Dogmeat isn't ghoulified. The medicine the Ghoul gives him isn't one of his own meds, nor the 'miracle drug' that Thaddeus gets later, it's a stimpack - the standard universal "healing potion" from the games, that can set right everything from bruises to broken bones (at least at standard difficulty levels).

It's cool that they use the game logic for Stimpacks. Lucy is also stabbed and uses one to keep going like it didn't happen.

A neat detail I’ve noticed is that his affinity for animals is displayed when we first see him as a ghoul. In the scene where he is dug up by those bounty hunters, he stops to pet a chicken.

One thing I found very interesting from the first positive moment between CX404 (Dogmeat) and Coop was that he calls her a boy, where the audience has already established that she's a girl dog in the scenes before Wilzig escaped from the Enclave compound. At first I figured it was just that he didn't care enough to check, she was just there to track Wilzig, but once Roosevelt was introduced it struck me that even when he tries to forge a disconnect between her and Roosevelt, he never let go of him and attributes other dogs to him even if only subconsciously.

I think we should also discuss how the "kick the dog" trope can give insight to The Ghoul's psychology.
Harming an animal is usually a visual shorthand in movies to show who is a straight up bad guy, but it's not always cut and dry. Like here we have The Ghoul stabbing the dog, but then also healing it and letting it tag along afterwards.
Like his euthanisation and cannibalisation of Roger, The Ghoul's conflicting actions indicate a more complicated sense of morality - the morality of a hardened survivor.

That, and he isn't afraid of heights, nor falling from them apparently, haha.

One day my brother dropped a puppy off because he didn't want to leave it on the streets for an upcoming winter. I took him in and though he was frustrating at first, i think the challenge of training kept me destrated from my loneliness and deep depression.
My dog is super sweet and people are surprised despite his large size he is a sweetheart. Even funnier when people describe me as a really serious person.
This dog forces me to go out into nature. Meet new people. Distract me when I am down. And even if I have the worst day, he would tackle me to just piss me off 😅. He is my unlicensed therapy dog and my best friend.

One moment between Cooper and Roosevelt that I loved was just as Coop was about to head down to the wrap party for the Vault-Tec advertisement. I forget the exact wording but Cooper expresses his distain for the event and mentions something about 'heading into enemy territory'. He's clearly uncomfortable and he stated that he just wanted a quiet night at home with his family, but he's being pushed to 'perform' the role of gracious host to a bunch of people that he clearly doesn't like and who only see his as a commodity to sell their product. When his wife (y'know the woman he loves, his life partner, the one person you'd expect him to be completely honest with) told him about the party he kinda just went along with what she wanted to make her happy. He always does what is expected of him, by his wife, his daughter, at work, by Vault-Tec, by the government and the military in the past. And in that moment it's like Roosevelt is the only creature on the planet that Cooper can be truly honest with and that's so sweet (because dog's are awesome) but also really sad for Cooper.

I like to think that Dogmeat became a popular name for dogs in the wasteland because even after all this time people recognized the importance of the name. Why they know it's important might be a distant memory, they just know it's significance; it's like why we would name dogs Fido or Rex, we might not know why these names are important, we just know they're good names for dogs. From the Vault Dweller of Vault 13 and their grandson the Chosen One of Arroyo Village, to the Lone Wanderer of Vault 101, to the Sole Survivor of Vault 111. Legends of these people spread across the wastes, some more amazing and harder to believe than the last, with friendly super mutants or talking deathclaws, with alien ray guns or a simple hunting rifle, regardless of the details, with them there were dogs named Dogmeat.

One of the things that l liked about Dogmeat in Fallout 4 is that he is amoral. He will continue to be your companion no matter what choices you make. Using Dogmeat as a plot device to represent a conscience works well in the show but I don't like to think of him that way in the game.

This was great as always. Just one side note: another person also mentioned it. Dogmeat is not a Ghoul. He was still alive when Cooper decided to help him. You could here a little wimpy sound from him, when cooper looks around. And he just got a normal stimpack. So he was just healed 😊 love the video anyway.
I think, a soft spot for animals in Cooper was shown early on, in the scene with the chicken. He just cuddles it and at the end it was the only person left alive 😂

Georgia I think you should do a video on maximus.. I know you're probably moving to other things but I think he has a very interesting character.
You see when we were being told that this show was going to be made the three characters represent the three karma choices in fallout The Good the neutral and the evil.
After watching the show it's really kind of hard to feel that these three characters represent those good choices because lines get blurred like whenever you do play fall out everything's not so simply good evil or neutral.
I truly do think that Maximus is a good example of just the lines getting blurred because if you do not know this.
A lot of people from pre-war were very very capitalistic to the point where the little guy or the middle class was severely severely abused in terms of physical mental and spiritual means this is an example found throughout all of the fallout games.
And I say spiritual means because if you want to look it up and fallout 76 there is a location called the Palace of the winding path.
It is a great example of how people were manipulated and abused in terms of spiritual means.
but sorry, was rambling and rambling...... It is my ADHD but as I was saying earlier I think it'd be a very good video, to do one on Maximus.

Another great video! The Ghoul is definitely my favorite character, and I have some unresolved questions about him. Like what exactly is the medicine that the live women were being held hostage for to create that he was topping up on. Perhaps its some hormone that keeps that sanity going, keeps you enough "alive" so as to not go feral?
Also I don't think Snake Oil Salesman ghoulified Thaddeus, I think it might well have been an FEV sample?
It's also definitely Chekov's Stimpack being used in the fallout, heh, of the Filly battle. Not whatever anti-feral meds the Ghoul was taking and had to replace.

    Stimpacks don't cause goulification.
They are just a macguffin from the game to allow healing of an injured character to allow you to keep playing uninhibbited.
In the show they serve the same purpose, which you see when Lucy 'goosey' McLain injects herself with a stimpack after being stabbed and then she is instantly able to go into the main part of the vault to help fight the raiders.
So Dogmeat isn't a ghoul, he/she is still just a regular dog ... unless the Enclave scientist did something after rescuing Dogmeat from being thrown into the furnace.

So Dogmeat, in their various incarnations (as well as any other canine buddies you come across in the wasteland), have always been my favourite parts of the Fallout games, and this new version in the show is no different. It feels... right somehow, having a lil furry friend to keep me company in game, just like I always had as a kid/teen.

First off I want to say I enjoy your videos and your thoughts/opinions and power of observation. There is one point here that I feel ypu missed, though were close to. You mention his questioning coming from being used to having power and also from being told to do things he did not want to do (reffering to the acting scene). However he on several occasions mentions his time in the army and in the war. He talks of the poor decisions people in power made that got a lot of his friends killed. They even sent them to battle in power armour with a weak spot in the front. That makes a huge impression on people. For example I had commanders make terrible choices that put my life and the lives of those I was responcible for needlesly at risk (likely did not help that I had a birthday over seas putting me at the same age my mother was when she died at her job). This lack of thinking about safety has made me a lot more safety foccused in civi side and unwilling to assume work has a good solution. I ask a lot more questions about their safety plans as I do not trust they have thought it through (most safety plans are reactionary, but I have no intention of bevoming the incident that causes a safety plan because some one in a tie did not think it through). Similarily he does not trust that Vault-Tec is making choices that are wise and for the good of those at the bottom.
