  • Hey guys, in this video we look at the service and maintenance cost of my 2010 Skoda Laura.
    Part 2: • Should you buy a used ...
As mentioned before, I bought this car a little over a year ago and have been enjoying the premium-ness of a Skoda since then. The performance, especially after the tune is awesome.
However, as with all used cars, there were quite a bit of expenses, which I have documented here. I hope this video will be useful to you guys, especially if you, or your friends are planning to buy a used Skoda.

Do note, that this won't be the case always. It's possible to find very good cars, that may not have these issues...
Also, I wanted my car to be perfect, hence the brakes and the wheel bearings. But, costs will be higher, as this belonged to the premium sedan segment, when new.

I am unsure of how reliable the newer vehicles are or how good the servicing of VWAG has improved. But one thing which always keeps me away from VWAG cars is their poor servicing and expensive AS&S. Being a Hyundai owner, I am really satisfied with how the service has been. Looking forward to a change sometime after 2 years and I was convinced with the Next Gen Tucson. But as you know, the heart always calls for a sedan which handles like a charm at high speeds. Would be great if you could shed some light on the service experience of newer Skoda cars. Cheers

Hi. Yes, I had the same apprehensions as you, especially when I bought a used Skoda.
Previously had an Esteem, and a Santro AT, which was replaced by a City AT and Ikon respectively.
If you buy a used Skoda, then you need to have an independent garage to take care of minor stuff and go to Skoda service only for safety critical components.
That being said, Skoda has really improved over the years and service as such should not be an issue on newer cars.
From your price bracket, I assume you are waiting for the new Octavia mk4 and I think its a great option.

Hi, that's what I said in the video, buying a used car for 5.5L (originally worth 15L+), is much better than buying a new small car for 5.5L. Safety, performance, curb appeal, etc., is all better in a premium used car, compared to a cheaper new car.

    • @Yogi_9869
      @Yogi_9869 Před 3 lety

It all depends many factors like the perspective of the buyer, whether he wants a new car within his budget or a used car in that budget, maintenance cost, fuel economy, and 10 year car will have frequent breakdowns vis a vis a new car, resale value, parking space, maneuvering a big car in traffic, availability of spare parts, etc. In delhi, i suppose cars more than 15 years old are banned.
Also, as in this video had that car probably regularly serviced and maintained by the previous owner and driven properly the next owner wouldn't have to had face such frequent repair issues.
I myself had driven a Skoda superb for a few days, and ever since I have been in love with it and wanted to buy a used Skoda Superb or Octavia, but like in this video when I have seen so much expensive maintenance cost for just casual replacement parts like oil, disk brakes, etc and frequent repairs, then it won't be affordable for a middle class person.
Surely once you sit in a premium sedan, the comfort, safety, features, it offers etc. vis a vis a entry level car offers cannot be described in words but only experienced.
Or else probably i would take a middle ground something like a 5 year old Honda city..
But, still a kind of review i been looking for for the past 3 year's.
      Subscribed.
Plz do similar kind of reviews.

I am planning to buy a 2012 laura 2.0 TDI manual. 1. How much would a Stage 1 remap cost? Which brand of remap would you suggest? 2. Would you recommend a friendly neighbourhood mechanic or Skoda service in Bengaluru (I know you are from chennai but I guess Tafe Access is both in Chennai and bengaluru) Glad to visit your video. Hi, thanks for the support. For remap details like cost and performance, you can check out this video czcams.com/video/OR_-8OQFvP0/video.html
Regarding service, heard Skoda opened a new service station /dealership, so it should be good.
Am independent garage should also be capable enough (haven't used TA in person, so can't comment)
Regarding the 2.0 tdi manual, that's the best variant in my opinion. All the best!

      Hi bro, thank you.
Yeti is a very solid car, but parts are a bit more pricey than Laura (tho they both use similar parts)
The price seems decent for a 4x4 elegance model, however, go for it only if you require a 4x4, as mileage will be lower and maintenance costs will be higher.
Anyhow, pls get the car inspected and chk service history also.

Verify the mileage and condition. Best is to take a trusted mechanic to check the condition. You can use this video to bargain a better price, if things are worn out/need replacing.

      @JRSCars  Před 3 lety +3

Yep, the Yeti is a very underrated car in India, it was ahead of its time and at that price, didn't find a lot of buyers.
To my knowledge, its a great car and maintenance should be little higher than Laura, but less than Superb.
Do check the AC (notorious in all Skoda's) and the 4x4 drive train as parts can be expensive.
Sometimes even Skoda mechanics may not check things like differential fluid, etc., (Yeti 4x4 was the only 4x4 sold by Skoda, apart from Superb 4x4 which had a very limited run)

If everything is perfect, between 3L to 4L is ball park number
Depending on AT or MT, last service, timing belt, clutch, AC, etc.,
If its going to be your only car, don't buy it. If you are looking at a second car, and can afford upto 1L extra in repairs, then go for it

Hey man. Check for proper service records.
If you can afford the maintenance and if it is not your only car, go for it no question.
If it is going to be your only car, then get it throughly checked by a professional, and always keep 1.5L handy to take care of any maintenance it might need.

My sister owns Rapid and ran about 2 lakh kilometres, and the service cost is cheaper than the swift comparatively in long term.
And I was having used Volkswagen vento for 3 years, and the maintenance was not expensive.
The main problem is by the used car dealers, who spread the gossips to buy the used cars at low prices, and also mechanics spread the rumours because they don't know how to service/ repair other companies cars except maruti and Hyundai.

    • @JRSCars

It largely depends on how the first owner takes care of the car.
Check my review on my Honda City, which we bought new, it had absolutely no issues.
Both the Laura and Ikon were purchased second hand, hence the repairs.
