I've had a ton of requests asking me to do a video on what to wear and what not to do at tryouts! Here is that video!!!!! I'm super excited that so many of you will be trying out soon (if you haven't already)! I hope to bring you amazing content and teach you how to play volleyball and love it as much as I do. Would basketball shoes be okay if I’ve seen girls wear the same kind for volleyball use?
Natalie Zhou noo, I play varsity basketball and volleyball so I have separate shoes for both. Basketball shoes are not that flexible so I recommend getting some really cheap volleyball shoes since good basketball shoes are pretty expensive. I would recommend getting some Nike’s or adidas which are really cheap, you’re school team may be like mine where they give you shoes!

I have played volleyball for like 4 years and I still get hit in the face...

Another tip: Take advice from other experienced players and your coach(es) because you may just improve!

My natural reaction is to laugh when I mess up. Does that give the wrong impression? I don’t laugh when other people mess up though.

Our volleyball tryouts were just around 4 days ago, and I made it. Theres a super nice girl, lets call her Sam, who has NO skills (from never playing), but she has a remarkable attitude and helped everyone as much as she could. There was another girl, who we'll call Erin, who was a decent player but had an awful attitude and was very rude to everyone around her. Sam made the team and Erin didnt, so you definitely need to make sure that you have a great attitude!! Skills are coachable. Attitude isnt.

I know this video is old but I'm just so grateful for these tips...I used them today at t rry outs and I actually made the team...I feel a tiny sliver of it was because everyone was wearing blue,white,and black shirts but I wore a neon shirt
I feel like this helped the coaches recognize me when it was my turn to hit because I look a lot like the other girls.......Now I'm on the team and I feel like it is thanks to you r amazing channel and tips..Tysm

Do i need to wear knee pads, because I have try outs in like two hours and I don't have knee pads 😞😞 I also am worried because I can serve but the ball only makes it over the net sometimes, and I'm 5'1 so I don't think I'll make it.

I understand softball since sometimes, the jerseys given are tank tops (as a softball player myself, it's so annoying alfkjd luckily the ones I've been given for school + travel ball are regular shirts) and you can't change that, but why would someone purposely choose to wear a tank top during a sport-

im here because of haikyu i’m so inspired tbh i’m trying out next year, I’ve learned how to serve, block, spike and set just out of an anime, I have my own volleyball
So glad I found this! My first ever tryout is next week and even though I probably won't make the team (don't have much playing time/experience), I want to put my best foot forward. Thanks!
UPDATE: I didn't make the team, but the coach appreciated that I was committed and willing to learn so he offered me a position as manager. He says that if I work hard and get more time in, I'm almost sure to make the team next year!

I once had to wear Converse during one of my games because I had forgotten my other shoes and those shoes kept slipping on the court and I have learned since then to check my bag before I go to my games.

Hi, Koko! I started following you since last year and I got inspired by your vlogs. It has always been my dream since elementary to be a volleyball player but I chose to focus on academics so I gave up being an athlete. I regret that I turned down my dream. And now that I am quite old, that dream of being a volleyball player keeps coming back whenever we have sporsfest in our company. Now, I don't want to be one of the audience watching on the sidelines, I want to be a player so I decided to tryout for volleyball. It feels scary and exciting at the same time. I try to learn by watching your videos and I just want you to know that you really inspire me a lot. I'm 29 and I have lots of questions in my mind. 🤔 Isn't it too late for me to learn volleyball at this age. Can I still make it? Can I be good at this sport? And a lot more. These are some of the questions I have right now. And the only way to find out is to just do it, show up, give my best, and pray. Please continue makiny videos about volleyball. I watched this vid when I first started playing 3 years ago and made the team first try and here’s some updates and tips that I learned:

🏐hustle hustle hustle! dont slack or walk when you’re supposed to be running, dont let the ball drop in front of you, etc.
🏐always call your ball so coaches know that you’re a good communicator
🏐never stop trying even if you mess up or are struggling with something. i struggled with my serve at first and felt like giving up but I didn’t, now it’s stronger than ever :D
🏐DONT be afraid of the ball!
🏐pay attention when receiving advice from coaches and learn from them
🏐be patient: everyone starts somewhere, don’t expect to become a volleyball pro after one day
🏐most important tip: HAVE FUN! Don’t get down on yourself if you make a mistake!! If you don’t try to have fun, then trust me the sport won’t be enjoyable at all

Hi! So my tryouts are tomorrow and I am extremely nervous. I am pretty new to the sport and I can’t overhand serve very well despite me practicing. I can never time it right :’( but I don’t know If that will affect my chance to get into the JV volleyball team. Tips or suggestions would be extremely useful 🙏🙏. I used to be in a volleyball prep and I was alright at saving the ball if that helps my situation at all. I know that I am going to be practicing my serve even more though. I already have a volleyball bag with everything i need packed for tryouts but at the same time im pretty sure 25 gr6 girls are trying out for the jr girls volleyball team and im pretty sure 2 or 4 people are going to make it so the chances for me arent that high so would it feel like im pushing it too hard if i bring my volleyball bag to tryouts with everything that i might need for like a tournament?

For my school, all you need to do is sign a paper and turn it in but they will only allow so many players which is why i think my school should have tryouts for any sport(especially volleyball;-;)
