i'm going to attempt this knowing how difficult it's going to be, but i've done my fair share of work on 500s so we'll see 🤷🏽‍♂️

...so i did it, not gonna say it was easy cause it wasn't, you must be persistent and have the right tools for the job. I made it through though and man my 500 abarth pulls harder than it ever has!! PS.This man's genius by taking off the bottom motor mount to take out the alternator is the only reason i could complete this job.

Easy way? There IS NO easy way! I absolutely love my 500 (I've owned and repaired many 850's and X-1/9's in my day) but my Fiat 500 alternator replacement was the worst project I've ever tackled. Note that in all the how-to videos, the bolts and nuts are always already off or have been loosened. Actually you can spend DAYS trying to break some of them loose, and unless you have a lift to get under the car, working on your back with jack stands makes access pretty horrific and getting good leverage extremely difficult. As for that top alternator bolt, you can maybe see it or maybe actually touch it but not both! My wife with smaller hands had to do that job, took about 45 minutes to get it off and another 45 to get it back on. And then trying to angle the alternator to get it out from under and back in, jeeze! Have you ever heard the phrase "looks like two monkeys fuckin' a football." One of the other how-to bloggers has said that the 500 was designed by Satan himself. AGREED, but I still love the car. However I would seriously suggest paying a competent shop to do this PARTICULAR job if you can at all afford it!

I hear you. My dad worked for a few years at body shop that didn't have hoist and you're right some of those bolts are hell to get out. Most of the time I'll warn people if there's a bolt that is known to be ceased, but inwont show 30-40 minutes my dad heating it up and trying to get it lose with impact gun.

@@CountyAuto I referred to this and several different videos for info on the project and all were helpful to varying degrees. I appreciated the help, thanks. In this particular video, I do believe the car being worked on is maybe a European (made in Poland?) Fiat 500. Noted differences from my USA model, made in Mexico, 2013 500 Sport: Rear motor mount is COMPLETELY different and fairly confounding to take apart, so I wasn't able to so easily slide motor forward as in the video. Also, the mechanic is shown sliding that big rubber doughnut around on the axle, NOPE! mine is glued solidly to the axle shaft and NO amount of pushing, prodding or inserting screwdrivers etc. could break/cut loose that glued bond. We proudly earned our merit badges on this job, but sure hope to never need to do it again!

Thanks. Did it on Panda (pretty same as 500) and all you need is to loose engine mount (in UK drivers side) and lift engine as far as it goes, you can get alternator into place above the halfshaft - its a bit tricky but it work. The top bolt is bigger challenge 😁 mirror and small ratchet set could help. Mine 120A alternator died at approx 40k miles/5 years ☹️

You move that control arm like it wasn't seized. Show the whole process. That thing doesn't want to move AT ALL.
