This will always be one of my most favorite scenes visually with the drone activating and going through the burning curtain
It is visually stunning, as is the ejection and desert crash. The whole movie was beautiful.
Its gun ports were still hot after firing at Vika, so they burned the curtain at the two points where the guns ports touched it.

I loved this movie; those drones are absolutely terrifying. Even before you find out what's really going on they still made me feel uneasy.
The sound design to start with. Very attractive sounds. Also they feel nervous somehow, lots of hesitation and sudden movements
Absolutely. It reminds me of what Peter Jackson said about designing Shelob’s movements. He is absolutely terrified by spiders, so his VFX team got a spider from the woods and studied its behavior.
They found that what was most frightening is, they would stay perfectly still, then move extremely quickly, then stop again, attack, then move quickly.
I have to believe Joseph Kosinski was informed by that movement when he conceived of these drones.
Excellent movement, sounds and behavior. They almost have their own belligerent personalities.
Unpredictable. More sci-fi shows would benefit from this approach.
Eventually they will have the drones figured out to the point that they can be like the ones in the movie programming wise, autonomous drones already exist as well.
I loved this movie too. It has a lot of logical gaps in it, but the sentimental aspect is amazing.

That SHOT was simply epic. It was like a classic MONSTER from olden days emerging from a fiery curtain. Amazing!
Major credit should go to whoever made sure the drones had "voices". Really helped to make them as characters.

They sound stupid. It takes away from the seriousness of the scenes in my opinion.
@@GoldenTiger01 You know, I think you are right, and that works for the first part of the film. When you think Tom Cruise is part of the last vestiges of humanity, and the drones are "protecting" him, the silliness makes you think of WALL-E or Johnny 5. So the drones are "friendly" if impersonal. Which makes the reality "scarier" when they turn on Tom Cruise and Vika.
In the context of the chase here and later, yeah, I can see that. Overall benefit, in my opinion.
Vika could remember her past life just like Jack. But unlike Jack, she was with the person she always wanted, so everything was perfect for her. As soon as Jack found Julia, Vika new the fantasy was over, and would rather die, and take everyone with her, than allow Jack to be with Julia again. A true selfish person.

@@jorgevaldez2249 This. She selfishly wanted Jack, but she wasn't suicidal about it. Her face pleading with him when she realizes what she's done is always so heartbreaking - I really feel for her in that moment.

Utterly beautiful film, the sky tower set is amazing,so much better than the dark aliens on a dark space ship in dark space. The music is great too the last track on end titles is stunning.

The tech and concept of this movie really cool. Should make a series out of it
The story is too compact for a series. There's expanded lore potential and possibly pre- and post- event fan fiction but the story begins and ends with the main antagonist here.
@@zesalesjt7797 Some people online have suggested that the Tet was just a terraforming "rover" and the creators are coming to see why it blew up. Could be a way to expand the universe as you said.
@@zesalesjt7797 there are an innumerable amount of protagonists. A chronicles series would be nice.
@@Irving_teran You make a good point. What happens to the other teams when all the tech goes offline? What is the dynamics of a wife with an army of husbands? What are the physical consequences of the geoengineering processes on the Earth? Are there still signals from Titan? So, yes. There is additional source potential here. I guess I just really felt the actor's sentiment that it should be done correctly, because there is no shortish of improperly produced renditions, interpretations and *cough, cough* subversive adaptations.
Conditioning is hard to break even when you know it's conditioning.
Jack knows the Tet has been lying about everything but he still believes the warnings about the radiation zone even while the Tet is trying to kill him.
Well he couldn't be certain that the Tet isn't just protecting it's assets and marking dangerous zones, post nuclear war...
Or there is a deeper levelof unbderstanding to that danger zone.
What a scene. When the drone comes thru the sheets that’s on fire. Outstanding.
Underrated movie with a great storyline and aesthetic.
Lol why do people use this remark? This film was not underrated, just take a look at how much it took in at the box office and the user reviews still hold up to this day.
@@Hunt8rJob by definition, it means that most people didn’t recognize how good a thing really was. Its average rating is 7.0 on IMDB, which is lower than most of his movies. In my own circles, it’s scarcely mentioned, thus, in my opinion, it’s underrated.

Tom Cruise's plot armor is strong. Drone smoked Vika in a second, then slowly crept up on him and took aim, giving Julia plenty of time to take it out.
Watch again. The drone was firing. But didn’t have any ammo.

There was definitely a cinema need for a dramatic reveal of the drone, but the reason it didn't come out guns blazing could have been explained a lot better. I mean, certainly it should have come out guns blazing as soon as possible, right ?
Tom Cruise is such a trucking BOSS. He is the only one like him. And he always delivers.

Underrated movie.
"I don't want to know" perfect comment regarding everyday people.
Every house in this movie has one drone in them, its because when the clones(jack and vika clone) finds the truth, the TET will activate the drone inside the house and execute the clones.
Yep. I didnt catch onto that til my second viewing. I wondered why the Tet would have supply issues getting parts to repair the drone downstairs, but then it dawned on me that that was the Tet's excuse for keeping that drone on the premises where it could quickly wipe them both out if they got off program
The original Vicka faced death like a boss.
Love this movie! One of the best production and mecha designs.

Because "Oblivion" is cerebral in my opinion, it was the best Cruise film I saw in the 2010s.
Makes you wonder whether the TET was originally some runaway project of another humanoid species, giving that its technology looks so similar to ours and it's so adept at manipulating human feelings. Like a HAL from another world.
I always found Vika more attractive than the other one..
Makeup, form fitting dresses and high heels... Throw her in everyday clothes and bare feet and she's perfectly ordinary. That said, if I had to be around my wife wearing all that every day, sex would have to be on the menu daily. Too much stimulation there!
This was a fantastic movie.
Lucky Vika decided not to go with them both.

Vika was the perfect foil for repairman Jack in the Tet's eyes. She was in love with Jack BEFORE being cloned, but knew she'd never have him. Those unconscious thoughts and feelings persist in her clones, something we know from seeing Jack's visions of Julia.
So, given a reality where she and Jack were the "only" people on the planet, with Jack as her lover, and all she had to do to maintain that reality was keep the status quo (obey the Tet's every whim)...of course she was gonna pressure Jack into staying on program.
Left to his own devices, Jack was too prone to investigating and potentially finding out the truth. Vika was a great tool for motivating him to stay focused on their given tasks

He had been serving in the top gun troop, then he saved the world once by dying a thousand times on the beach in England, but in the end the world was destroyed by aliens.
Then it was this time that he saved the world once again just by himself and his thousand clones.
The beach wasn't in England, it was in France - pay attention

Watched this the other day on Netflix after not seeing it for a very long time. There are some real good twists
I read Tom himself learned to for this movie and is actually flying the craft in this!
It took me multiple viewings before I realized that the reason they never got the shielding for that drone was because its purpose was to kill them.
If that were solidly the case though, surely the Tet would have ensured its guns worked reliably.
Bingo! But then this specific team was always most likely to go rogue. So I'm sure speical precautions in place...
Poor Jack47 has to patrol his own HOME CITY every day. 😒 His memory was getting jolted every single shift!

My absolutely favorite movie of all time! Ex Machina a close second. I like to say the first 2 hours 4 mins and 42 seconds are my favorite parts lol. My number 1 movie for testing a home theater system, start at 8:15 until 13:15 or more and it covers all areas of audio.

That ship looks fun to fly.
