking! :)
right?!
Canadian landscape is much better then this yellowstone is nothing to the landscapes in Canada
Jagason chill....
It all looks like that too
What if someone already found it but didn't tell anyone?
RandomizedClips that’s the ultimate troll. People would go on for years to come searching
Best way to handle. Then sit back & laugh hysterically.
In an old interview he mentioned all the treasure was in the chest. Him or his people have to be contacted with a number in the chest to claim it all. Nobody's call that number.
The poem does say: "Just take the chest and go in peace." so that would be pretty funny.
Krazzy Panda212 you'd only have to pay taxes if you sold the items. The Gov is gonna come and audit your treasure lol. But if u make a sale then yea they are gonna want a cut. Unless u just sell it for cash low key.
He's not giving anything away. He wants to be remembered so he makes a riddle that is just vague enough that people think they can figure it out.
Treasure was found, it was under a tree in Fenn’s secret fishing spot, which had an abundance of brown trout, hence the clue, ‘under the home of brown’.
How does anyone know somebody came within 200 feet?
That's he really clue
Maybe they posted a video on it, or showed photos.
It could mean not somebody looking for it. Like it's within 200 feet of a place frequently traveled.
Emailing Fenn the clues and pics
He may have been keeping up with the posts on Reddit and Facebook, looking at the pictures from everyone's journey. And there he found a picture from someone who was within 200 feet from it.
During one of his interviews he mentioned how people would e-mail him and describe where they had been. Several people were within 200' . Others have been within 500'. How many people were there is not clear...What interests me is how he knows with such certainty that no one has discovered/ recovered the trove.
Yellowstone is so beautiful i want to go
Jarid Gaming I wannt to go so bad,if I ever went I feel like I’d never come back
Jarid Gaming I’ve spent 2 summers up there with the usgs. It’s amazing you have to go there’s no place like it
Where Are you from? America?
I need to go for a hunt again ♥
that shot with the grazing bison and rainbow in the background is just stunning
4chan would find it in a week
GeorgeRen suuuuuure. And Reddit could compose the symphony memorializing their achievement
Do not underestimate 4chan. Weaponized autism, i mean they have accomplished scary feats.
Amatthew123 “weaponized autism” 😂😂
Honestly they need to
