What I noticed is that the original cast was chosen not only by their amazing talent but by the fact that they either are Colombian or are descendants of Colombians, representing the Colombian community in a movie set in Colombia. Luis Fonsi is Puerto Rican, Becky G has Mexican roots and Megan is completely gringa. They are all talented, but.... Why did the Academy did this?

All voice actors from the movie were there!! What the longer comment stated about having bigger celebrities perform (for whatever reason) is most likely why they did this. Even though the song reached #1 because of the voice actors. It would’ve had a better reception had they just done the original song!!! And the fact that the actual cast were pushed to the back was so upsetting
funny thing is that the performers (except megan) aren’t even that famous. no hate but I don’t know any of them ans the original encanti voices would have been more known to most people

@@beingbeckeroni Camilo's VA was on the red carpet! That's the part that does not make sense. Getting the cast there was not the problem. They felt the need to add more "popular" artists for clicks even though the song went #1 with just the talented cast.
The singers were Luis Fonsi (the one from despacito) and Becky G, both super famous singers in latin america, but I agree, the big question all the time was WHY?!

it was confirmed by lin-manuel miranda’s dad that he had no involvement in this and you can tell lol everyone wanted to hear the original song with the original singers but they just had to make it about themselves (the lyrics about being at the oscars and whatever). it would’ve been a great opportunity to have a musical theatre performance with the actual cast singing the real lyrics and the FULL SONG.

They could’ve made this a literal broadway performance by using the voice actors just like they did with group number “Belle” from beauty in the beast in the 1992 Oscars so sad we didn’t get to see all of them they were really pitching this song too
This was my first time seeing this performance and like you said it wasn’t bad. It was just put together so chaotically, I wish that they would've done the actual song.

@@nthuthukomdluli1052 I doubt that, did you see how Mauro Castillo was dancing? Pretty much all of the cast members up there are performers and they seemed pretty confident and relaxed during their parts so I don't think they were nervous.

All valid points being made honeslty, I was obsessed with the original soundtrack and im so sad it wasn't portrayed fairly 😢 the music itself is amazing if it was a different song being sung but they kind of butchered it. Not trying to be mean I just appreciate music in general I've been in choir since elementary school and I've been out of school for 5 years now, just love love finding new music and some recreations but this just wasn't it.

ROFLMAO!!!!! Your intro- Hilarious. Abuela is in Columbia, Lin is at the hotel, his wife tested positive for covid that morning. Lin was going to be singing. Mirabel was there, as were Dolores, BRUNO, and Isa . The academy got nervous about this song not being nominated so made space for it. Kids did stay up and saw , well, we know what they saw.

This was chaotic for all the wrong reasons. We wanted the originals to perform this, I don’t give a heck about the rest. This is a perfect example of the negative aspects of the music industry: they just want to make money by adding irrelevant famous artists rather than give an authentic performance.
Just for the record, ALL THE VOICE ACTORS from Colombia were there at the oscars, they dindn´t let them sing the original one as in the movie because they´re not "well known"

I found out that the voice actress for Maribel was pregnant, almost in labor with her baby in the making of Encanto, expecting a miracle, Lin Manuel said, he also didn't want her to push herself to continue, but she wanted to, and she nailed it flawlessly, Stephanie is very awesome. And then heard that Lin Manuel, on twitter that he can't go to the Oscars, his wife was tested positive for covid 19. I think that's why the performance went differently.

I wish the cast did the full performance and the original version as it should be, but well, it's the Oscars and they wanted to make it Oscar-centric at the expense of not doing the song any justice. Also don't like the way that the Encanto cast were literally behind the additional artists 😭 Like they deserved so much better and we deserve a full live performance from them.
This is exactly how I reacted when I watched the performance, and in the end I was left staring at my screen when it was done. It was so chaotic and they took out all the best parts.
I was waiting for so long, so excited for Adassa’s part as Dolores. Days became hours, minutes, seconds, and THEN.

I honestly thought that the rap was kind of "replacing" the second verse before Diane would come in with Isabela's part and then they would do the layered end all together. But that didn't happen. It just felt really detached from the original and chaotic. I would have liked it more if the cast had been more central to the performance.

The song wasn't nominated but Oscar's were like first performance of it let's change it. Lins dad said on Twitter that Lin didn't write the new lyrics & that the academy organised the performance which makes sense. I was wanting the whole voice/vocal cast but they only got like 50 seconds
They should do opened the Oscar's with it if they wanted to change the lyrics to Oscar's etc

This was like a CZcams edit (feat. Whatever artist yk) but make it a big performance. I do think the stage is fire but not if it's the only Oscar performance for We don't talk about Bruno. If we had BOTH I'd really enjoy it. But WDTAB didn't need any fancy remixing. It literally topped the chart as is.

Yeah I think my main problem with this is that in this circumstance I want to hear the actual song. Because I’m not gonna lie when Meg came out I was a little bit pumped. I thought she sounded and looked great (the zendaya part was adorable because of zendaya being zendaya)! But then when we didn’t get the rest of the song because of it I was disappointed. I wonder if part of the reason they changed it because a big part of why the song sounds so good is the sound design/mixing and that doesn’t translate as well to live performances?
