Sounds like exactly what we all have to do to enter the US
ETIAS doesn't go into effect until 2025. You can sign up on their website to get email updates
I did not know this was even a thing. I still appreciate the heads up even if it's early
It was supposed to go into effect this January, but they changed it to next year.
Yes I received an update a couple of weeks ago.
Lucky me. I’m from Brazil and going to spend vacation next may around the balkan countries. But I’m alright about ETIAS. I’ll do it.
I happy that they move to next year I plan to go Rome this October
Yes, well, people have been paying for an ESTA to enter the U.S for YEARS, including Europeans. The price keeps going up 😒
What's that?
@@pst9821 An ESTA is required for people visiting the US from countries in the Visa Waiver Program. Instead of needing a visa they fill in a form, which once approved, allows short visits during the next 2 years. If your country isn't in the VWP you need to apply for a visa.
@@mikefish8226 i don't think i need either to enter
Yeah i mean its like ESTA or ETA for USA or Canada....
Do these new rules/laws also apply to those getting to Europe on rafts made from tire inner tubes, or those packed into small fishing boats?
I think it's a much better deal to get to Europe by the tire innertube/small fishing boat method; you end having all your expenses paid by the local governments - free housing, free medical, free everything. It's really a great system.
No
europe is one of the best place for vacation
i love the food
best sights ever
Love it
good to know. appreciate the info
Thanks Nik this is a big help
Good to know!
Thank you so much I thought it implemented this year
This isn’t any different than ETA in Canada and ESTA in US that is required for non North American travellers and has been around for years. UK will also have this type of program for non residence.
Same for Australia and New Zealand. The only irony is we'll let people we don't know swim in for free, but some expect their votes. Our friends with passports, not so much with actual money to spend when they visit, not so much. This process makes a ton of sense for any country with actual border security.
so we are running out of places we are allowed to visit.
They aren't saying you can't come just that you have to provide your information ahead of time so they can vet you. The US has done the same for quite some time for visitors as to many other countries such as New Zealand and Australia.@@clement2780
@@clement2780 you can travel you just need to get this visa prior to travelling to Europe in 2025. It lasts for 2 to 5 years and you can get it online. Pretty easy.
tough when you make less than 600,000$ per month though to prove you are financially stable @@michelle.goodridge
Lol, you could have led with 'not until 2025', but then I guess we wouldn't have watched the whole video. 😆 Thanks for the heads up and advice in any case! 🙏
He said it at the beginning of the clip.
Our tour group excursions in Rome have told us that the May 2024 ETIAS Schedule has been delayed till May 2025. Not to worry about on our trip to Rome this year. The ETIAS website will have better time frame to see if it may be in April or whenever at the beginning of next year, 2025.
Thank you! Good info. Living in Madrid right now and the Spanish government lost my renewal resident visa application. I'm coming and going for the time being wondering when this is going to start as they have new bio metric machine at customs. They do not use them yet, but I was wondering if they would be part of the ETIAS process.
Europeans had to get an ESTA on top of a visa (on arrival) when going to America since 2008, so it's only fair Europe reciprocate the hurdle 🤷♀
Just come in thru Texas. No passport, no visa, nothing. Just the wet shirt off your back.
It was supposed to be 2024... hopefully they keep pushing it back 🤣
Another thing to be mindful of is new countries joining the Schengen agreement. We just took a big 8 month trip. We had both been to Croatia years before and also double checked it wasn't a part of the agreement when we started planning in November 2022. Come 2023 when we're on our trip planning what's next, book two weeks in Croatia, only to realize weeks later that it's now Schengen as of January 2023. We ended up overstaying our Schengen visa by accident 🤦
So far, Europe has been the 2nd best continent for me to travel on. Asia is #1. I've yet to run around Africa & I'm looking forward to it. I'll start in Marrakesh
i know for canadians, south africa namibia botswana, malaysia singapore indonesia(?), brunei(?) thailand , most of the americas, most of small oceania will be visa free, as is ireland, and israel.
As per my knowledge this measure is a kick back from Europe to the mentioned nations. My daughter is an Italian citizen, to enter Canada she requires something similar to ETIAS - eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization). And that requiremnt is there since long time ago - 2012. That's creepy towards Italians as the second largest Canadian diaspora.
As far as I know all visa and other entry requirements are based on the Reciprocal Visa Exemption Arrangements. It's not clear why Europe and America can't or don't want to solve this issue.
Just like the US ESTA. Quid pro Quo
I wasn't financial free until my 40’s and I’m still in my 40’s, bought my third house already, earn on a monthly through passive income, and got 4 out of 5 goals, just hope it encourages someone's that it doesn’t matter if you don’t have any of them right now, you can start TODAY regardless your age INVEST and change your future! yeah investment is the key to sustaining your financial longevity but venturing into any legitimate Investment without a proper guidance of an expert can lead to a great loss too
Hello, I’m 37 and I am not worth much yet , please help me out. Bought my first house last month and I can't seem to make any other smart investment.
wanted to trade, but I got discouraged with the market price fluctuations
Can you recommend a guide for me?
I would highly recommend Professional Chrissy Barymoer his strategies are just great especially for novice in this stock field
Correction to Map.. @1:00
According to the US Embassy in Croatia : " Croatia is a member of the Schengen Area. For further details about travel into and within Schengen countries, please see the State Department’s Schengen Fact Sheet. " , and as such No Visa is required. Don't know if they were not a member when you posted the video .
Map shown from 1:00 is outdated. Croatia is in the Schengen area and UK is no longer in the EU.
ETIAS for Americans is litterally ESTA for french people. Could make things faster at the custom.
Does it apply if you start in a non-ETIAS country (UK) but you're on a cruise and stopping in ETIAS countries (Netherlands and Belgium)?
ETIAS is not being introduced until 2025. It is very similar to what the USA introduced back in 2008.
Yes. I was going to apply and the website wasn't even ready yet to except applications & reads system goes live in 2025
IS USA getting any financial support from EU $$$$. Time to stop financing NATO-Europe protection
Cheaper and lasts longer than the one for the US
no etias and uk eta(?) will be much more expensive and difficult to apply and obtain approval than eta for canada or usa.
I’m a dual citizen American/Italian and have both an American and Italian ( European Union) passport. None of this applies to me. I simply enter and exit European Union countries with that passport, nothing else is required of me.
yep, keep the italian passport valid and you are good to go whenever you want.
You're an attention seeker get a life
It's essentially the same than ESTA, which is required for visa-exempt tourists o enter the USA; or, to paraphrase, another form of tax.😕
Thank you, for this reminder of a new future travel document requirement. The only thing that, I dislike about the ETIAS is that if, I understand correctly you have to submit a new form every time you travel to Europe. Would prefer if, it was more like a short term passport say ... good for a two (2)-year period of travel for each the counties within a certain zone (smile...smile).
You apply once in 5 years. You can go in and out as often as You want unless You changed your passport.
i would prefer if there were a non online version for those of us who find technology difficult. also one for multiple countries instead of just one for each- like bus tours, river or ocean cruises which visit several countries.
@@clement2780 it covers the entire Schengen zone. You don't need one for each country within that zone, as there are no passport checks once you're in.
You'll have to submit your biometrics to enter. That doesn't bother you?
@@pst9821 I already have a biometric passport. I don't see the difference.
It seems to be very similar to the USA ESTA system but cheaper😂
You may want to start with 2025. Also, if you put info on the net, ensure it is accurate. Romania and Bulgaria are part of Schengen (As of March 1, 2024). If you fly into Romania or Bulgaria, you will require the ETIAS.
Originally it was going to be 2023. Then 2024. Now it’s 2025. It’s idiotic
nah man, you dont have to do any of that. Just show up in a dhingy, you dont even need a passport
Exactly! I don’t think all those invading Europe are asked for any special requirements!
And so what? I went to Singapore, Australia and New Zealand last year and filled up the information online and got the authorization almost instantly… not a big deal… they do that already to come to the States
I read where they ask you about pre existing medical conditions. Are these suppose to ban you from entry? What's the purpose? Imean, i have an old hip replacement and some sciatica. Do they really ask?
The purpose is not to validate your health, it's to evaluate if you're likely to violate the law. (overstay, terrorism, criminal activity)
ETIAS starts in 2025. EES starts 6 October bio metrics face and fingerprints.
Your Shengen Areaa map is a bit outdated: The UK is still shown as an EU country.
And was NEVER a Schengen member!
@@ruhri0411 That’s true, but the map showed the U.K. as an EU country *outside the Schengen area.*
Shows Croatia out of Schengen too.
Imagine! Actually vetting who comes and goes in your country. I’d LOVE to have it in the US
The USA already has it, it’s called Electronic System for Travel Authorization.
😂😂😂 US has been doing it for a long time
They were supposed to start this Jan 1, 2024
Went in November no problem went in again January
No problem
Then I did research and they have been threatening to do this every year for the past 10 years
How does this work for dual EU/US citizen?
use the EU passport. remember: Liechtenstein Switzerland Norway and Iceland also counts as if EU ( they are part of schengen area !!) and for rare circumstances citizens of Vatican Monaco Andorra and San Marino are also excempt.
If we are in europe towards the end of 2024 and not leaving until early 2025 will we have to have this?
The exact start date isn't yet known, so you may even leave before it takes affect. But basically, no - it will be based on the date you enter the Schengen zone.
I don't know why some americans find this inconvenient. USA has been doing this for over 5 years now.
Yeah it's pretty straightforward. Just another quick online form.
for way longer
What is "the Shinding area"?
😂😅
It's the Schengen Area. Area of free circulation for the legal residents and citizens of those specific countries.
Shinding?😮
Shengin is not a area in a Eu agreement that uk was part of this has been in place for a while the new rules are same as you esta
I'm traveling to Barcelona, Spain from the U.S. on April 28, 2024. Do I need to apply for ETIAS?
No. This is 2025 onwards.
no
He mentioned at least twice that this only takes effect from 2025.
So dont worry about it till 2025 right?
Big Brother is here.
It's been in the US since 2008 with ESTA, in Canada since 2015 with eTA, Australia already has its ETA, New Zealand already has its NZeTA and the UK is rolling out its ETA starting 2024.
Have you read 1984 ?
Dual citizens of a country requiring ETIAS and of a Visa free country are NOT required to file ETIAS. Example: Myself, Finland and USA citizenship. I do not need ETIAS because of my Finnish citizenship and my rights as a European. My question is how will Airlines deal with ETIAS, and passengers like myself who do not need it?
Use Finland passport when check in
Croatia is part of the Schengen since 2023!
At 1:00 why does map show the UK as an EU country?
Great catch - this Schengen map must be slightly older. Although meant to simply explain Schengen, should have caught that. Thanks for pointing out
also- Croatia has been Schengen since Jan 1, 2023@@awaytogether
This doesn't apply to EU citizens. The Irish Republic is not a member of the Shengan area, hence we don't need to comply with ETIAS
Correct
Just the same as the esta in america that non americans have to have when going there. not any different
Dude, Ireland is NOT part of The United Kingdom (anymore). Your map of the EU/Schengen countries does not show Ireland which is definitely in the EU. If I were Irish wouldn’t be very happy about the exclusion.
at last check the republic of ireland can continue to go to both uk and schengen zone europe without visas of any kind.
This is nothing new. From the UK, we already need ETA to enter Canada or ESTA to enter the USA.
How primative of the EU to do this. In the U.S. we simply let all people cross our border without any cumbersom passports or visas. It makes it so much simpler.
You obviously don’t know what’s going on in your own country! I’m an Australian and every time I travel to the US, I have to fill out an ESTA application which cost me US$21 before I can enter your country. In fact, I can’t even get on the plane without showing that I have obtained this document. You are maybe being sarcastic in view of your current illegal immigrant situation, in which case I apologise 😢 But I have seen so many comments from Americans complaining about how the US should also introduce a scheme like this to punish Europe for daring to do this that i felt compelled to reply in this manner.
😂😂😂 the same system has existed in the US for Europeans for a long time
Not sure if it's a troll, but the US has more or less a similar system in place for something like 20 years, which is much more stricter (also applies to transit flights, short validity) and much more expensive.
What is the Schengen area?
1:06 The countries in light and dark blue plus Croatia belong to the Schengen area, that means you can travel freely within the area; only one travel authorization needed for all these countries.
It is not not operational now . 21-01-24 may be after may or june 2024.
It probably get delay until 2026.
Shendeng Area (sounds chinese)! (?)
Looks like you have some hearing issue. It is not shendeng it is Schengen. A town from Luxembourg where the treaty was signed. Get some
Q tips
@@leonidasthermopylae3378 no hearing issues or being verbally tactful in conversation (lol). Just comparing similarities

Agree. Say this multiple times in the video
A Brexit 'bonus' if youre from the UK... Or #bonkersbrexitland
"Brexit"
LOL: UK was among the biggest proponents of ETIAS. It was decided shortly before the brexit vote.
Yes .. I am aware...
Old info, and another year to wait.
Stopped listening. Can't stand it when someone purposely drags out the getting to the point. This was 30 seconds of information, stretched to fill 3 minutes. If you don't have anything to say, stop talking.
I don't trust the "applying online" process.
Welcome to 2024 if you don’t do stuff online, you won’t be going anywhere n
I’d be curious to know if you were able to travel to Europe in the past without any online experience?
I have a Portuguese passport I got directly from the consulate and I've reapplied to renew my American passport at my local city hall. Don't trust any online services you'll be making a big mistake.
Doesn’t take effect until May, 2025 at the earliest.
Alarmist click-bait.
This video says multiple times ETIAS doesn’t take place until 2025. It’s information I thought would be relevant to our audience. I also made this video about a third as long as our normal content because I don’t want to waste your time.
Seems every travel you tube channel is churning out these new ETIAS videos - do you all just watch each other and churn out the same information, nothing new. Your title alludes to this being something more immediate - not a whole year away (and even then who knows), might have saved everyone a whole lot of worry by leading with 2025 !!
You also need to update your map - its out of date and you should know this. Croatia joined the Schengen zone last year, Romania and Hungary joined this year.
Hi there - much of our audience cares about Europe travel and I felt I needed to make an ETIAS video in case someone hadn't heard! Honestly I felt like I was 'late to the punch' on this information. The timing is awkward - sorry you feel clickbaited. Nothing in the packaging for this video says immediate, and the hashtag for this video, displayed right under the player says 2025. Thank you for pointing out the Schengen map error. We do know this - just grabbed an old map in this instance. Were more focused on the news of ETIAS than checking each schengen country. We'll do better.
just too expensive to go to europe; already flights luggage hotels trains cost a bundle
In that case, you have saved 4 Euros by not going!
wrong schengen visa was 80 euros at last check per country, plus a requirement of daily or monthly income (was it 600,000$ per month?) @@daisy8297
until 2045😂😂
I frequently visit countries that will be using these systems and it is easy to apply but seems strange to require those citizens from close connection with genuine tourism goals, but allow anyone walk over the borders and claim housing, funds and open access even with no ID if they claim they are immigrants. It is far less enjoyable to take a vacation in Europe new and getting worse monthly with crime against tourists exploding , the homeless dominating sights and points of interest. Europe is in serious decline and now is not the fun interesting destination it used to be. I have been in 92 countries and most of them are getting better while Europe and USA, my native country are in steep decline. The last time I was in Paris it was dirty and scary when it used to be a great destination. I was in London last year and was surprised that now, 64% of the residents are recent immigrants, and it looks really run down with high crime rates. I live in St Petersburg Russia a stunning highly cultured city, and it is so much safer, friendlier, open and almost crime free. And cheap to visit.
So mush of Asia Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, South America are actually safer and have growing economies but Europe shows the signs of decay and seems to have been much better to remember how it used to be than see it now. Adding one more obstacle, even if minor and low cost, that makes one question their travel plans.
Nothing more than a hidden tax on travel... Bring in the carbon tax as well! great job EU!
So it’s ok to have to do literally the same thing to get into the US, but not for Europe? From memory, I believe the ESTA fee is USD21!
If 7 Euros is a big consideration for you, maybe you should think twice about travelling to Europe🤪
Guys, I enjoy your videos. Please spend some time and care correctly pronouncing “Schengen”. It’s Sheng-en. Not Shen-Gen. Not Chinese. German. Ouch. Hurts my ears.
Schengen is located in the posh Grand Duchy Of Luxembourg :D ok they understand german as well ;)
He has an odd mouth/teeth/jaw. Like, an underbite, maybe. Scale back your travel budget and put that money into orthodontics. Your jaw needs resetting.
Let's call it what it is. A tax. The US is going to impose something similar for all EU/UK folks.
If you bother to read the comments above you will find out that the USA has been doing this since 2008. The cost for Europeans going to the USA is around $30, five times more expensive than what Americans will have to pay..
Oh my God, the self-righteous outrage from some Americans posting on this site. Every time I come to the US I have to apply and pay around US$21 for my ESTA application - around $32 Australian - so much more than what Europe will be charging. Don’t you know what’s going on in your own country, and did you enjoy posting your ill-informed tit for tat comment?
already does.

I don't like it. I think its makes traveling unnecessarily cumbersome for citizens of neighbouring countries. They will ask for a comparable treatment for European citizens and in the end international travel will become more complicated and expensive for everyone.
Europeans have had to do this when entering the US for 20 years....
This is fixing a problem that doesn’t exist. Big, intrusive government at work.
