Here's my A Frame I built with my friends in 2018-2019! It's a weekend getaway with a separate outhouse (before everyone asks). It's mega cozy and has served as a great spot to glamp at this past spring and summer! There are a series of videos with each step broken down, for anyone interested!
Special thanks to Martin Thornell, Rich Turner, Captain Tom, Eric Young, Sacha Roy and especially Richard Scott! Couldn't have done it without you all!

Y'all making fun of that guy. I really admire him for getting out there and doing what the rest of us are dreaming about.
Richard is amazing!
Just WOOOOW! SO LOVELY! So love this! I think. . I'll do this on my own...
Marilyn Fletcher amazing! stoked to see what you come up with! you’ll have a blast!
@@AndrewSzeto Sure! 😂Seriously, I am good at #doityourself...you think, I could do this in my garden? Just to watch this video? I'm at the moment single. And also relatives are busy at work, nobody would help me, too much work in this, lol...you think, I could start it, just watching your video? I could always attend profs in the end, if it's too hard to do...great channel! 👍
Marilyn Fletcher haha what part of the world do you live in and does a structure like this make sense for you too?! very important to ask yourself before you embark on it. i’d also advise you to build bigger! it’s a fun little shack, but bigger would be better!
From the start, Ryan was very helpful and is continuing to be helpful about his czcams.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans . Also, they have answered all the questions I have asked & I got outstanding support from his My Shed Plans full package.
it truly blows my mind that some people have the knowledge to do these sorts of projects from scratch. immense respect
me too! i got a lot of help from my friend richard (older chap), i should be able to approach new builds these days! soo stoked! youtube is where it's at haha
No wonder people have waited so long for the last Game of Thrones book, George RR Martin out here building houses
Jordan Hance hahaha richard is the man! thanks for checking this out
@@AndrewSzeto ⁴
Jordan Hance
He was playing Minecraft and realized he could afford to do the live action version...
So this is what George R R Martin has been up to instead of writing....
mr p haha totally. richard is the best!
mr p lmaooo
But he would never have finished the construction...
Xation still kind of tinkering away at it and mostly open concept. i camp out at it mostly and there’s an additional structure that’s the bathroom. there are a few additional episodes on that on my channel ✌🏼
Well you took the comment right out of my mouth.
You boys dont play, that thing is built for strength. And sealed like, well I'd be scared to fart in there if a candle was burning!
haha thanks! It was mad fun! there are still some issues (as seen below with some of the comments), but it was my first build and kind of an experiment, so still a ton to learn for the next time!
@MAN WOLF yeooow thanks a ton man wolf! haha
Are there videos of it finished. I’m addicted to the project now. Loved it!!!
@Narf problem is, home depot dont stock enough lumber to find a semi straight 2 by anything! Just my experiance. Prolly tell ya diff. If they were paying tho.
Andrew Szeto
Don’t worry about what the people sitting on their couches say! Those people are idiots... building codes are designed to make some people rich while keeping others poor, as long as everything overlaps it will be water tight and air tight; I am betting that you won’t find/have any issues for a decade... which is a lot better than any “new construction house built to code” that I have ever lived in....
There are some really smart little tricks in making the build easier for “old men” or a single person to build. The main roof trusses and stuff like that. Well done.
Magyarorszagban hol lehet kapni
With that plumbers crack there should have been indoor plumbing!
The House that Crack Built : P
these buttcrack comments memes are cracking me up lol ahhahahahhahh :)
I am not in the construction industry nor am I a carpenter, I wanted a good guide to help with small projects such as small sheds and some remodeling around the house. So there’s a magic which is Shed Plan [ visit here *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. This Shed Plan covers all my instructions from top to bottom in a step by step manner.
Wherever you're from, you're lucky. It's called a Builder's Crack in Britain...
I did see a crack by your foundation...lol
Vincent C haha i hear ya!
One day I would like a crack near my foundation somewhere in the middle of the woods.
Hahahahah
@@AndrewSzeto no pipes involved with that crack i hope
overbuilt automotive 🤣🤣
That was a cool build but I would have liked to seen more of the finished product. ..I watched the whole video with anticipation of the final result only to be disappointed. ..could you please do a short video showing us the finished little house please. ..ty....very sweet A-frame
baggerchic forever will do! been working on my composting toilet and getting a working bathroom first haha. will circle back on that!
Andrew Szeto we understand, priorities 😂
Andrew Szeto please do one for the composting toilet too !!
I built my house alone with my boyfriend! I am a doctor in civil engineering!
Check the part 1 of the construction process of a passive wooden house czcams.com/video/BvVDBm-2Bqg/video.html and tell me what you think 😊
I love this little house. It’s like something from a children’s book story.......in a clearing, in the woods, there was a cottage. The climbing wall also just adds another dimension to it. Gorgeous.
Laurel Reef thank you soo sooo much laurel! haha my little fantasy for sure! it’s tiny, but it’s mine! haha
Oh dude, you absolutely deserve to be proud of this little house. If it were my little house I’d sit in that lofty area, wrapped up in blankets, with a cosy hot chocolate and just sit watching the snow fall for hours....dreaming of what I’d do if a if a giant bear came along peeping through the windows 😂 if there are any where you live.
This is so charming, I will be smiling all day from watching. Everyone looks so happy. All different ages, clearly all friends. The end result looks enchanted. You are a lucky man. Thank you for sharing!😊
Looks extra well built. Anyone should be envious.
thanks a bunch joe! it's been great!
I love it. I wish they would bring back wood shop into the high-schools. This is a good trade. It would definitely get these kids out of their phones. Nice work.
Leticia Combs 100% soo stoked on everything
Dan C. They don't have any type of life skill classes. They took out mechanics, cooking, driving and sewing.
missy m That's awesome. Wish we could bring it back in California.
@@leticiacombs6877 it's a tricky one... you kind of have to learn it all after school...
@@dnthrx i didn't have any shop unfortunately. learning as an adult and having a hell of a time!
I have watched this video several times over the past year and I always find myself watching the entire thing. You all did a great job.
Red, this means sooo much! Thanks you! truly!
This is amazing. I would love to build something like this if I had the skills. Always loved crafting things with my hands but always as more of a hobby. Now I wish I knew how to build things so I wouldn't have to pay others to do it.
FYI never run flashing tape back into your window/door openings. If water ever gets behind the siding it channels in right into the house behind the window nailing flange. Hang window/door and tape over the nailing flash. I've replace a lot of rotten boards from doing the way he did in the video.
15 years of building experience
sound good! will know better for next time!
Good call. Also, I'd add sill pans. Cheap insurance. The more defensive layers we add against water, the better.
Some talent on that build, impressive.
Thanks soo much! It was a blast!
This is amazing. I love the shakes on the front. For the interior I would put edging on the panels for each wall if I wanted to leave it with exposed wood so the gaps wouldn't be too visible.
thanks a ton!
Love your cabin! Looks well built, comfy and warm. Thanks for sharing
Joan Kline heck ya it's pretty great! thanks soo much for checking this out ✌🏼💕
It's incredible how these men have the energy to build a whole cabin and here I am being tired right after I pull my chair to sit.
haha ya we got a little stoked and went for it!
I built a shed with these plans from Ryan [ Details Here?> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ] . The instructions were clear and easy to implement. Even a novice can be able to build fast using this plan. I'm happy I bought the plan. It also saved me much cost.
Amazing project! I'd love to see a follow up of the inside all furnished.
taking my sweet time with it haha it's soo damn small. i gotta get a decent futon in there. will look awesome!
Great video content! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - *WoodBlueprints. @@AndrewSzeto Ok so 2 years have passed where's the video of the interior, bruh?
@@22ergie the interiors at the end? also my instagram - @szetoszeto
@@AndrewSzeto OMG , YOU built this???!!! You are absolutely effing amazing!
Beautifully done....thank you so much for sharing.
Great project..... Amazing what a community of friends can achieve
Very cute build! I’m thinking “they are going to cook in that thing” due to all the insulation. My family has a very similar A-frame camp, 14’x16’ but the walls are just wide tongue-and-groove boards milled locally, no insulation. It’s got an old antique wood cookstove that has an oven and water heater, and the camp interior during Maine’s cold winters is so hot we have to open the windows to let cold air in or we’ll roast to death, LOL.
no way! haha i find the insulation works well! the stove is small, so having the insulation i find really keeps it cozy all night. thanks a ton for checking this out 🙏🏼
Looks great Andrew. Insulating the floor looks like that was a ton of work. It's those hidden details that make it great.
it was a TON of work haha (crushed it in a full day), but it's gotta be done! things went after that!
Rather than cut the chicken wire, I've sent kids under with a staple gun and a roll of galvanized mesh. Fewer seams, and it goes in faster as a whole length piece. It is also MUCH easier when I make the kids earn their keep. I don't even break a sweat. ;)
So inspiring. Perfect music . Great work guys.
My husband and I are going to do a few of these for extra space for guests on our future homestead .
Thanks a ton Paige! Really looking forward to see what you do! If you ever need anything, hmu!
Looking forward to you completing the A frame cabin, Andrew! Nice one to take off your bucket list, you can be proud of it!
Corné Gelderblom thanks so much Corné! it’s pretty much done and it’s super cozy! thinking about the next build already 🤔💕
wow so if I build a cabin i think this is the best design i have seen! seems the most simple and the most creative/awesome!

Love A frames and especially this one. This is a great video. You guys are an awesome team and you didn't leave out the all important plumber crack.
Rick S Crux haha thank you rick! labor of love
Thank you for showing the steps. Have always wanted a simple A frame. The Carpenter is very good. Good attitude. Sweet space.
T Gray thanks soo much! my first time! super fun to put together 🤗
Nice job with the insulation work, and sealing around the openings…far better construction on this cabin in the woods than on most houses built in the 90s/2000s!!😅
I love the little cabin. I could live there, but needs a few cabinets, loft and a bed. Beautiful work.
Same as would love a cabin just like that in thoes settings very nice and peaceful would be really relaxing
Melda , believe me , I very much doubt you would be happy in such a small space...Much too small for a (sleeping ) loft , difficult to install cabinets on your roof . (think about it ) a bed would use up most of the available space.... Perhaps some small storage space could be made down low on the roof ( walls ) but that takes away valuable floor space....My advice is think much bigger !
Great build! I have some land in the mountains of western Maryland and plan to build a small cabin as well. Your videos are inspirational! Your A Frame looks like its 10 ft by 10 ft. I'm planning on a 10 x 16 cabin - a little bigger but hopefully manageable. Thanks for sharing!
My son and I built an equilateral A frame , floor and both sides are 16 foot...Length is 24 foot so that adds up to 384 square footprint set on some concrete blocks...When we built the A frame cabin I had visions of an upstairs loft , you know the whole bit....We were able to make a very small loft....( big disappointment )...with the wood stove burning the temperature in the loft is quite unbearable.. (impossible for sleeping )....If the sguare footage of the little A frame in the video is 10 x 10. That means my A frame is almost four times as big , and I can honestly say that my A frame is WAY too small for any more than two people . If your dream is to have " a little cabin in the woods " , believe me when I say a little cabin , is just that , too little ! Pretty soon you'll be making plans for an addition . Yes , an A frame is very strong and able to withstand tremendous snow loads that could likely collapse a lesser dwelling , but there is a lot of wasted space.....If I had it to do over , I wood forget about my "little cabin in the woods " , and build as big as I could afford cabin in the woods
Nice job! What a work of joy!
thanks sooo much tony! really appreciate it!
My thoughts confirmed that it wouldn't take much to heat it when I saw the small wood stove .
Great job !
CD S totally! it borderline gets too hot even haha, but it’s great if you don’t mind adding wood in semi-frequently
@Andrew Szeto, if you end up using your cabin in winter, a small version of rocket mass heater may be nice, slowly releasing heat through the night, even after the wood is consumed.
Good short video is: What is a rocket mass heater? (at "paul wheaton" channel)
Rocket stoves burn so hot that they burn the creosote and smoke before anything goes up the chimney, avoiding risk of chimney fires and causing little air pollution.
I've never had one, but they look easy to build and use just a fraction of wood that a wood burning stove uses to heat the same space.
Anyway, I enjoyed the video. I love the quality of the workmanship. I hope you have many wonderful stays in your cabin.
Well possibly ooh cool! thanks for the heads up! the stove could be more efficient for sure. just got a vermont castings aspen stove for free and going tonrefurbish that!
@Andrew Szeto, you're welcome!
Was drawing one for a spot I have south of me 10 by 10 enough for 2 people on like on futon lol it's a offroad spot not looking for much besides a place to lay down and man its incredible good work

I'd kill to live alone like that 😂 small, tidy space, although I'd throw in a little kitchen set. And a taller stove for cooking off of. Fantastic work though! Really enjoyed the drone shots as well :3
thanks soo much! it was a labour of love
I don't recall the name of that stove, but I believe it is made for cooking and boiling water, has an oven attachment. You can also look into the Tent Dragon stove, for small spaces or tents. Flat cook surface on top, oven inside, and heats the space also. Barely any smoke because it is a gasifier
@@recoveringsoul755 yep it's a g stove. it's great, just a small capacity
@@AndrewSzeto G stove, that's right. Thanks.
@@recoveringsoul755 good to know! I've been planning on snagging an old canvas tent when i find one for a good price, that would make an awesome addition to it
Very quaint and looks like it was a lot of fun to make. I will say for anyone watching, your bearing system was quite a lot more complicated than necessary. Four 6x6 PT posts in the ground on pre-cast concrete footings would be fine. A notch at the top to carry 2x12 pairs for rim joists, and 2x10 floor joists hung inside those by hangers and you're ready for sub floor.
Damn that's a cool cabin. How to see more videos this winter!
Using proper vent all the way to the peak was brilliant!

Marissa Lanza where there’s a will there’s a way! all doable!
Why does it seem that when people built these cabins in the woods they always start right before winter? It always seems to snow right before the framing is done.
haha it's more cool that way, instead of the sweltering summer heat?! haha honestly it was when work slowed down a bit and I could take a month off.
