- How to make your car louder for FREE! Simple easy mod to make your cars exhaust louder. Works with any car having a Valved Exhaust system. First little mod to the B9 S4 and made a bigger difference than expected! The Audi S4 only opens the valves in dynamic mode and under certain RPMs and at a certain speed. This does not only apply to the Audi S4 but to almost all cars that come with a valved exhaust from the factory.
In the video we show the Audi S4 driving with the valves plugged in and at the end we show the car driving with the valves unplugged. There is no drone when unplugging the valves and it maintains a deep throaty sound when inside the cabin of the Audi S4.
Big plans are in store for the B9 Audi S4 and subscribe for more awesome content.
2019 Audi B9 S4 is otherwise stock with major upgrades on the way. This mod works with the B9 S5 as well.

Hope you guys enjoyed the “phree” mod. Full exhaust system has been ordered and on the way. As always thanks again for watching 💯
Thanks bro! Dope little mod! Overall better sounding but definitely louder at lower speeds
I just did this to my S4 B9 and it sounds awesome…For now I will enjoy that till I go for full exhaust system.
Deepyier lmaoooo that was funny. Good video bro. Sick car too. Jelly of the ZF trans 💪 🔥
ALLBLAC EVERYTHING I know hahah 😂, thanks! I was unsure about the ZF at first but it’s such a smooth transmission compared to a dual clutch
Lovely Car man 🙏🏻
Fire! Keep these vids coming
Thanks my man!
Nice video! I’m now going to have to go see how this sounds with my downpipe!
It's Pronounced VA-Guh definitely curious on this too!
With the MK4 R32 it was a vacuum hose that would open our OE exhaust valve so we'd pinch it and remove it.
Thx for info in this video. I’m going to do the same thing to my C7.5 S6.
can you do this on c7.5 A6
Thanks for sharing, cool video, nicely explained and really good quality. Will try this with my s5 b9 now :D
How did it go? Affect anytbing?
@@nkc_nickynails1826 Went great, 100% worth it. I spent 70€ to get the counter part for the plug (APR tuning site) to protect it and also to prevent errors being written to the system (can cause issues). I have loved the sound of the s5 single turbo for the deeper sound even stock but in lower speeds the flaps always close unless you are standing/going over 50 or 60 (kmh).. and this avoids this. It also makes the sound over all a touch more raw in a very satisfying and sexy way. I would say this adds exactly that 1% I was missing in the car, because I didn't want an over the top sound but just a little bit more. If you are in germany it's also great because you can easily revert it for the mandatory inspections or if police happen to catch you with it.
@@BliteOG can u send me the link?
Good mod! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man!
I just got me an 18 S4 B9 and i love the popping and exhaust note in dynamic mode. If i did this, I just hope it wouldn't void any warranty (litterally got the car a week ago). I think an actual custom exhaust job would though and I'd like to. Lol maybe I'll just try this 🤔
Love the red interior on Audi’s
It would be sick if you also did a dual resonator delete as well
That intro was so slickk
Joseph Young thanks bro 🙏
Nice vid. Just got an S4 and I’m local to Hoffman Estates. Hope to see your car around!
Definitely! Congratulations on the S4, it’s an amazing car 🔥
Il?
Getting S5 tomorrow & in Barrington. Perhaps w can cruise sometime
Got my s5 btw. Black s5 sportback in Barrington area
would it not be better to fit a switch to this so you can at least close again if you want to ?
im watching more. i dont hate your face anymore😂
Nice man. Thanks for the video. Out of interest, did unplugging the valve control connection throw up any warnings on the dash?
I recently bought a B8.5 RS4 in the UK, specifically without the sports exhaust package, because I have a straight piped, super non resonated Milltek system on order (thanks Covid).
The car sounds nice at the moment, but it's annoying when I want it have it in D but still maintain the exhaust note of it's S mode.
Zero codes thrown 👍
do you know if this works for the B8.5 S5 as well?
I have the same glacier white B9S4 with magma red interior! What a beautiful car.. I'm gonna try the same tomorrow - any mechanical issues you've had so far since you unplugged them?
허영호 no issues, no codes. The exhaust is definitely better sounding!
If you unplug when it's parked and turned off then there closed with no power to them.. so this would have not made any difference?? They would be closed all the time now
I have a 2015 s4, can I do this on mine as well?
does this make the check engine light act up?
Here for the tank
You already know
Nice video bro. Could u open the valves in the individual mod and keep them open without unplugging the valves ?
They’ll still be closed until you reached a certain speed and rev. Only way to get the valves open on start up and low speeds is to unplug them
Driven by Boost but I only see one valve on my Audi s5. Do I just unplug this one ?
@@princcce7993 did u end up unplugging this? I only see one on my 2023. Did it work?
Don’t you have to make sure somehow that those valves are open before unplugging the connectors?
nice one bro. will it work on my 2018 s5. there wont be engine light on after unplugging it ? do you need a certain way to make sure the valve in its open position when you do it ? thanks in advance
No check engine light, once unplugged start it up and if it’s not open drive it around for a bit and it will open up for you 👍
@@drivenbyboost once it open it will stay open ?
@@mikeusa correct 👍
There is a "bug" with the drive mode that even if you've set it to be Dynamic, the valves will close next time you start your car and then you need to reach the required speed before they open again.
I showed this to my Audi foreman and he said this "issue" has been around for a long time.
What works for me is setting the exhaust to Dynamic in the Individual settings. When you start the car, immediately reselect "Individual". You'll immediately hear the valves click and open and the exhaust will sound louder (granted interior is getting a bit of sound from Sound Aktor).
For anyone that hasn't unplugged the valves yet, try this and change it when your car is at idle (not cold start rpm) so you can hear the difference. It is annoying to have to do this every time but you get good at it if you use the hotkey on the steering whell to engage your drive mode select.
That happens to me too. I have to change it back to comfort mode before I switch off the engine and change to dynamic after I start the engine next time.
@@mikenolide8860 Yeah I was doing that before but all you need to do is reselect Dynamic and it'll work. Same goes for Individual if you've set exhaust to be dynamic.
Downpipes.. 👍
Hopefully soon 🙏
Have you ever scanned your car with OBDeleven or other since doing this mod? I have my valves unplugged and get the following silent codes "P049F00 - Exhaust Pressure Control Valve B" and "P047500 - Exhaust Pressure Control Valve A". No check engine or other warning lights, but these codes are written in the background per OBDeleven... I wonder if this causes any other issues such as the RS3 does with a slight loss of power based on reduced back-pressure monitoring and control with the valves. Any ideas from your side?
I believe it was confirmed for the rs3 on power loss but no power loss was found for the B9 platform
what are those ramps please, see if I can get them in uk
Rhino ramps
I went to go dyno the car and I have a muffler delete done, so no valves.. The guy said that the car is showing up as "limp mode" on the dyno. It will produce less whp, approx 20ish whp. And around 30ish less wtq
are you aware of any other downside to no valves beside power loss, i recently unplugged mine because of an exhaust rattle
@@alexnicotera3549 not really
You'll have a code "exhaust pressure valve a and b" can't clear it unless you get the apr valve Plugs.
If you have valve rattle just take the spring out and check where the contact patch is between the valve and spring.. Spring will have 2 markings (left and right) put a small piece of duct tape there (1 loop) and you'll be good
Hey man, I noticed my right side valve isn't opening when I switch to dynamic mode while in park. So do they open automatically when driving eventhough I'm in dymaic mode and ehxuast sound is also in dynamic?
I'd like to know myself!? Did u find out? I just put on the ECS cat back and it's does the same thing
Another question did you cover the connection on the actual exhaust side ?
Yeah wrapped em both with electrical tape
And it haven’t melted from the heat?
I did this on my B9 S5 SB and honestly couldn’t tell a difference besides idle. In dynamic the valves open up after very slight throttle. Not sure why they stay open first few seconds after a cold start then close, but they open up again after minimal throttle input.
Pain in the ass to get them unplugged and covered properly; at least on the S5, just ended up plugging them back in.
Nice vid but for anyone looking to make their car louder I think you need to look at other things.
I found it got slightly louder after an hour or so of driving. Yes this isn’t a full exhaust system change and I agree with you. If you’re looking to make your car a lot louder a muffler delete or a aftermarket exhaust is the option
@@drivenbyboost Don’t get me wrong it definitely does something, just wasn’t what I was expecting. Signed - guy who’s worried about his warranty lol.
@@bryan7825 having peace of mind is better than any mod you can do imo 👍
@@bryan7825 When you unplug the valves this most likely is throwing a code. It would be a silent code that does not appear on the dash. This probably won`t void a warranty or anything but it might make the car run in a lower power setting. There was been documented cases of the RS3 when unplugged it loses power. We don`t know if this is the case with the S4 though, probably not worth the hassle IMO.
Do you just unplug them or do you have to make sure they are open first?
Do you happen to know if that valve is on the B8 s4?
I also wanna know if this works on the B8 s4
I have a B9S4 as well, and get it to make some pops on downshifts (occasionally), but how are you making it pop at 5:16, 5:20? I’ve tried to find a range to let off, but can’t find it.
I had it in dynamic and manual and let off the throttle at around 4k and it pops pretty good. Much much more noticeable after the valve mod. Usually can get it to pop all time when letting off the throttle at hard to medium acceleration
Driven by Boost nice, thanks for the response. I can always get the nice pops in park or neutral in that 3-4K rev range. I’ll have to try this later tonight lol.
Youngish C definitely, the pops are way louder from the rear and it’s hard to hear in the cabin since Audi did such a good job with noise insulation lol
Driven by Boost yeah ikr. Sounds much nicer on the outside. I’m guessing you try and just keep it around 4 K then?
Youngish C yeah pretty much, these cars make all the power early in the powerband which is awesome
There’s a mode in audis that you can keep the engine in normal mode and open the valves
What exactly is the point of these valves to begin with?
Is this legal in Canada?
How did you get the clips to loosen up? I just spent a hour trying this but the clips aren't moving at all, even with tools and force
Driver side popped off very easy and the passenger side took some finessing with the tab, press down and pull. Use a mirror or front camera on the phone to help you see, hope this helps
@@drivenbyboost my issue is the tabs don't push down, it's like they are stuck in place, I've tried some tools too but they don't budge, you didn't have any issue like that? Im guessing there is dirt or something under the tabs, Seems like a very fast tweak if the tabs work lol
Yeah took me a couple minutes. Pressed the tabs in and pulled and it came right out
@@awhs5435 use wd-40
@@awhs5435 I know its been a year but I just did this on an s5. My "buttons" were actually these little tabs that are pretty like sliders. Just get them to slide out and then you can pull them right out.
I wish they just had a button to open or close the valves...that would be so much easier lol
the break-in is actually 3000km or 1900miles on these...
Lets hope this car doesn't behave like the RS3 when removing the electric muffler control (loses power).
I don't think anyone has answered/tested this on the S4. I still have mine plugged in. I have been thinking about unplugging them for like a year lol.
how much power did the rs3 lose when doing this?
Will this work on a b8
As long as it has valves it should work 👍
Just get a manual s4 b8.5 like me lol.. good stuff tho
How about in Individual mode?
Valves still act the same as if car was in dynamic if you set that as the function
Would this work on a 2019 A5 sport back?
I would imagine so, as long as the exhausts are valved it should work
Driven by Boost If you don’t mind me asking what year is this vehicle in the video
Joseph Farhadian it’s a 2019 as well
Driven by Boost thank you
A5s have no exhaust valve
Does it cause a CEL?
Nope 👍
Does this work on a 2018 Audi A4
As long as it has a valved exhaust it should 👍, you can check to see underneath
@@drivenbyboost Doesn't the 18 s4 have two clips on the driver side on one on the pass side?
Can I do this on my A5 quattro V6??
J. Roush yeah definitely it the exhaust has valves it should work 👍
Driven by Boost I would go about it same way u did? I’m not sure where mine would be.
the A5 doesnt have the valve
Can anyone tell me the down side to doing this mod?
Can potentially throw a code. Go into limp mode if you romp on it. You can buy plugs that have prongs that "trick" the ECU into thinking the valves are working properly though. A difference in engine back pressure could still cause issues with ECU though. Audi's are like computers at this point.
Is this a diesel or petrol??
Nvm it’s a petrol
Did this throw any engine codes?
No codes 👍
@@drivenbyboost awesome thank you
APR Stage I B9 S4 on E85 480 HP with 549 FT-LBS of torque
Woah awesome numbers for a stage 1 tune!
At the crank.
will this work on an audi a5?
If it has valves than it should
Hey did it work
On the a5
What about disabling it with OBDELEVEN?
not possible so far.
The was my thought. Can’t imagine it’s not possible.
No CEL?
Son what Nope
Driven by Boost awesome... thanks, bro.
Son what no problem 👍
11.2 mpg rip my friend
i get 26mpg average on my b9.5 stock and i drive like i should w a s4
Did this to my 18 s4 itook it out on a drive and the whole car did a big jolt and now I have no boost and no torque now I have to see what damage I caused by trying to save a buck and
hear some better sound totally not worth it guys! Don’t do it!
did you ever have an update on this?
Aye mane, go get you a BMW M340i
Those are pretty sweet cars!
Nice Jetta lol jk
Ty Mac haha it’s actually a Passat!
This is the most Stupid "Mod" Ive ever seen. And how do you plan to stop dirt going into the plug wire LOL
Your that stupid that you can't figure it out yourself? :D
You cap it You moran
Ugh! Everything was fine till he said Awdi, you own one, don’t sound like a douche. It’s AUdi, like I’m outtie
Never do this... he unplug the L.sonda that is inside of the exhaust... It makes you louder but the sobda regulates the gases and stuff so that your engine runs correctly. If you do that in some other car you might experience insane power loss, fuel consumption increase and so on.. You might think that exhausts only remove gasses but they are essential for normal engine work
You sound like a babboon - wtf is L.Sonda...wtf is sobda besides a health condition - please go home
Will a full aftermarket exhaust with no valves be just the same?
this is the guy that tells you to not fight in the school and to tell the dean instead lmao. heres a tip. go get a girlfriend
