@laminage I actually loved that about Alan--that his favorite child was his adopted child. It made him more human and likable. He also didn't know Rafe for most of his life (or Gus, for that matter), whereas he's known Lizzie and James since they were born. The only grandchild who really got the shaft was Zach, which is a pity because his birth name is actually Alan Cooper Spaulding.

In The UK Fans of the Soap Opera Emmerdale got upset when they forgot that Belle Dingle and a Young Man named Nate aren't Cousins but Aunt/Nephew. Belle's Big Brother Cain is the Bio Father to Nate whom he had when he a Teenager with a Woman named Cora.
You know what would have been heavy if Jonathan and Bill talked about their complicated Relationship with Alan and Jonathan could have said "Alan did some pretty horrible things but when push came to shove, he just wanted Lizzie to be happy, we were more alike than we realized because we both had complicated Relationships with our Parents, I made peace with Reva but he never really did."

When Phillip was a Baby a Nanny named Lucia Renaldi was hired to take care of him, however since Elizabeth may have suffered from Post Partum Depression she didn't allow Alan to get close to her, as a result she and Alan had an affair, she didn't tell him she was pregnant, instead she put him up for adoption and became a Nun.
No, he's not a bad person at all. Even though he was a Spaulding by Blood, he never had the status that Lizzie & James did. I think it's so crappy that those two always came first and not the other grandchildren.
You know what would have been a heavy scene. Remy & Christina talk about what happened to Alan and Remy could have said: "I never liked that Man, and I despised him for what happened to Tammy, but even I wouldn't want him to die." Christina could have said: "He was so sad and hurt when nobody in his family came to see him after his heart attack, and he promised that he would change, and just when he had that second chance, he lost it."
