      Oh ok. I use electric heating elements for the mash tun and kettle. The mash tun uses a RIMs tube which is a small heating element made by Ss Brewtech. It connects to my controller and regulates temperature. I have a “Brewhouse tour” video up on my page now if you’d like to see a full tour of my equipment. I’m happy to answer any questions 🍻

    Hey Ryan, great video. I purchased the filter grant since it looked like a nice gadget to add. It looks like you’re going from your pump through filter, into chiller then out to fermenter. It seems like you will be left with the filter grant full of wort as once the pump gets through all the liquid there is nothing to force the remaining wort out of the grant and theough the chiller to the fermenter. Can you confirm this or let me know how your getting all the wort?

  • @frey311
    @frey311 Před 2 lety

    My setup is almost finished…if you don’t mind my asking, what is the sight glass connecting into before the bottom left pump? I see the micro tee but what is the tee connected too? Wondering if one of the valves that came with the tree would work 🤔🤔🤔

    • @ryanmichaelcarter
      @ryanmichaelcarter  Před 2 lety

      Hey Jeff, awesome! On the micro tee, that is a check valve. Its not really necessary since I have a valve on the HLT, but it just prevents wort from flowing up that tube. On the outbound side of that pump, I have a ball valve before the RIMs tube.

  • @skpb609
    @skpb609 Před rokem

    Great setup. For the PID do you have it set on auto tune or self tune? I am having some trouble with getting to temp and holding temp in the mash ton (RIMS) for my strike water. How long does it normally take for you to get to strike temp in your mash ton while circulating through RIMS?

    • @ryanmichaelcarter
      @ryanmichaelcarter  Před rokem

      I run the auto tune every once in a while. It’s important to run that during the actual process (for the RIMS, make sure you have grain/water in the MT.. for the HLT, fill it with a normal volume of water.)
      I heat my strike water in the HLT first, so when it hits the MT it’s already at temp. The HLT takes about 20 mins to get to temp (I heat strike volume first, then do the Sparge water separately)

  • @ClayMahaffey
    @ClayMahaffey Před rokem

    Thanks Ryan. I've had my SS Brewtech 3v eRims system for almost a year now, and I'm just getting to setting it up (real life gets in the way of fun sometimes!)
    So do I understand it right that you send your MT recirc through the primary pump, then over to the inlet of the HLT pump to feed the RIMs and back into the MT? I'm guessing that's so you don't have to do a hose switch to start lautering. Do you run both pumps when mashing? Or do you just push through the HLT pump?
    Thanks so much for the videos! They've gotten me fired up to get my 3V system working (I have a BrewHa 1/2 BBL system as well, so it was easy to just put off getting my smaller system up and running.)

    • @ryanmichaelcarter
      @ryanmichaelcarter  Před rokem +1

      Hey Clay, awesome! And yes, you are correct. I have it configured that way so I don’t need to mess with any hoses during brew day. When I’m mashing, I only use the second pump under the mash tun. I use the HLT pump when transferring water to the mash tun, otherwise, it’s off

  • @grbrewing
    @grbrewing Před 11 dny

    Do you have a flow chart/diagram? Video was a little fast and even with pausing and screen shots it’s hard to follow. Also did you have an issue with your check valve? Gravity to check valve isn’t pushing water through

    • @ryanmichaelcarter
      @ryanmichaelcarter  Před 8 dny

      Sorry no diagram but I have a full walk through video here of my current system (Spike Trio brewhouse). How is your check valve oriented? It shouldn’t take much force to get flow through

    • @grbrewing

      @@ryanmichaelcarter one could only hope haha. I’ve watched the ss and spike videos 1000 times and still getting lost. Check valve was backwards at first, fixed that. Another question for you Ryan.....I have all components connected. I have a similar T to the first pump to utilize the HLT and the sight glass recirc. My question is, how do you ensure that HLT water gets into and out of the first pump with your set-up??....It appears that your first T has not valves...I do see a valve at the pump "out" which would need to be open. But it seems like pumping your HLT would shoot right up into your sight glass which comes to the same T......Or I am supremely missing something...lol

    • @ryanmichaelcarter
      @ryanmichaelcarter  Před rokem +1

      Hey Marc, the HLT water feeds the inlet of the first pump by gravity. I open up the HLT valve on my kettle and it flows down to the pump. The reason it doesn't flow into the Mash Recirculation path (top left sight glass on the tree) is because that valve is closed. The tubing section between the pump and the recirc valve is full of air and will not let fluid in.

    • @ryanmichaelcarter
      @ryanmichaelcarter  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Marc, on the 3V there are three separate controllers-- HLT, Boil Kettle, and Mash Tun (from left to right). The cables coming from the bottom are all in the same order from left to right. The power OUTPUTS are on the front and the power INPUTS are toward the rear. There are only 2 30A inputs because the Boil Kettle and Mash Tun are on the same circuit.
