- My first SOLO cabin build! Join me for the fun, food, fire, and HARD WORK as I build a remote, off-grid, A-Frame cabin in 23 days. My building site was only accessible by ATV and while building I lived in a tent. My trusty dog Maysie/Daisy, an 8 year-old collie, was my only help and companion. (AKA Da WOOF!)
Was it worth it?

I love that you do not edit out your errors, missteps or the other little occurrences that come with such a project. It would be so easy to put out an edited "See, wasn't that easy" video, rather than a realistic example of just how projects go sometimes. No matter how well planned your probably going to ride the struggle bus here and there. Great content.
I was a rigger. Your door problem is because the lift point has to be directly above the door or back some from the front point. As you lift the door higher with your system, your pulling it forward not vertical. Two poles mounted into deck with cross beam above it would work and eliminate the poles in the view. I used to fabricate equipment etc. I do everything twice was one motto
My dad use to tie his pencil with a string by making a groove around it with his knife and tying it tightly. You can wear it around your neck, never have to search for it, and if you drop it, you won't lose it complely. You've built such an awesome cabin! I'm in lower SE Michigan and I would LOVE nothing more than my own little piece of nature. You are blessed!

I'm from the U.P. but live in S. California now. Watching these videos makes me want to buy some land back home though, and have an off grid place.
Haha, and I remember helping a friend do her deck once and the general rule of thumb was the boards were a deck nail apart...? I'll try to remember that if need be, pretty sure a pencil won't slip through that. That would otherwise be my luck though, Murphy, of Murphy's law fame, is my best friend.

@@giterdone9013 you definitely want to leave some room for water to pass through and for the boards to expand. I'm honored you are going to use my dad's hack! I myself set things down and then for the life of me I can't find them, so it's been great for me! He was a plumber pipe fitter in the building trades and had all kinds of hacks for things. He passed away 5 years ago, but I'll bet he's honored too! 😉

One of the smartest things you did with that build for daisey is to give her a way to look outside . Dogs get extremely claustrophobic in small spaces where they can't see outside ... people too ! Love your energy . You go girl !
It's great that you show all the reality of cabin building: mistakes, dead batteries, insects, hot weather etc. Not like in these sweet "happy path" videos where everything goes smoothly and it's done in 3 minutes.

This is a tricky design that requires a lot of special cuts, only an extremely tenacious woman could pull this together. You are a winner, and I enjoyed watching you grow as a carpenter.

Dad passed down a life hack to me. Pencil on a string. You're never dropping it or forgetting it somewhere that way. Just tied it to his belt.
I think you can buy those retractable things now like what they use for keys, that might even work better.

I am so impressed with people like yourself who have the skill set to not only document on video the difficult and challenging endeavor but the ability to do two jobs that are both difficult: professional Filming of yourself on your own and building a cabin. I would gas out in about 2 days and your 23 day project would take me 90 days. Bravo!

a tip to standing a wall a lone is to nail a board or 2 on the outside of the deck or floor, then it will hold it up while you nail or screw in place. lots of builders in my family... i never done it just watched it done. seem to work well. just thought food for thought on your next build. :)

You had a dream to build a cabin by yourself and you made it come to pass. Clearing the trail to get oversize materials to site and building it with a crew would be a chore In itself. The humidity And flying insects are horrible in the UP, I know I grew up there. You did a great job you should be proud of yourself.

Working in the late fall and winter is a good time if your climate isn't to cold. Then there aren't any bugs and you can wear more protective clothing without getting hot.

Seriously though, it's impressive you did this project alone, and it's phenomenal work! I loved watching every second of this video! The frustrations in minor mistakes or just acts of God, the attention to detail where it mattered, the tenacity to keep pressing on even though it was a hard build and materials were a 3 hour round trip... Lots of respect!

Watching you build this brought tears to my eyes, I'm a bit disabled and only about 30 percent range of motion in both arms so this would never happen for me. But I'm going to probably spend the next day or so watching all you videos. You are so much fun. Enjoy yourself and stay happy.

A lot of people don't realize how much hard work this actually is sawing those planks by hand is no joke and it takes a lot longer then you'd think so props to you on being able to do this stuff nice build btw
It's hard physical labor, but it isn't something any person couldn't do with time and effort.
I appreciate her showing all the mistakes and the harder parts in general. A lot of folks filming these sorts of builds make it seem like it's an almost effortless, painless effort. This stuff is pretty rugged, but that just makes it even more impressive.

Next time use the ratchet strap by completely wrapping it around the lumber once, and then anchoring it down to the trailer. It will be more stable during transport(long narrow lumber). I love seeing other women build things! There aren't to many of us! I have built a 10x10 pergola, small arbor, 40ft grape arbor through my garden to connect my yards, and multiple fences. BUT, what I REALLY want to build is my own tree house! I've already got it planned out. Thank you for your inspiration! 💚

@@Doggylver777 When her husband did a solo build, everyone praised him for the camera work in addition to the build. I haven't seen anything that looks like a second person holding a camera. I see a lot of tripod shots. I'm only sensitive to this because I've recorded myself working on my house, and one or two people will say "you did it all yourself? then who recorded it?" Um....me. I just think it's weird when people accept that a man built something, but doubt a woman did it herself.
I have replaced a broken 6 ft privacy fence, but I want to build a she shed.
I just love watching you build your projects, over and over again.

God is cruel. I don't know what I did that's so bad, I treated others as I wished to be treated. I've tried to be humble, love my enemy, give thanks for my blessings.
I've just been punished over and over again this year. It hasn't stopped.

All believers must learn to patiently endure a world full of evil, evil that God does not send upon His children, but the enemy, who only comes to kill, steal and destroy.
However God's Word teaches us how to take on and defeat our spiritual enemy, satan and his dark kingdom. You must be strong in the Lord and learn how to wear your spiritual armor, the Armor of God in Eph. 6. Wear it daily, and learn to use the sword of the spirit and the shield of faith.
Ask for help in all these things from believers who are more mature and strong in the Faith of God, which is in Jesus Christ. This is how we have learned to survive and will be soon thriving.

I continued to pray for direction and protection. Pray without ceasing and don’t give up. Heaven and hell is very real and your eternal soul belongs at home, with our Father in Heaven. I am absolutely amazed at all the abilities of this person and I love her personality. What a tremendous job of showing what she did to build this adorable and functional cabin. You did an amazing job building your own cabin and even managed to carve out a road in the middle of a forest full of thickets just to get there. Wow! The algorithm just recommended this video to me and I couldn’t be more pleased. You rock, chick! Amazing build and it’s inspiring to see how you did it all solo. Love the riverside land and such a cute cabin. Got lots of respect for you, and the fact that you say your grace before dinner… 👌🏽💯🙂 You also did a phenomenal job editing what I would imagine to be a ton of footage. Filming and building at the same time is no easy task. I’ll have to check out more videos.

This is an incredible project. I really appreciate how much time and effort went into just filming this for us. I bet all the back and forth setting up the camera must've added hours and hours to this project. Thank you so much for recording this. It's inspirational.
As I watch videos like this, I'm always wondering how much time gets added to getting different camera angles set. It seems like it would be such a hassle but it does look great in the end.
