    Zeppelin is the best. My favorite song is When the Levee Breaks. It's super hypnotic and no matter how many times I listen to it I can never get sick of it, but honestly that's true of so many of their songs. Just jump in and start listening to stuff. Can't go wrong with Zep.

  • @abourre
    @abourre Před rokem +12

    This was recorded in 1969, when Plant was either 20 or 21. He had no formal musical training; he'd gone to school to be an accountant. In 1968 he was still working on a road crew laying tarmac during the day and playing in bands on the side. His voice just... did that. How Many More Times probably has his best single held note, although I really like In My Time of Dying; it's the band's longest song, but he doesn't really get a lot of time to rest in it, and he gives a strong performance throughout.

    "Kashmere" is another Led Zep song you need to experience. It is as intense as "Whole Lotta Love", but in a way completely the opposite direction. While WLL is like a rocket, full of thrust and raw power, breaking every strain, Kashmere is heavy, pulsating agony; a cage around your head that is slowly but steadily constraining your conscience.
    In the end, Led Zep might all be about intensity, but it is truly about precision. Everybody can scream and shout, everybody can make a guitar whine and beg for mercy. But very few can SING a scream, or let their guitar PERFORM a whine. Led Zep can even let the metrum of the song wander totally out of synch, only to suddenly be on spot again and you realize THEY NEVER EVEN LEFT the metrum, they just played your brain and send you down the error lane... (Hence why so many covers totally botch rhe guitar solo in "Stairway To Heaven". You need to be a polyrythmic ace to get that this is just to be played straight on beat.) "Kashmere" is another example of rythmic mastery. Do it, you will love it! 🎶🎵

    Yes, you need to hear more Led Zeppelin! You could go through the entire discography, starting with the first album... to experience their massive talent and diversity, and hear everything from acoustic folk music to throw-back '50s rock and funk, to pounding heavy rock, to mystical journeys in sound and space -- there's such variety in LZ music, and not a "bad" song in the bunch! But, if that's too much for you, some highlights might include: You Shook Me, Since I've Been Loving You, Kashmir, Going To California, No Quarter, The Rain Song, The Battle Of Evermore, Gallows Pole, Achilles Last Stand, In My Time Of Dying. It's really difficult to choose just a few songs...

The studio version is also amazing, but to get the full Plant Effect, including the necessary, ahem...visuals...you need to see the live version. Also, the live version of Whole Lotta Love from that same '73 MSG set of shows is absolutely killer, especially for Jimmy Page.
    Since you love Plant's vocal range, other Zeppelin songs for you to cover are Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, How Many More Times, Dazed and Confused, Gallows Pole, and Black Dog.

    I am so enjoying Maggie's Reactions towards Led Zeppelin. There are times when she looks like a kid in a Baskin-Robbins enjoying all the different flavors Led Zeppelin has to offer. And after done with the song, she demands another, "Oh Beautiful People Give me more!" I think Maggie would really enjoy "The Battle of Evermore", and "When the Levi Breaks". Of course, when Maggie feels a bit Naughty, she can also pick "Trampled Under Foot" a tribute to Robert Johnson's "Terraplane Blues", as Robert Plant equates women's body parts and Sex with parts of a car,
    "...trouble-free transmission
    Helps your oil's flow
    Mama, let me pump your gas
    Mama, let me do it all...".
    However since Maggie is still young & innocent, this song might be a bit too much for her delicate nature.

    You gotta do "Since I've Been Loving You," Live from MSG! Kashmir is another must do. Probably their second most popular song behind Stairway. And it sounds like no other song they ever did. But I would suggest the studio version because to me, there just is not a good live version out there. The sound mix is just off on most of them. There are a couple of ok live versions but nothing great. After that, OMG, there are so many songs you could do. They are extremely diverse so some are more bluesy. Some are more rock. Some folksy. Some hippyish. Some a bit progressive and they even have a Reggae like song. LOL. They were only around for about 11 years but they only have maybe a handful of bad songs in that time and every other one is very good. Oh and you still haven't done any of their "Lord of the Rings" songs. I think they had 4. "Ramble On. Misty Mountain Hop. The Battle of Evermore and Over the Hills and Far away." Each of the songs has Lord of the Rings references in it and or themes. Robert Plant was a huge Tolkien fan.

    Great video! Enjoying your journey exploring Led Zeppelin. Back in the 80s and 90s most of the old school rock stations would have one night a week where they got "the Led out " and play a few hours of Led Zeppelin.

    You should listen to all of it. In sequence of release. The evolution of their music is an absolute adventure! All four of them are among the best ever, individually, at their craft. When you put them all together, miraculously, it became even greater than just a sum of the parts.

    Back in the 70's and 80's in the UK on a Thursday evening the BBC, used to air a programme called Top of the Pops (TOTP), and for 11 years this was the programmes intro song.

    Just a fun fact...Led Zeppelin had a reunion show with the 3 surviving members and the original drummer's son (Jason Bonham) at the O2 arena in London playing for one night. Ticket requests exceeded 20 million for that show (a record, I believe). They've got some great albums for sure, but I'm partial to the first one. Keep on keeping on, Maggie Renee! Good to see you still doing your thing!
