Colgera is the perfect example that an easy boss ≠ a bad boss
I may not have struggled, but the music and atmosphere made it arguably the most enjoyable fight in the game next to the final boss
carried by music and scene setting. would have been 100% cooler if you were forced to shoot from below it for some phases, and if the slow motion bow mechanic was disabled for the fight. actually needing to use the non glide fall properly for once. would have been sick
When I first fought Colgera I found them to be the hardest boss in the game due to lack of preparation and experience. Had no idea you could dive bomb the ice plates, had to use arrows and low damage bows only (needed 5 shots to shatter the ice), and ran out of cold protection food so I ate through 20 meals to offset the damage.
@@komali2 forcing the player to shoot in the air without bullet time is a terrible idea
@@gabrieljohnson6304 No, because this boss can be beat without shooting it at all. The shooting trivializes the boss even further and reduces the spectacle. An alternative would be to make it immune to arrows entirely
@@dragoxphere3341 I am aware, I was just addressing the guy saying the boss should force the players to use the bow without bullet time.
I feel like the little flute carrying the whole orchestra represents that Tulin is just a child but is the sage of wind
The second part with the flute solo I just pictured Tulin belting out a battle CAAAAAAW
Oh that's absolutely Tuilin and it's fantastic
I'm pretty sure the flute in specific is a shinobue (which is a traditional Japanese flute made from bamboo)
If you want to hear the instrument in another piece of music, there is Cursed Shinshu Field from Okami which features it as well
@@gamingdragon2361 I was aware by the sound that it was some kind of wood flute and was curious exactly what it was so thanks for telling me!
@@Quantum0388 I think some of the lower end might be covered by a shakuhachi or even hocchiku (essentially lower range flutes) just because of some of the lower notes hit but Im no expert on Japanese instruments lmao
dragon roost island really made me tear up while playing im not gonna lie
Same here. And fuck, giving this thing the old Rito bomb Arrow treatment with thar is haaard.
I haven't even beaten windwaker and I cried
bro I'm full on SOBBING right now
Um actually 🤓🤓🤓 the dragon roost theme has pauses at certain parts of that tune but the botw one has notes there to its actually the rito village theme from breath of the wild

This entire boss gave me goosebumps the entire time! I may not have struggled to take it down, but DAMN IT DID IT MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A HERO!!!
That’s something i love about this fight it makes you feel empowered like this giant monster is no match for link even at his weakest.
It's like I was slaying a god or something. So epic
Fighting Colgera with no arrows while wearing the full wingsuit is one of the best experiences I've ever had gaming. I felt like Superman fighting a kaiju and it was SO DAMN COOL.
I did the same thing! Was more fun without the arrows
Did you know you can *dive* straight through his weak points?
@@VirtuaMaster wait you can use arrow?
@@ZeedwareView Nah, why use arrows when you can BECOME the arrow
I apparently am weird and never thought to use my arrows against Colgera. The very first thought that took over was "dive through him". I love this game.
Me too
I used my arrows until I ran out so instead of dive bombing it, I would jump attack into each of its weak spots.
It didn't even occur to me that you could dive right through the circles until I saw someone's Let's Play doing this boss.
I used my arrows with fire fruit.
Literally didn’t even occur to me to use my arrows and I’m so thankful for it
The dragon roost part of the song gives me chills
The entire song gives me chills
It makes me cry
Wow I'm literally tearing up because I didn't get to hear the 6:00 drop because I beat this boss too fast... My jaw literally dropped when I heard that just now. 😭
🤦🏻♂️
Thankfully half my time was spent trying to get a good photo of the boss so when I heard that drop I almost shed a tear. I love the Dragon Roost Island theme to death and I like that they based the Rito's themes around it
@@ClipThatBro okay VIctor
@@checkm88 imagine you entrust somebody to save your village and they just start taking selfies
@@flevo *character tells you what you need to do to damage the boss*
"Shut UP I'm trying to get a good picture"
The intensity of this theme reminds me of Skyward Sword boss themes, the wind in the background is such an amazing touch, almost reminds me of the SS windfish. The wind waker elements are undeniable. The flute being the symbol of Tulin being a child sage. Everything about this has me SOBBINGGGGGG
I love that you can hear the progression of the battle where the boss' dark gloomy theme starts off strong then fades to the hero's part of the song as Link starts winning more and more. Absolutely beautiful composition
The whole build up had my heart in a knot, rising through the clouds surrounded by air ships in the eye of the storm. The score makes you feel like you're soaring, higher and higher like a Rito. And then at the plateau the boss battle theme hits. The entire song makes you feel like you're in flight, an ode to the proud Rito people you're trying to protect. Then, at the peak of it all, the climactic moment, Dragon Roost hits like a truck, evoking memories of Windwaker and how far we've come. Needless to say, I screamed and tried to aim my sky dive through tears of sheer nostalgia. It was hard lol
The Dragon Roost part just made me nostalgic for a game I’ve never played.
This boss, this music, the (hopefully) early game ascent to the temple without using overpowered zonai devices... None of the other areas even came close to how amazing this one felt. They weren't *bad* by any means, they just never reached the incredibly high bar the Rito arc set.
Wind temple was my first temple fairly early game. It got me SO HYPED for the rest of the game and other temples!! Fire and Water were very disappointing. Lightning was very good although not at the same tier as Wind. The only fight that was on par to that epic emotional high of Wind temple was the final stage of the Ganon fight. I feel like the same team must have worked on Wind and Ganon, while a different team worked on Fire and Water.
@@missbeansngl water was the most disappointing
With no zonai devices the ascent felt huge. It just kept going up and up.
THE RITO MUSIC DROP DID NOT NEED TO HIT THAT HARD!! I love this so much, they did such an amazing job with this one. The other 3 boss fights werent nearly as memorable for me
I love the flute symbolism alluding to the young rito warrior, then the rito music symbolizing the whole rito supporting tulin and link
The rito, any game that they actually get music, have the most amazing tunes.
Dragon Roost Island
Revali's Theme, specifically from the champions ballad, when Kass plays it
And now THIS. Boss Music that makes you feel like a boss.
@@TelluriumRobotics Attack Divine Beast Vah Medoh hit hard as well
6:03 When the Rito Village theme comes in, I can’t help but think that the fate of the Rito people rest on the shoulders Tulin (yes Link is also there but lemme have this). Tulin is only a child, and must bear the weight of his people counting on him. If he fails, his village perishes
Also wind waker
i love how all the bosses have the drums in the beginning and have the creepy backwards music from beneath hyrule castle playing in their songs somewhere.
The way they carefully interweaved a reworked version of WW's Molgera theme, Dragon Roost Island's theme, Revali's theme, Assault on Vah Medoh, and the Wind Temple's lietmotif.
Just... so perfect.
You are a national hero for putting this in correct order
This is the truth
It's been so long since I played Wind Waker, that when listening to this the first time in game it was driving me crazy why it sounded so familiar. I chalked it up to the riff being just a vague "zelda theme" that's used a lot like the main Zelda Theme that plays when riding across Hyrule Fields. I love that I now can place exactly where it came from.
Wind Waker was my first experience with Zelda, and also a really formative game for me as a kid, so it makes sense that this riff was so firmly lodged in my brain even if I couldn't place exactly where it came from.
It’s always interesting to farm a collera in the depths for a strong material, and especially this one because you don’t need to use your weapons against him. Link is the weapon himself
A collera? Reminds me of a disease 😄
@@VivisRareVGM colgera* sorry it’s my corrector
@@flodthelunatic5678 I know, no worries. :D
This song is a mashup of WW Molgera, TP Blizzetta, WW/BotW Rito theme, and small bits of distortion from the creeping Ganondorf music in the opening segments of TotK
Oh snap, didn't catch the Blizzetta motif until I read this.
@@dexmike22 I still have trouble catching it D:
The "creeping Ganondorf music in the opening segments" is actually motif of the Zonai! In the beginning it's creepy because it's an unknown alien sound, but for the rest of the game it doesn't happen in creepy situations!
@@dexmike22 it shows up in the Wind temple theme and the approach to the wind temple too! I love how they meshed so many themes
Where is molgera and Blizzetta exactly? I’ve been listening to this and I can’t recognize it. Is it kinda really subtle, or sped up compared to the originals? I usually have a good ear for this, and I love finding it, but I’m not hearing those two
Amazing. The best track in the game by FAR. Also, thank you for putting in order.
I'm so glad that I tackled this boss on my first playthrough and discovered this absolutely epic boss theme. I love it so much!
I absolutely love this boss fight. The music is incredible, building triumphantly until the dread of phase 2a, then building again as you start to chip away at it again, peaking in 2c. It's just incredible. Not only that, but it is so fun to fly around, diving through the weak points. It feels so good every time one shatters.
Loved the entire temple and this was such a climactic fight. Easy for sure but so frikkin cool. And the score in that first stage is just PERFECT.
Whoever is playing the flute is killing it
okay but like this gave me actual goosebumps and genuinely felt cold while fighting the colgera. and the rito village section at 6:03 is so good
While the difficulty of a boss fight is important, I think something that is arguably more important than even difficulty is PRESENTATION. This could mean a variaty of things; music, boss design (both art design and mechanics), flashing lights, location, stakes, ect.
Colgera sits snugly into this category. An objectively easy boss, but you learn about the thin ice by running around and exploring the Rito area, and you learn about Tulin’s ability all throughout the story section, so seeing Colgera having that thin ice under its spikes queues you in on what you have to do.
Couple this with a BANGER soundtrack and you fighting this thing in arial combat above a sky ship in a blizzard, and you got yourself a recipie for a pretty memorable, and awesome boss encounter. Much like Colgera’s sandy brother, Molgera did in Wind Waker. Fitting, since the Colgera theme features the Dragon Roost moteif.
"your a villain alright, just not a super villain"
"What's the difference?"
"PRESENTATION"
I love how it sounds so discordant right at the end of 2B, but then we get to the absolute masterpiece of 2C. If the Triforce gave me one wish, it would be for nintendo never to pull this video down.
This boss is so easy I don't have chance to listen to this absolute banger in full. Nice one.
I think the way the flute carries the whole melody kind of represents how Tulin carries my stupid ass through this whole game. Like how he saved me from getting KOed by a Red Moblin.
tulin with the great eagle bow is a murder machine
I like using tulin's ability as a cc effect against small enemies
having all of them fight together alongside you is so much fun. finally, you can get proper teamfights in zelda
First Major Drop is at 6:00
15:35 Goosebumps!!!
finally, a in-ordered Colgera theme
yet no intro theme :((
I feel like they knew both new and returning players would go to Rito first bc the game advices you to go there first (for the new players) and returning players will remember that Revali's Gale is one of the most useful abilities in BOTW hoping to get an equally useful ability by going to Rito first in TOTK
Yes, I remembered thinking about “are we gonna hear about the Champions again” while approaching the village, but then we never heard mention of Revali and I got confused. He was revered as a hero of the Rito, a pilot of a Divine Beast, and one of Zelda’s self-appointed Champions, so I find it weird how the Rito have completely stopped talking about him.
@@Sentinel07 what you said not only applies to Revali but also to the other champions to except for Mipha since the Zoras has a statue of her.
@@joeyreidelbach5509and Daruk with the Mount Rushmore tribute
I only went to the Rito first because that's where I went first in my very first BotW playthrough in 2017
Well, the Gerudo or at the very least Riju still honor Urbosa. When she needs to find courage or strength, she ask for her great ancestor to share her own with her.
The fact they got the Dragon Roost theme, mixed it with the Molgera fight music, made it grander, bigger.
This will be laser etched in the minds of lots of people, me included. Because BotW's soundtrack was so understated, i didn't expect this at all.
Help me. Where's the chugga?
When I was playing and I heard the dragon roost theme for the first time I literally lost it. It was right then and there that I fell in love with this game.
I got goosebumps from this boss and not just from the trypophobia.
you must have had a terrible time with queen gibdo and the gibdo hives
@@gargles5270 Oh yeah, they were terrible. much worse than this.
You have it bad. I get set off by wasp hives and lotus seed pods but not by giant round holes like this. They need to be clustered for me. I just … don't look at the opening hives.
@@WingedWithFireyMana for me the holes have to be perfectly round in clusters or on a body in order to freak me out. I think what made this a problem for me was the fact that it was a moving creature with perfectly round holes on it. But the Gibdo nests are far FAR worse IMO.
@@UchaNekome gods, they're terrible
This music, in particular, really feels like it is from Hyrule Warriors AoC, these instruments, the rhythm, the melody..., and, especially, the drops
Wait i dont remember it being this damn hard of a banger, holy hell.
Phase 1C is my favourite when the main Dragon Roost melody just starts blaring out via horns.

@@factorem9327 Much appreciated 👍
You can actually rebattle all the Temple Bosses in the depths except for the Seized Construct and I believe Queen Gibdo (I really don't know about that one, if it is down there then I haven't found it yet) and they use the same theme. But I still wholeheartedly agree with this because Colgera just doesn't feel the same without the Stormwind Ark backdrop. I'm probably gonna keep one of my alt profiles in a save right before battling it in the Wind Temple so that I can properly relive the sheer spectacle.
Can we talk about how fire 15:41 is? But it’s so short😔
Okay I'm so pissed I didn't hear half of this cause I just shot its stomach each time.
I was fucking terrified bc my acrophobia actually translates in this game (weeeee), but the music was so awesome it really took my mind out of it and I really enjoyed this boss. Glad I'm archer main in this opus for some reason lol
As a fellow sufferer of acrophobia, I feel this! The ascent up to the temple had me sweating bullets. Took me probably 4 real life hours. Had to keep stopping to take breaks. Once I was on the temple ship I was fine except for the bits where I had to float down into the holes in the sides of the ship (😭), and the boss fight was okay because I felt safe with the constant updrafts and replenishing stamina wheel. Sky islands in general gave me a hard time in this game. I was also very disappointed that the water temple was not you know, in the water, but instead triggering my acrophobia again. 😑
From a nostalgic point of view, This is the best boss theme in a game. But if you count in overall composition, this may be an unpopular opinion, Queen Gibdo is the best.
Gonna counter you with a cold take here *kiddo* but clearly Hestu’s dance blows everything Zelda out of the water from any perspective.
Colgera has my favorite soundtrack, but the Queen Gibdo has my favorite boss design/atmosphere, and the tense music is really cool when the hordes of gibdos and moth gibdos start crawling from the hives, so I do partially agree with you, Queen Gibdo is really cool

I like to think the flute is being played by the hero of spirits, who is being conducted by the hero of winds.
i had so much fun fighting this boss!
At 15:41 I can imagine someone like Teba or Tulin or Harth or one of the other Rito warriors (side note: Revali isn’t mentioned at all which is weird) saying smth like “you aren’t alone, Link”, or Zelda’s quote from the end of botw: “courage need not be remembered, for it is never forgotten”
Thinking the saaame exact thing about Revali. Yeah he was a bit of a jerk but you can’t deny his contribution to the first attempt at defeating Ganon. Also his ability is arguably better than Tulin’s
Almost nothing from BotW is mentioned from what I've seen, no one talks about what they did with the Guardians or Divine Beasts, the only champion that gets mentioned to my knowledge is Mipha because of the court on Shatterback Point, Riju's lighting strikes are completely separate from Urbosa's Fury apparently, same with Tulin's gusts having nothing to do with Revali's Gale, hell, YUNOBO DOESN'T USE DARUK'S PROTECTION EVEN ONCE, almost no one brings up the great calamity which in TotK was only like 6 years ago. The least they could've done for the Champions (outside of "Hey, just so you know, we moved Mipha's statue.") would be that you could go have a special interaction with their spirit where their Beast stationed for the doom laser in BotW once you find the corresponding Divine Beast Helm and have at least one copy of their equipment in your inventory.
In phase 1C does no one notice that it is a sped up version of Molgera's theme? I found that amazing. It is a little different but it sounds awesome.
i noticed it and i was trying to remember what theme was it and i saw your comment and thank you for reminding me
This shit is literally giving me chills
Thank you so much good sir
Phase 2 is just everything a half step higher? That is awesome though!!!
Colgera and Marbled Gohma themes are my favourites in this game (Excluding Ganondorf's theme)
The Dragon Roost segment is cool and all, but I find the original parts of the music really tense yet beautiful.

The twinkling piano is still just beautiful
It's just a shame the boss is so easy that there's a good shot you won't even make it to the best parts of the music.

this was an easy boss but the music hits hard
also i wish Tulin's ability actually helped in this boss i mean yeah i use the gust all the time but i did all the work
Ok so I didn't think to dive through him (Didn't have Unfreeze if that was necessary for it. Is it? I'm not sure), I just went underneath and shot him with arrows. However, I don't regret it because the music slayed.
No, you don't need unfreeze, just dive.
19 minutes, all for a boss I killed in 9

Best song in the game.
I think it is a contrast of a major song with a minor theme and it makes you miss battling congera.
It is true
Sorry about the last word. I meant colgera
i will say with how easy this boss was, it took some points off for me, the boss fight ended so quickly that i barely even had a chance to hear the music. it took me lisening to it later to truly enjoy it. they shouldve gave colgeras weak spots a health bar rather than being a one hit break.
My one singular problem with this boss is that it's not possible to put an image of it in the Hyrule Compendium.
If I'm understanding you correctly then you can - possible spoilers here depending on how much you've played, but you can rematch the boss at a later point and get a picture of it then if you hadn't already.
@@drhodesmumby Thanks! I'll try it out
