It took me years to go unashamedly to Lidl and Aldi and I still felt for a while like I dont belong with my fancy clothes and car (I just got lucky in life and with my upbringing)… then I went to Netto once and instantly started to bond with the Aldi and Lidl goers…
We might not be a doctor or lawyer like those rewe goers but at least we dont fight over 1 kilo of "Putenschnitzel“ for 3€ from a dirty freezer…
@@paolakoh3472 Netto, Penny, Norma are the cheapest (and not the greatest of course ;) but enough for every day errands). Then there's Aldi and Lidl - still affordable, good quality, smaller selection. And then there's Rewe, Hit, Edeka - big supermarkets with bigger selection (you can get everything you need there), good quality, higher prices. But they also have "Eigenmarken", which means cheaper versions of many items from their own brands. Like "ja!" at Rewe for example. I personally love rewe, but also like to go to Aldi and Lidl. My nearest grocery store is a Netto, I often go there when I need 1-2 items.
You'll figure out the prices and which stores you like :)
Ps: there's also Kaufland. Kind of the not so good version of Rewe or Hit.
Lmao do people in Germany care about that? What shop one goes to? I thought they were efficient because I have seen some bring a list, take their items, struggle to be first in line at counter and pack fast and leave the shop. Who even looks at you in all of this except the cashier? Also, I have never seen anyone arguing for food in a supermarkt. But i think aldi and lidl are so good than hit!!! I also thought netto was nice when it came to like toothbrush, hair spray or some chocolates I think since it's way far. But I was shocked with prices. It's so cheap. I wish it was near university students dorms. Don't know about vegetables and fruits quality though.
In the Rewe where I work the customers look like those from Lidl or Aldi 😂😂

Only the big Edekas...there´s smaller Edekas, those are comparable to Aldi or even Lidl if you´re unlucky enough.
I like shopping at Penny :) But Lidl is cool too, especially their bakery and premium line. Our Rewe has a fresh Sushi counter, so thats pretty cool. And if I need something very specific or wanna buy meat with a high animal well-being standard, Edeka is the go to.
High animal well being does not exist when animals are eventually slaughtered.
Also, all of those terms "free range, no cage, organic, ethically raised, etc etc" are just that...marketing terms. Please research how these animals are truly raised. It's not what you are lead to believe.
Example: a company can put "free range" when 1000+ chickens are packed into a non-ventilated barn, no vet care, stepping on the decaying comrades and shit/piss as long as there is a chicken sized hole at each end they can walk out into a small enclosure. These barns are so large most never even see the ends. The exits don't even have to be cleaned at all times. They aren't frolicking in a field.

The more expensive stores have better produce/higher grade of items. NOT always the case but with produce it's usually true
The real difference is the selection. Lidl and Aldi are “discounters” meaning they buy products in bulk, so that they get them cheaper, which lowers the prices.
