It blows my mind how anyone from any hobby would frown on these because they're essentially a well designed, pre-built, model kit (with articulation) that just needs to be tweaked with paints. Its one of the best deals I've ever seen! Note: If you don't want to do a wash, you can dry brush it and pull out the sculpt details as well. Both techniques work really good.

This is fun is why it’s cool. I have sideshow premium format stuff and other high end collections but doing things like this has been fun and a great distraction from all the negative in the world. I did the alien queen but instead of dye I used a special auto body primer for vinyl. Painted it flat black and did a silver wash.
This video has inspired me to make over the giant predator this company put out.
    Great tutorial.

Lanard Alien/Predator line feels EXACTLY like the Kenner Alien line did when I was a kid, namely the Aqua Alien and its packaging. Durability A+, packaging A+,low price A+, Sculpt B+/A-, Articulation C/B, paint D.
perfect for kids to start a collection, to army build, or just to test out customizing without going broke.

I just picked up the Alien runner set today. I'm definitely gonna try to give the alien figure a wash... probably the facehugger too. Im not a customizer by any means, but this looks easy enough. Always wanted to try my hand at it and with these costing $10, Im not too scared to give it a shot, lol. Good job explaining too! Ive seen a few others who over complicate this process. Thanks!

  • @MRaadesign

Great vid! Nice to see some love for these new Pred figures. Lanard figures have some great details. Not just these new lines, but all the way back to late 90's with their "t-crotch" figures. Tons of details that just need some paint. A little paint, some dry brushing and a wash, you can end up with some really great looking figures. I prefer to use oil based wood stain for my washes.

  • @Flanman113
    @Flanman113 Před 3 lety +4

Great video for beginning modders. A quick easy way I've found to detail my figures is adding a "mud wash" using black oil paint, it's slow drying so I paint all the limbs then wipe down with a paper towel. I also use magic erasers to take off stubborn spots.

Let's compare the NECA Predators always break almost all the time versus lanard I have not had one break on me so yeah the price difference is apples and oranges but for a quality toy I'm going to go with lonard ya neca is done a lot of predators but I feel that lanard is done a good job

  • @twentyoneplusvideo0472

I just now started to get back into collecting toys. It started when I finally decided to set up a display area for all my original Kenner Star Wars figures.
That led me down a rabbit hole of toy collecting. I also like the idea of customizing toys. I used to laugh at people that did this. Now I totally want to do this.
Funny thing is these predator figures are now around $20 at Walmart. I’m still going to pick up a few and practice my wash skills, yours looks pretty. I’d rather spend $100 on four or five figures and customize them vs. spend $30-$40 per figure.
Plus to be able to focus on something cool and a bit artistic like this would keep me off the comment sections on other sites.
    Thanks for this.

Great video my guy. I am a fan of the McFarlane line and I love to blackwash my figures. Cheap figures with a lot of detail rock. They are my favorite to collect because it's easy to customize them. Most expensive figures look "done" and sure that's fine. But customizing is way more personal and enjoyable imo.

This looks cool but I'm curious would kids still be able to play with these figures if there dyed/Painted? Cause it's a shame Lanard couldn't make it the right colors. Maybe the idea was to make it more kiddish or something not sure. But these toys are great for kids to play with instead of those really delicate figures like NECA, Hot toys, and Hiya toys well maybe Hiya toys are playable lol idk. But this is a great custom design for just collecting and making it look worth more money. I watched ur video with the Alien queen and drones it was pretty neato great work!

I wouldn't call this a wash as much as a glaze or shoe polish "wash"...way too much paint for a regular wash, needs to be a milky consistency (preferably with a flow agent) and no wiping to do a proper wash without muting the colors. It worked out well here since the base colors were so bright and it needed a glaze to tone those down. Either way, it does look much better.

Just buy the ultimate neca predators they do all the black washing for you plus you can articulate them to express different emotions. These are cool tho if you don’t have too much money to spend but neca is the way to go for realistic looking predators .. and i own a few necas and yea some joints came locked up but hot water softened them loose plus they are double jointed for bad ass poses .... add all the paint and black wash in the world but they still couldn’t compare to neca
