The fact that the chanting echoes the Fire Temple from OoT, combined with the first inside look you get when you enter the main hall with the fire burning in the distance brought a tear to my eye. I was almost a mess when the boss revealed itself, It's like that one particular boss came back for revenge thousands of years later.
My enemy, my old friend...
Had a similar experience, did this dungeon 3rd and my mind was just constantly exploding as I approached/entered the fire temple
its a mix of fire temple from oot and goron mines from tp
I feel the boss prior to the temple opening up was more fitting, and the final boss should’ve been saved for the deku tree
It's got a few motifs form botw but what strikes me immediately is the quiet sample of the original chant from oot that got taken out, and that the echo-y sound in the back is VERY reminiscent of dodongos's cavern.
jesus i was not emotionally prepared for the Daruk Drop in phase 4 when i first heard it in the fire temple, i had to just stop and listen. 😭😭😭
Super agree with you.
Because of the darkness and suspense under the ground, in the process, I have always concentrated on the emotions that are in fear. But when I realized that "Daruk's voice" appeared in the music ... I really stopped all the action and then cried.
I love this music that blends all details that arouse our thoughts and emotions, and can't wait to find others.
Saaaame, I had to pause, and be struck with the realization that I definitely missed the champion themes of the previous dungeons I did 😅
YOOOOOOOO saaaaaaaame
That was the only reason I didn't throw my controller at my TV. lol
SAMEEE, I was just trying to finish the temple then literally had to stop everything when I heard his theme ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
It's great that it's there honestly
I love the constant Ocarina of Time references in this
And Daruk's theme in last phase
Yeah, like what
@@The_Ostrich the chanting, for one.
@@Nokyyyyy yesss
Given there's so many references to said game, they're basically hitting us over the head that oot was the first unified hyrule.
For an actual Fire dungeon, the music is _chill_ as fuck. Jazz is great, and the juxtaposition actually works really well imo.
Sinister cult funk isn’t a genre I knew I needed until now
You know a game has good music when it can bring you to tears with 4 piano notes.
Tears of the banana
All of the other champion themes are hidden in the other dungeons' themes, but in this one, it's clearer than ever...
They’re all pretty clear tbh
Sad I can't re-experience this temple for the first time. This was the first temple I found and the dawning realization that the music was evolving was so cool.
Why is nobody talking about that SICK bass and overall jazzy theme!?
To be clear, all the references and elements are amazing (OOT, Darunia, Daruk, Vah Rudania, the depths, etc.)
But besides all this cool stuff, just musically this is by far my favorite dungeon theme of TotK!!
The jazz flute!!
hard to beat wind temple tho
Dude same. It’s so sinister and funky and perfect.
Yea I agree. It's jazzy af and I'm here for it
Not sure why jazz and gorons work so well, but it does.
Bc both are chill
the walking bass slaps
Trombone is perfect for them, and is usually in jazz. That's my thoughts, at least.
i really love how 10:32 foreshadows yunobo’s theme
This dungeon theme goes so hard, the slow build up to eventually Daruk'S theme in phase 4. the dungeon was my fave in terms of enjoyment of the puzzles (no, i did not just climb around) and when Daruks theme came on i put my controller down and listened with my jaw on the floor
I absolutely loved the music right away! I knew I wasn't crazy for thinking there were references to OoT! My enjoyment of this temple was pretty low though, because I made it super easy lol. Well, I guess making shortcuts is fun in it's own way; it's really freeing. This was my 3rd temple. 1 more to go!
Just seeing the name Gorondia reminded me of Darunia, the first Goron who was the Sage of Fire in OoT. To then immediately kick this off after the name reveal further cemented the references to that game. The way the Fire Temple is built too with its high towers reminds you how the temple was in OoT as well. Then the boss being a classic Zelda boss, but with a different spin. Was a nostalgic experience for sure going through this temple!
The name of the Divine beast Vah "Rudania" is also an anagram for Darunia.
@@TyphoonArtifice that's true all the divine beasts (except Medoh..?) are named in some way after the sages in OoT. Aside from them and then Urbosa mentioning that Ganon was once a Gerudo were the only references for OoT that I can remember from BotW
@@dubstep53 Medoh is derivated from Medli who is the only sage that originated from Wind Waker since she's a Rito, curiously enough Rito in Wind Waker evolved from Zoras because of Hyrule getting flooded but Breath of the Wilds continuity made Ritos their own species
@@TyphoonArtifice now I feel silly for forgetting that since I knew the Rito first came from Wind Waker and I recognized all the references to that game with the Wind Temple and its boss 😅😅
And that's not all, in relation to the world map, this place is mostly under Darunia Lake too
It's so cool how many themes they put together here. The Fire Temple theme from OOT, Vah Rudania and Daruk's theme from BotW, the Depths and Yunobu's Theme from TotK. So cool, actually
15:21-15:27 This section has been playing in my head every now and then for the past couple weeks and I could not remember what part of the game it was from.
Here I finally stumble across it just going through the soundtrack aimlessly.
Daruk’s theme
@fspo1112 it's yunobo's theme, only the last part is the same on daruk's og theme
1:59 I knew I recognized that music effect- it plays in Dodongo’s cavern in Oot when the Lizalfos miniboss appears
Good ear!
When daruk’s theme hit, I almost cried
I lost it, I was tryna figure out something when I noticed and I was like “WAIT HOLD ON” I quote that because I literally said it out loud I was very impressed with the games skills to make most of us question what we heard 🙋♀️
i started crying when phase 4 kicks in. jesus fuck me
Me too!! 😢
Jesus what?😧
I absolutely love the dungeon music in this game, it goes from a quiet more reserved few instrument tune, but slowly grows in intensity as you get more and more terminals as the stakes grow bigger and you get close to the boss, this one in particular goes from a more atmospheric underground type theme to sounding like something out of Indiana Jones, to becoming an incredible orchestral marvel of a track that I was absolutely jamming to when I was going through this dungeon, and of course at the end there's only one thing left, to find out what's been terrorizing the Goron area as the music takes on the depths atmosphere and becomes unsettling. Absolutely phenomenal
This is 100% the best dungeon theme in the game. As soon as i heard the chanting, I knew they were calling back to the OG OOT Fire temple theme, and I was excited for what they were going to do with this one. Hearing the lietmotif for vah rudania had me hooeful. This was my last dungeon so I already knew they tended to mix in the divine beast thene and one of the race's main motifs so i was hopeful for Daruk's theme but I also knew it could be anything goron related. But then i got the fourth terminal activated, and there it was, my favourite song from Breath of the Wild, in all triumph and somber, mixed with Vah Rudania, mixed with Ocarina of time. It was unmatched.
Those robotic noises in the 3rd and 4th phases are from the vah rudania dungeon theme! God I love all the callbacks in this theme
Best dungeon in the game, only further complimented by a great soundtrack with subtle references that still find a way to make themselves unique in a thematically fitting melody! Nintendo R&D1's audio team really pulled out all the stops for Tears of the Kingdom.
16:23 How does it sound emotional with just two note melody. Fav part
+ I decided to play botw after watching official trailer named 'Life in the ruins'. The emotional soundtrack and ingame was really hit me. Glad to hear it again with a great remix.
@@bgm3147The “life in ruins” trailer actually used Daruks theme, but just after the epic intro of it. Listen to daruks themes on CZcams, you’ll hear it. And 16:49 of this video, the fire temple theme, is that opening to daruks theme, which sounds awesome here
Hardest dungeon of the main 4. To navigate, I mean. Those darn rails were hard to wrap my 5 brain cells around. I mean this in the best possible way. This feels like an old school dungeon in it's sense of navigation imo
Tbh I just ascended all over the place where I could, made the temple so much easier to complete once I knew where I was supposed to be going lmao
I like how early on, you hear little bits of the vah Rudania theme. I’ve always liked that divine beast’s theme, awesome throwback. And then later on you hear more, I believe specifically when you first get in and before you activate a terminal
I really enjoyed my time with this temple, the music of this dungeon keeps getting stuck in my head periodically ever since I beat it. The throwback with the fire temple music from OoT was fantastic!! And the last phase in the theme is so heart pumping good!! That progressive music is still an awesome touch!! The only thing I hate is when you beaten the temples you can’t re-experience your first impression again.
This is a staggering work of contextual genius, but one that can only fully reveal itself to those with years of franchise history and nostalgia. For that reason I feel that the totality of the Spirit Temple music (which starts with the thunderhead isles theme and goes on quite the journey) is more successful at spanning an impressively wide range and certainly hit me a bit harder
I nearly cried when I noticed what phase four was. Now I really want to know if it’s the same for the other temples!
It is!
I heard bits of Urbosa's theme in the Thunder Temple. It brought much euphoria to my ears
it is.
You can hear the oot fire temple chanting and vah rudania’s sound too, very cool
10:34 Sample from Yunobo's theme in the piano
I love the sound design of this theme. It's pretty blurry, muffled, very (too) bassy, with almost no highs (like there is a steep low pass filter, more especially on the piano accents), very phagocyted sound. There's a trap effect, a « You'll never escape this place ». By the way, there's a big delay applied on most sounds
I love the phase this song goes through as you progress... I love each temple but especially this one. Best Zelda
Love that reference to Daruk's theme in Phase 4 ❤
The way the music intensified after unlocking every hook 😮💨 so sick
Love the LTTP dungeon trumpets
Knew i wasn't the only one who picked up on that
although it's not my most fav dungeon, but when the Daruk's theme got kicking in:
Honestly, Nintendo has balls for referencing the original chants from OoT's Fire Temple, considering they censored them in the original version of that game. I had the original gold cartridge as a hand-me-down and loved hearing those chants, they were so creepy but added so much to the atmosphere, and knowing they were based off real Muslim verses gave them so much weight. Hearing what sounds to be a very slight quote of those chants in this game gave me instant chills, knowing their original inspiration.
Me too! To bring back a deliberate reference--a motif that occurs a lot in this theme no less!-- that was REMOVED from it's original game is just. Wow
I have got lost in this temple.
But hey, at least I could hear the music in all glory!
Had to force myself to finish the temple because I didn't want the soundtrack to stop.
I cannot express enough how much I love just how full-on 60s this theme goes.
This ost is my favorite, i like the references. It was actually fun climbing around the temple. Im still playing it, alot to explore.
the music and overall atmosphere in this temple were so good I could literally smell the embers
This is absolutely the best dungeon in the game. The lore behind it and the atmosphere, along with the incredible music gave me goosebumps the entire time. I had no spoilers for the dungeon, so when I found it, I was amazed. Anyone who thinks that the Lightning Temple or Water Temple are better than this are straight crazy.
I liked the Lightning Temple more because of the boss, but when done intentionally, i think the Fire Temple is really sick
I’m so happy that everyone seems to have different opinions on each Temple in totk. I think that they were all amazing in different ways, and the fire temple just kills it with the atmosphere.
This place had serious LTTP Turtle Rock vibes. The distant glowing lava, the darkness, and minecarts replacing those Staff tram platforms.
God damn I’ve come back to this so many times. The game has a captivating soundtrack as is, but this is something diff ….. unbelievable groove and interplay between every single part. By far my favorite track in the game
I remember when I was doing the temple legitimately by solving the puzzles while also hearing this was one of the best experiences in any Zelda game that I have played. For a massive temple like this, definitely my favorite in the entire game. 14:47 got me emotional when this music came in
So ok. Everyone noticed the Ocarina of Time references but didn't anyone notice the Windwaker references? The slow Eeeeeeee and the "Ganon" themed piano from Ganon's castle in the Windwaker?
I remember when I first started playing this dungeon and heard the chanting: a subtle homage to the original Fire Temple. It's such a wonderful little hidden detail!!
Brought to you by OOT Fire Temple, Daruk, and the SNES Turtle Rock.
I keep kicking myself for this but I cheesed the hell outta this temple. Seeing the map and the overall sheer size of this place I was too overwhelmed. 3 stamina wheels saved me a lot of time.
Dude same. I don't care, it was fun as hell. I literally thought to myself, "am I cheesing this right now?" I definitely did not do it as intended, but that's the beauty of this game.
Heh heh, I did my best to not cheese anything on my first playthrough. Sometimes just figuring out what the "intended" solution is instead of just "any" solution is the challenge lol
Same
Great theme, one of the more creative dungeons in the game
The 4th phase is great
Especially daruks theme
uhh. why is everyone saying this? which one is phase 4? the ost doesnt say for any of them.
@@tipsy634 After 4 terminals, you hear daruks theme, attack on vah rudania and jazz music
Yeah, I literally had to stop and listen to make sure that it wasn't me imagining things. Daruk's Theme is my favourite out of all of the Botw champion themes.
i swear i was losing my mind hearing the OOT chanting from the fire temple when playing through this
phase 2 reminds me so much of the fire temple in oot
After doing the wind temple I knew the temples were going to reuse the champions and divine beast themes so I was excited to hear what the fire temple was going to sound like but I was not ready when I heard the beginning of Daruk's theme in phase 4😭 imo Daruk has always had the most uplifting theme out of all the champions, and hearing his theme just made it feel like even though he's been put to rest since BOTW he's still cheering on Link and Yunobo!
4:47 do you hear it?
Ill always remember dropping things on top of Yunobo to send him ragdolling
1st dungeon I did , loved the atmosphere but Yunobo kept shoving me into the lava so I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I could've but I will return to the depths and just vibe down there later.
out-of all temples in the game, this one has the best music to me. especially in phase 4
Fire Temple Expectations: Donkey Kong Country minecart exhibition.
Fire Temple Reality: *Plays Spider-Man theme*
Well... you got both
I was streaming the game online on Twitch, and I have the game volume lowered to not be picked up by the microphone, but when my ears picked up the sound of the 4th phase and the semblance to Daruk's theme, I literally stopped to listen, and cheered with all my might. Out of all the champions from BOTW, Daruk was my most favorite. It really hit me right in the feels 🥲
You don’t use headphones? I’d definitely be using headphones my first time playing, especially a game like this where it feels like the sound effects drown out the music a lot
I can hear Vah Rudania's theme in this.
I love all the themes from the Fire Temple and i know that its heartening back to the OG temple. However, the chanting in this theme sounds more like and gives me heavy Halo theme vibes. I was expecting to run into Master Chief or the Covenant somewhere down there lol!
By far my favorite Temple Music
Someone hear the Vah Rudania Scream to? or, it is only me?
I almost hear it, but it sounds slightly different from Rudania's cry.
Yes!! I was looking for this comment
18:25 very specifically reminds me of part of “castle bleck” from super paper Mario
Incredible sound design, especially after 15:37
I get the feeling this Fire Temple that was once previoisly cleansed, has become infested once again.
Love the divine beast themes and the champion theme in the temples
For some reason the baseline ambient music as I was working through the temple reminded me of the Sierra Madre from Fallout New Vegas.
I was one of the people who were very disappointed by totk, however the fire temple genuinely surprised me, my favorite dungeon the game by a huge margin, although I did have to force myself not to use my Zonai capsules to not immediately break the dungeon. Everything else however, I loved. The music, the puzzles, the scenery, definitely top tier imo.
Zelda the type of game that make a dude walk around chanting in the grocery store
Timestamps?
Honestly this is my favourite temple (although colgera is my favourite boss and theme)
This temple frustrated me to no end, but at least the chill jazz was a vibe.
The chanting reminds me of Welsh miners choirs which is very fitting.
Never thought I be back to that Temple. Least Volvagia wasn’t there.
You are missing the first phase. The one when you enter the temple.
Is it one of the separate videos?
@@VivisRareVGM Yes I just found it on your (Phase 1) (Variation) just caught me off guard it wasn't included here. Thanks.
Hmm. No problem. I should probably include it.
@@VivisRareVGM Ok we have phase 1 at first, then the entry phase at 3:15 and at 6:28 phase 1 again :D
@@Critaa They are different rip files, so maybe a variation?
0:02 IS THAT VAH RUDANIAS SCREECH?
i thought so too!
i hear it, sounds like the prowler’s theme too. love that
Seems more like a bell gong. Which makes sense
You think the OoT Fire Temple is also Gorondia?
Not likely. I mean it is in the same place but there really isn't any design resemblance aside from that. It's been tens of thousands of years. It's likely the Goron's just built a new civilization in the same place.
parts of this sound like quincy jones on a bad trip
I knew I wasnt going crazy hearing Oot's Fire temple
Best dungeon theme in TOTK!!!
Oot chants!
Terranigma's Underground dungeon vibes in this theme.
0:27 like every time gets me 😂
My favorite part is actually the second part after you get the first gong
Phase 4 reminds me of John Williams' hurricane theme from Jurassic Park.
We makin it out of death mountain with this one, goro
I'd forgive someone if they thought this was from metroid
3:15 What is that instrument or sound? I've heard it a lot lately and have begun to get curious
Those are just heavily distorted vocals
Pretty sure it's a gong being played with a bow
I like the sharp trumpets
6:29 - 13:09 sounds as if Björk would've produced it.
You mixed Phases 1 and 2
you didn't include Phase 1
Sounds like a drumless Richardo Villalobos-goes-gregorian-chants thing at first and then goes for Lustmord all of a sudden.
love it
Que nostalgia😊❤
Dungeon jazz goro
