    It's Christmas time
There's no need to be afraid
    At Christmas time
We let in light and we banish shade
    [Boy George]
And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
    At Christmas time
    [George Michael]
    But say a prayer
    Pray for the other ones
    At Christmas time it's hard
    [Simon LeBon (Duran Duran)]
    But when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
    [Sting]
    Where the only water flowing
Is the bitter sting of tears
    [Bono & Sting]
And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom
    [Bono]
Well tonight thank God it's them
    Instead of you
    [Boy George & Others]
And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life(Oooh)
    Where nothing ever grows
    No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmas time at all?
    [Marilyn & Glenn Gregory]
    Here's to you
    [Paul Young]
    Raise a glass for everyone

You need to watch the making of this video. Boy George was the last one to arrive at 6PM. His first take sounded like Rod Stewart real gravely then someone ran across the street to the liquor store and brought him a bottle of brandy. You see him take a couple of swigs right out of the bottle then does take two and that was good enough ! They only had the studio for 24 hours two takes is all anybody got. Listen closely I agree it was a amazing second take but in the making of video it was not fully produced and mixed in with all the other tracks. Clear and smooth were added during final production and covered in the mix .

They used his first and only take.

Phil Collins with his legendary passionate drumming skills, George Micheal, Sting, Boy George, Bob Geldolf, and many more, sad to see that we're slowly losing them one by one, but lets all be grateful. Then again not all of today’s music is bad necessarily but it’d be nice if not everything the past had to offer was completely left out of new songs, y’all get what I mean? Lol sorry for the long paragraph this thought just came to me and given the thread is talking about I figured I’d share.

I read a lot of posts from blacks complaining that the lyrics are condescending and downright racist. What they don't realize is that when they sing "Do they know it's Christmas?" and "Let them know it's Christmas" they're not talking to the people who are in Africa. They are reminding the Western people that have the means to help that it's Christmas time and they should think of giving, not just receiving

I think this song is where Boy George's rivalry started with George Michael, at least in BG's mind .... they pit the two Georges against each other by putting them one after another ...
BG wins this round in this song but GM had a bigger career than BG ....
I would say they were about equally talented (listen to BG's Martyr Mantras album, those who don't think BG is not as talented as GM) ....

Agreed and well expressed. One thing was their own art but another what they contributed to. I don't care much for these singers solo work , commercial and derivative in my opinion. Their performance here though astonishing and inspiring. One could read my comment above and challenge my description of these once widely celebrated artists as commercial and derivative and accuse me of being dismissive but this cannot be argued against me when I also here admit my absolute delight for their inspired performances on this track. It just goes to show that even if one weren't to like an artist's work, it doesn't mean that one couldn't enjoy the true talent and ability of that artist in one way or another eventually. I can honestly say that I enjoy zero tracks from George Micheal whether on his own albums or wham before that. Still though, and despite all, I love his singing on this track and respect his ability and thus name as a legitimate artist but solely because of how much I've enjoyed his contribution to this track. Same can be said for boy George, although culture clubs chameleon was one I always enjoyed but more so for the harmonica and guitar stuff rather than the honestly quite flat sung melody line
