Mark hails the majesty of Abel Gance's epic vision, and the mammoth restoration process that led to its re-release.

This film is a stunning masterpiece on so many levels. I bought a copy form the BFI. Then, two more more copies for friends. Gance was brilliant, as are Mr. Kevin Brownlow and Mr. Carl Davis whose score for this nearly six-hour-long film greatly outshines the one heard in the Coppola-produced version of 1980.
To fully appreciate Abel Gance's contribution to cinema, Kevin Brownlow's fascinating book "Napoleon" (published by Photoplay) is also highly recommended.
this film is a mahler score brought to life, and more!
The french restauration is honestly nette to me, also we had more archives obviously.
Why can't they release an American region dvd for this milestone? You know, so we can actually watch this milestone?
review the new one
Please re-release this in America
Every other film ever made seems to suck.... once you've seen Abel Gance's Napoleon.
as a french dude it is nice to sea a anglo saxon giving crédits to our patrimoine (for once since most despise us it seems sometimes), but even then, i think it’s a pretty audacieux thing you just wrote friendo :)
