    I think the idea of the physical release for online games is so parents/grandparents have something other than a piece of cardboard with a code printed on it to give their kids. For example, I don't know if an elderly grandparent would understand how a download code for a game works, but if there's a physical game case next to all the other game cases, the grandparent will understand it's the complete "thing" you need to play the game.
    When I was a kid, my parents got my brother a preorder of Pokemon Moon for his birthday and the Gamestop employee gave her one of their extra advertisement boxes for the game for her to put the receipt in.

    Great video, if we summarise everything:
    Pros:
    + digital sales are great for small indie companies, it means more games available for players
    + it is very easy and convenient
    Cons
    - for some stupid reason (aka greed) digital downloads are usually more expensive than physical ones.
    - server support will eventually end and you will lose your access to your downloads forever, so technically you do not own the game.
    - downloading big games can take hours to finish depending on server speed
    - refunds are very hard to get (except steam)
    - you cannot give your games to others or resell them
    So, yeah, physical is still much better

      Worse part, it's entirely triple a developers refusing to minimize the size of their games files. I can fit over 40 indie games on my switch, but oh, the Xbox can't fit call of duty and the next one? NOT EVEN JUST A COMPETITOR, TWO GAMES THEY MADE BACK TO BACK? it's rediclous and half the reason I've given up on them. They'd rather attempt a hostage negotiation to make sure you're not playing a game that competes with them through sheer file space rather than through quality. It's disgraceful to think I ever spent money on them if they treat me and my file space as the enemy

    • @pg28
      @pg28 Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@shadowsnake5133its not that they want huge file sizes. Its that games just get bigger and bigger as devs get more and more skilled. While some projects (FNAF SB. Cyberpunk. Etc) are corner cut to get it out by the time it needs to be. Those are less common than youd thing. They dont treat your file size like the enemy. They just are making bigger games. Which can be annoying. But it also means that the game usually has alot of detail. And that usually means its a good game. With some admittedly annoying exceptions

I cherish my time with it and the fact that I still have yet to play a service that feels as fluid as that was, makes me sad but hopeful for the future of Cloud gaming. Digital management is your next problem.
      Let say 10/15 years from now, you want to play a specific game on that console. The online store is close and that game is exclusive on a limited time frame. Ex Simpson and Xmen arcade on 360/ps3. Can you play it or purchase it? You can try it and those games have been delisted due to Rights.

    • @DerTendou
      @DerTendou Před 10 měsíci

      @@tr1bes delisting usually doesn't affect your purchases. I have some delisted games (The Lost Child, God Wars, Demon Gaze, Fifa18) and I can redownload them with no problem. The only exception is P.T. but it was a free demo and not a purchase anyway. As long as the servers are running there shouldn't be a problem and even about that I'm not really worried. I buy games all the time and if I really lose access some day I probably don't care that much. I expect servers for a system to run at least 20 years, if not longer. I mean I can still redownload all my Wii PSP and DSi digital games even though the shops are closed for years.
      But I agree that it is a major disadvantage that you can't buy delisted games anymore but for that I still have my disc drive so I'm not missing out unless the game is digital only but like I said, I buy games all the time and I can live with not getting every game in the world.

    Nothing wrong with going all digital these days. You never receive the full game buying a disc these days anyway and, in the end, just acts as proof of purchase for loading the game up which most if not all, was downloaded in an update. The PROBLEM is not having older games available to purchase if playing old games is what you're into. I mainly just play the new stuff and if you paid for a game online, whether they keep or remove it from their digital store, you still own it and can re-download at any time. I own some 550+ games on the switch digitally and not a problem with any of them. As far as cloud gaming goes, yeah, we're nowhere close to that yet.
