I started by just doing the dark washes.these alone make a world of difference as it brings out all the detail in the sculpt.then i tried dry brushing with silver for that metallic look (this is the real challenge as its so easy to overdo it) acrylic paint is easy enough to wash off with warm water so you can easily star again and just through a bit of trial and error you will eventually see great results.

Hi mate. Two other techniques I think you should try. Use graphite to add very realistic metal effects, simply sharpen a pencil onto plate and then apply the graphite to the model using your finger. Number two. Tear off a small piece of household sponge, dab onto the silver paint or any other colur you want to use to show chipping. then dab sponge onto paper towel until you start to see the effect you're looking for then apply to the figure or part. It gives a nice random effect and is much more controlable than applying with a brush...oddly.
