  • Patented in 1921, this Polar Cub six inch desk fan manufactured by A.G. Gilbert. , has the solid brass fan that was only available the first few years of manufacture. They switched to a brass painted fan after a few years. The base is cast iron. The motor is almost identical to erector set motors, which were manufactured by the same company.
This restoration has some media blasting, welding, fabrication, CNC engraving, lacquering, and some electrical work.

The whole reason I started watching these types of videos was because I like old fans. I didn’t wanna spend $1000 for a fan that barely works when I can spend a fraction, or nothing, and just restore it myself. Now I’m obsessed with this stuff and would kill to have a workshop filled with every tool imaginable.

Thank you for using a braided electric cord. I see so many restorations done but they replace the original braided cord with a non-braided one.

I didn't realise how small this fan was, until you picked it up. What a little gem it turned out to be. I like the guard you fabricated. It certainly looks the part.

I have already imagined how someone repairs a Chinese fan in 100 years. Therefore, I never tire of repeating - the most reliable technique is the one where there are no plastic parts at all. This is especially true for modern kitchen appliances. Professional kitchen appliances only made of metal, no plastic.

This is a fine & beautiful restoration. It is fascinating to see what splendid products were made in the USA one hundred years ago.

Beautiful work. My Mechanics level fussbudgetry. And that is a good thing. The care taken with the brush caps, fabricating the cage and meticulously shaping the badge edges... delicious to watch.

Very nicely done. Love these little fans, they move so much air surprisingly. Nice you gave its name back to finish the cage.

This was such a joy to watch, especially making the blade cover from scratch and the name plate. Beautiful job on the end result.

You need to find some green felt goes on bottom of stand ,to keep from scratching the table and protects the wiring.

Great work, those small antique fans with the metal blades can push quite a bit of air and will last a long time if properly cared for, I love how you fabricated the guard yourself!
