done - I own PS CS5 and it is hard finding tutorials from back then. So thanks
BLTV News!: My recreation of the "Hope" poster using Abraham Lincoln for the portrait, was the only tutorial shown at The New York Stock Exchange to all the Shutterstock employees as the example of instructional videos offered by Shutterstock's new venture, "Skillfeed".
I dont have the artistic option on my version of ps. pleas help.
Waitman Johnson Did you click on Filter first? That should bring up the artistic option. At least that's how it works in CS3. I'm not sure of the differences in other versions.
XxTheAvengerXxX yeah I have to go to filter options or something I found it.
Cool. :)
Blue Lightning TV Hey do you know where I can get the Obama file you used in your video?
The Cutout filter is now in Filter Gallery
+TheBDQJP Amen to you m8
***** If you're using photoshop CS6 then it's in the filter gallery, if you're not, then i can't help you
Old ass comment but gotta say thanks for that
@@cortana323 lol np
Yes. Work mostly in TV (Conan O"Brien, Saturday Night Live, Dateline, Today, etc.), but also do print (book jackets, record albums, theater posters, logos, etc.)
BLTV, you're the best! I went from doing visuals on oldschool MS Paint to making high quality art on PS in a matter of a week thanks mostly to you! I really appreciate all the hard work, dedication, and considerately beginner-friendly tips and steps.
Thank you Marty for explaining how it is done,I have seen lots of this type of political poster art down here recently and wondered how it was done, guessed it would have to be photo shopped...
This tutorial helped me so much. After searching through 3 different CZcams videos and tons of websites, I finally found an easy to follow one. Thanks
I can't wait to actually do this, just watching the video I was asking myself questions. I'm going to learn so much by doing it. Thanks!
joemar...Type in your Browser: "Nevis Bold". There are dozens of sites that will come up that have the font.
Thank you for your brilliant tutorial, it was very helpful and I was able to do everything other thn adding the lines 0 but good enough.
Thankyou for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Managed to do it using alan smith (footballer) poster, Thank you blue lightning TV!
ShadowLuc16...go to "Filter" and "Filter Gallery". The "Artistic" folder is there.
Miguel Hernandez Moran...It doesn't have to be that size. You can CROP your image to any size and resolution or create a NEW DOCUMENT at a specific size, then drag your image into it and use your transform tool to re-size it.
Amazing tutorial! learned a few new helpful hotkeys thanks!
I've learned so much from this video its amazing. good job! Please keep it up!
Your tutorials are awesome. I really appreciate how you explain WHY things happen even though we don't explicitly need to know them; it makes me feel less like a brainless drone following directions and plugging in values and more like I actually understand the nuances and behaviors behind art programs and their functions. Also, for some reason I picture your voice with George Carlin's face. And then I get very confused.
Bro great job! This is the kind of tutorial I like! Fast & to the point! Even with it being on a way older version of PS I was able to follow along just fine!
Thank you for this amazing tutorial, this is exactly what I'm looking for in a tutorial and it definitely delivered :D :)
your tutorials are awesome! so clear! so helpful!
Instead of using a layer mask for the stripes, you can double-click on the stripes layer and use blend if. You can then play with the underlying contrast and see the results immediately,
What a great tutorial... Very nicely done!
Super nice!! Step by step thanks Marty!!
i got everything but the border? The quick selection option didn't work, I think.
Any chance of an update to this tutorial? I have an image I really want to try this technique on! I figure a new vid wiulg be better audio and a slightly slower speed. Thanks Marty, I really love these vids!!
Thank you for the awesome video.
When i try to make the layer mask icon, it just makes a white page, how do i fix this?
i was searching for this ,yes this is what i need
thank you so much bluelightningtv
Wow, this poster is a lot of work. Thanks for the tutorial!
this is probably the best tutorial I've ever seen on youtube so far...ever
Another great tutorial! Thanks, Marty.
Thank you for this great tutorial!
This is very helpful. Love your work! Thank you!
Hi. This is amazing but I'm just having one problem and can't seem to get the border right. I really don't understand the Annotations part i.e; what to do clearly while making the border because I'm using photoshop for the 1st time. Will you please help me out with how to make the border process step by step. Thank you!
CallofDutyFreak011...Go to Filter Gallery. The Sketch folder is there. Regarding the outside border, make your photo (i.e.: Abe Lincoln) visible and active. After you drag out the border selection, invert it by pressing Ctrl or Cmd+Shift+I. Then, fill the selection with white. Invert the selection (Ctrl or Cmd+Shift+I). Drag out another rectangular selection to the chest. Press Alt or Opt+ Delete to fill it and Q to make the quickmask into a selection. This will bring you to 5:18 in the video.

Nice one, Marty!
;-)
Excellent tutorial. Thanks.
Holy shit! You're literally my hero for this. I can't believe how long I've been doing cropping without the quick select tool.
I almost don't even care if I can make the poster now :D
Dude same I've been struggling with the magic wand for 10 years.. I didn't even know the quick select tool existed.

PyroMania2012...are you referring to the clipping icon? Email me at bluelightningtv@gmail.com to clarify exactly what you're referring to. Give the minutes:seconds on the video that shows the "two little circles overlapping".
Epic tutorial!!
magicQueen01...for the picture, just go to Google Images and type in Obama Hope poster. On the left, in the "search" categories, specify only large sizes.
I'm pretty stuck I'm afraid. Hope you can help. I can either make the halftone pattern halftone-line-red, solid blue, or solid red when I use the halftone function, but not halftone-line-blue. I follow the annotations and do a 50% brightness alt-del fill on the photo layer, not the layer mask layer, which leads to a halftone-line-red layer obscuring my work. I do it on the layer mask and it makes halftone-red on the selected area. I do it with a blue swatch selected at 50% brightness, it stays solid blue. I select the area with the magic wand tool and try applying the half tone to that area and it either goes halftone-red or solid blue, depending on the colour I use with alt-del. Also tried using a black fill with 50% opacity. Sorry for the essay, just stumped completley
very nice! subscribed!
Fantastic stuff!
That was awesome (Y) you are a good teacher ! Thanks
AWESOME!!! Thank you!
thank you this is an amazing tutorial
Worked perfect thanks!
Great stuff! Amma try this now...
Although I think this is a terrific tutorial, I think you need to find the right photo to start with, one that has a good range of tones. Then it falls into place. Thanks, clear tutorials, well thought out.

go to Edit -> Preference -> Plug-Ins -> And check Filters ( show all filter gallery)
Hope This Helped :)
Its not under Edit just Preference in the Photoshop Tab

Thank you!! :)
About the border thing ! You need to switch through layers while handling this. Go between Obama's photo and yours. That helped me alright !
I'm stuck at the part where I use Quick Mask"Q" it turns a light red and when i try press Alt+Delete it only turnes the obama poster red ...what do i do??

WELL DONE!
I LOVE YOU, THANKS DUDE.
it really easy one ,, thanks for easy explained
3.51 I cant get the layer to go down. did i miss anything??
your videos are awesome. May I request James Bond poster tutorial
Hello, I'm having trouble with my image. I followed the steps of selecting the image layer and doing the border on white and the space for text in the darkest color, there's no problem it looks just like in the video, but, when I turn the adj. layers on, the layer above the original (clipping mask and lines) makes the image to overlap the border and text space. I guess it is because the clipping mask of the video shows less than the one from the image I'm using. But then, where should I make the border and text-space so the clipping-mask layer won't overlap? Please :), someone?
great. thanks!
oh my God it's beautiful, dude !
How do I change the text to say "NO HOPE"? :-)~
the adjustment panel on CS6 is different.. theres no back option or anything like gradient on there...?
i am having a problem making a boarder can anyone help me
thax Martin....good job!!!
Thanks, my dude.
