UPDATE: Do I still use my treadmill desk 6 months later? • Do I still use my trea...
Yup. A treadmill desk. This is my story.
It all started when we moved from downtown Toronto to the suburbs and my daily PLUMMETED. I took about 2,000 less steps per day!
I decided to try a treadmill desk to get my steps back up and documented my experience for this video.
I'm just a middle-aged guy telling a very middle-age story.
PS - My standing desk is a GeekDesk V2 but I don't believe it's for sale any longer. I got it like 10 years ago.
So it's been 6 months - do I still use my treadmill desk!?! czcams.com/users/shortsKq-LK81fvxA
Nice, 6 months 🎉 congrats
This was such a normal, reasonable, honest video. I don’t feel like I’m being sold anything or trying to be convinced of something. Very nice
I initially mistook you for a renowned CZcamsr, given the exceptional quality of your videos. They're truly impressive! Keep up the fantastic work!
Wow, thanks!
I agree 100%. He needs to keep making videos. I was super surprised he didn’t have a ton more followers
Wow I looked at the subscribe count after your comment less than 1000?!?!?
I've had the maksone treadmill for about 6 months now. In the beginning i couldnt really function while walking on it. I realized that i just had my speed set way too high. I set it to a very casual walk, and now i don't even notice walking anymore in the morning. I drink my coffee and then set up my treadmill and walk from 8-noon every day. I recommend buying indoor treadmill only shoes, so you dont ruin all your socks. I get about 7k steps on it daily =) sometimes when i do difficult tasks that require full concentration i have to stop the treadmill - you know when you have to turn down the car volume so you can see while parking ;D
That is so awesome. I'd love to get to the point of hitting 7,000 steps from the treadmill - I'm going to try your idea of really going slow. Also your analogy about turning the volume down while parking really hit home :)
dude!! you're really good at making videos. i randomly came across this when doing research on portable treadmills and i'm so glad i did, this is great. love the way this video was produced!
Thank you!! That's really encouraging to hear, I appreciate you taking the time to say so :)
lol same here, how this dude only got 200 subs haha!
agree!
Yes! Usually I'd skip the "581 subscribers" video, but I guess you have to start somewhere...and the content is really good! :) Thanks!
I agree! ☝️
I live my under desk treadmill. Mine was under $200. And has more speed then I need. In a month having it I have dropped 5lbs and walk for two 1 hour sessions a day while working. I have no issues doing email, meetings and other tasks.
hey which one are you using? I'd love to get ur recommendation.
What is the speed you walk? I also have one under my desk. 😊
What is the model?
So at the end it depends on the type of person. I get motion sickness when I read anything while I’m on a car so definitely not for me.
I take it you work from home?
What a great and honest video. Found it searching for home treadmill options, this definitely deserves more views out there.
The information that you can't code on it is everything I needed, thank you
I think it's the small text size combined with motion while walking that cause the motion sickness.
I already have the walking pad and considering to purchase the adjustable desk. But I think I'll just keep my working and walking separated. I'm also one of those who get motion sickness when reading book on the bus.
i would not rule out a under desk tread mill based on a subjective perspective. Buy it, try it out and find out what works for you.
I can code just fine while walking.
How the hell do you only 745 subs with this production quality
100% agree. This dudes production quality is nuts
Ohhhh I first thought he had +800K. After seeing your comment, I realized it was 800 LOL
@Dream-bc8el - The simple reason is in how CZcams algorithm works. He’s got amazing production quality, but I’m assuming he’s not ready to commit to publishing consistently yet. He’s done 6 or so videos and some shorts in the past year and although they are excellent, he would need to increase rate his of publishing, maintain a consistent schedule, and get more content on his channel. Also, he hasn’t narrowed down to a specific subject/niche so it may take a bit longer. Nevertheless he did gain one subscriber today ✋🏽😀
Man, you're good at making videos. Totally feel ya on the walking commute thing. Keep making more vids! They're enjoying to watch. I can totally relate to this one!
Thank you!! Really appreciate you taking the time to say so 😊
Thanks Steve, you literally answered every of my questions about treadmill in your video
I’m so glad - thanks for watching 😊😊
Great editing and vibe man =) Love the vid! Might actually get a standing desk
Good review. You made me reconsider to buy an under desk treadmill.
Thank you!
The first few weeks were rough as I managed to get thrown off a few times. I found that once I got used to walking at my desk, I was actually more zoned in when I wrote code. Part of that is the movement keeping my ADHD in check, but I honestly enjoyed it. It's a lot harder to keep at it now that I am in a hybrid working situation.
Great video! informative and honest. Hit all the points I was curious about. I thought I’d have to watch a few videos to make a decision but this one took the cake !
Simple and direct message. I like it. Cool treadmill
im starting my office work treadmill journey myself...the gear should be here Sunday...working from home in an area with alot of rain has been havoc....you're video editing/shot placement skills are top notch..easily this could be a Netflix original haha
That’s awesome, best of luck!!
You should make a part 2 of this vid.... would love to know more about how to be more physically active.
I initially thought I needed one, but I forgot I had a stationary cardio bike in my garage, and surprisingly, it fits under my standing desk. I don't know how much better this is instead of the walking pad, but since I am simply sitting down, it makes it easier to spend more time on it. I do have to agree on the tasks you can realistically do while doing some sort of movement. I think it just comes down to how much you have to concentrate on that task.
I mostly use mine when I feel like watching youtube haha.
That's so interesting. A friend of mine also swears by his stationary bike. I'll have to try one. If I could do it without getting nauseous than that would be a big win!
great video, thanks for making it!
I'm so excited to get mine now that I've seen your video on it!
Nice!! Hope you love it!
I am amazed with the quality of production also equally shocked with the subscriber count, you deserve more, so from a fellow Torontonian you got a new subscriber.
very well produced, don't stop
wow the quality of this video is very impressive. Keep it up, I see the vision your trying to build.
Thank you!! That’s really encouraging to hear 🙏
Love this video!! Great editing and content ❤
Thank you so much!!
wonderful video! Insane quality
We need a 2-months review now!
You are a GREAT storyteller!
Thank you! 😊
Thanks for the video, straight to the point :D
Great quick video steve! I've been rocking the standing bike and I never really had a problem with motion sickness. But similar gripes with pain in my hands from awkward positioning.
Thanks Mike!! Standing bike might have to be my next evolution 👀
Quick? first 2 minutes nothing happened
@@marten4624 You mean where he set up the premise to the video, the reason he got a treadmill desk? The average video length on CZcams is 11 minutes, so yeah this is on the quicker end.
amazing content, perfect video, love it a lot, thank you so much for your insight :-)
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks, informative and interesting content.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Steve!
That video was awesome, wasn't sure what to expect when I clicked it but so glad i did. I also wanted to say I wasn't expecting the high level of prodiuction, I think you have a huge future on here, so I hope you're going to stick with this. Subscribed.
Thank you!! That's super encouraging. Makes me want to keep going 🙏
Nice video, both by means of picture and content. Actually was surprised with subscribers number, good luck with channel.
Great video! Keep going!!
Thank you!!
Very good editing quality for someone who doesn't have that many subs! Good job!
Thank you!! I really appreciate you taking the time to say so - worked on this one :)
Great content! It's produced very well
Thank you!!
Love the video! Now I’m buying myself a treadmill! 🤩
BTW-what desk lamp are you using? Looks good!
Wow. Video is really good procuced, I thought you would have at least 50k subs but I never thought its nearly 500. Leaving a sub :)
Wow - thank you!!🙏 😊
Emails and Meetings are perfect for a walking pad, usually anything more complicated than that and I can't focus so I tend to make it part of my start of the day or end of the work day when I have time to do that.
Totally agree!
I highly recommend getting on your bike more - exercising with the kids is great. I love going for a ride in the fresh air.
I’ll never be able to justify buying a treadmill like this or the more standard ones. But I liked this video and found it very interesting, the music was an excellent choice.
Glad to hear it was still interesting! 😊
This was a very well made video.
Quality of this video👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
well cut and told story!
Thank you!! 😊
Hello and thank you for the video. I might be late but anyways, I know how you can do the tasks that you can not do while walking.
Turn it off and lower your desk to this position 5:36 . This is also a trend, solution to counter the sitting habit.
Have a good day.
I got the same treadmill about 10 days ago and I actually did research and I actually would recommend it! I had several options and went with this one because I live in a small apartment and it's very convenient to be able to fold it. Haven't had remote battery issues yet, that does sound bad. I'm averaging over15k steps per day, a number that I'd never even approached in my life!
Let’s goo!!! 15,000?! That’s awesome.👏
Following because this type of production needs some respect
Pro tip: steps start to make body composition changes at around 10,000/day. Probably not practical on a desk treadmill. But you are still getting health benefits, so keep it up. Great video!
After watching many videos of CZcamsr quitting CZcams, I really hope you can make it sustainable and survive longer at this level of quality. Especially if your next videos are not having as much as this video's views but you you've doubled the work / time on them. good luck mate, nice videos
Thank you!! I'll do my best :)
If that’s the C2, you can also control it using the app! I have that model and has the same remote battery issues, so I gave up on remote entirely and use the app on my phone instead.
Whaaaat. Had no idea. You just saved me!!
awesome video well edited and informative. You mentioned you have a standing desk for 10 years! I have never made the jump and work from home on a traditional desk would you recommend switching? Any benefits you see? And any recommendations. I think that will be my first step before considering a treadmill.
Thank you!! I love my standing desk - and I use it habitually. The main benefit I experience is I find standing keeps my energy level higher. When I work at a non-standing desk, my body feels lethargic after a few hours.
Decided to buy a treadmill a couple months back and the part that I haven't figured out yet it how to count the steps. I have a Garmin watch but since my hands are on the keyboard it doesn't track the steps. I'm curious on how did you count the steps. Great video btw!
Wow, that's nice approach! I feel bored easily too!
And I have hard time setting up my threadmil, as I do not have a standing desk.
My personal thoughts: the wrist issue could be somewhat better, when I do not fixate my hand, as I put pressure on it otherwise, and not just my wrist, but my back also starts hurting.
I can read in 3-3,5km/h, but if I need to code 1-2km/tops, it won't give me nearly as much steps, but could keep body moving. I originaly bought it for concentration, as I think by walking better, but honestly, if you walk fast it is counterproductive.
That’s really interesting - confirms my experience too. I might try a bike-desk next. See if it’s easier to code while pedaling 🤷🏼♂️
Once I got my standing desk I removed my desk chair to the other room. I no longer sit for 8-10 hours. Now that I have a walk pad under my standing desk I will get my daily steps in . I had a similar experience use to live in NYC and averaged 18,000 steps a day … now that I live near the burbs I drive everywhere and don’t get my steps in. I put my health as a priority because of the environmental and physical change that I endured. I will use the tools that I now have to ensure I get my fitness back on track
thank you!!!
this was a really good video i expected you to have a lot more subs
Thank you - I appreciate it! 😊
also i work at a battery store and you shouldnt have to replace your lithium remote battery that often, make sure you don't buy them from supermarkets as they are often expired, they should be at least 3.13 volts with a multimetre
Thank you.
good video! see you are still small but i comment so more ppl can see this!
If you can keep this standard of quality, you are not gonna stay small for long. I'm certain of that.
Good luck!!
I appreciate you taking the time to say that!! 🙏
Hola! amazing video! question, what desk you use? is easy to adjust where you want it vertically? ty!
It’s a Geekdesk! I believe it’s no longer for sale though.
Your video content is really good
I appreciate that!
I have the same one. I have never used the remote. I turn on/off and control the speed with the app on my phone.
Really really really good video man!! Honestly like I was watching Matt D’Avella! 🚀👌🏽🔥
That’s awesome!! Big fan of Matt’s 😊
Really solid video! I wanted a little more intermingled stories. "I'm surprised it doesn't hurt my feet" or "my calves feel so sexy" hahaha. This video flowed SO WELL. and was motivating too
Thank you!! 😊
Where is your desk lamp from? Thanks
I think I’d love this
I love the genuine normality
Please don't use any wrist support, they fo the opposite. They're bad for your wrists
Randomly recommended video, probably due to my love for self improvement challenges LOL. But wanted to echo what everyone else is saying, when I saw the incredible quality of this video I was sure that you'd have at least a couple hundred thousand subscribers. This is something I'm most likely to experiment with when I have more space and a standing desk as just standing in one spot when I'm in the office can start to affect my feet or knees whereas walking for long periods of time/running don't. I loved that you touched on how coding on this would be difficult as I was mainly curious how much concentration you could muster up while continuously moving so that was good to know! Keep up the quality videos man!
PS: As someone who believes you can fix all your physical problems with strengthening related muscles/joints. Here is a video for your wrists if you consistently have wrist pain. (May be targeted at a more specific audience but it will definitely get the job done!) czcams.com/video/5edL1aEBe4Y/video.html
3:32 Loved the review. Bring the desk up so your elbow is at a 90 degree angle and is more ergonomic. That may help your wrist
Ah - good to know!
You earned a subscriber here.
How's it going, 5 months on?
Routine can be a habit, I work at a desk for 8 hours a day. So one of these would make me a twig.
Amazon has a few for under $200, it’s good to keep track on a smart watch. Don’t be lazy your health is worth it 👍
As a software developer WFH as well I really am interested in this, but my day to day is mostly coding. This is main hesitation on not buying one of these things.
You mentioned you felt "sick" - I think the main issue I would have is difficulty in typing? How difficult did you find it?
Thanks for the video and I enjoyed it!
Sick to the point of not coding while on the treadmill. Other commenters have said they are able to code while walking though so I think this varies!
had to pause at 1:35, where are you pulling your average daily steps data for the graph? Really fantastic content so far.
Thank you!! It’s pulled from my iPhone Health app 👍
Im in TO too, just curious where your coworking space is? Do you like it and is it affordable? Thanks :)
Hey my coworking space was Project Spaces! I no longer have a coworking space cause I help with the kids but I’d highly recommend a coworking space. I think a monthly pass was like $300 and it was a nice, low key vibe 👍
The one component you missed with your walking is the speed at which you walked. You need to stress the muscles a bit so you actually start burning calories and then keep progessing the number of steps. But otherwise, this video is amazing.
6 months soon, are you still using it?
Hey how do you accurately track your steps? My watch doesn’t count them as my arms aren’t moving and I don’t think my phone is recording accurately in my pocket!
Im not sure I’m doing it accurately- just use my iPhone!!
Ah okay. It’s just when you mentioned doing 2k steps in 20mins, that’s wildly different to mine! Only seemed to do about 3.5k steps in 1.5hrs using my phone but don’t think it’s accurate. Was walking 2mph pace too.
Can anyone recommend one with the weight capacity over 250lbs?
sooo its 5 months later now - are you still using it? :D
Treadmills, especially at low speeds, are very passive. They do not activate as much many muscles as walking.
Think about it .. normally when you walk, you need the friction to push yourself forward. On a treadmill you just lift the opposing leg to move forward, since the treadmill already pushes you back.
Makes total sense. I’d rather walk outside than walk on a treadmill any day
Oh my partner's most recent publication was about the benefits of walking desks at work! great to see people putting it into practice
Oh that's awesome - is there a link to their work? I'd love to read it!
I relate
Violently upset my standing desk was stolen along with other office equipment this was my dream
Ugh. That’s brutal.
how loud or quiet is it in use?
I find it moderately loud? Not annoyingly loud but not silent. It sounds like most treadmills.
I have a standing desk and I still have to sit down for tasks that require intense mental focus....
I'm cosidering buying an under desk treadmill and also a desktop but I'm worried about losing the focus on the work. As this will be a pretty expensive change in my office I would like to know if anyone who has tried descarted it due to the lack of focus. I'm 38 and I work from home about 8-10 hours per day however I'm very active at the end of the day doing about 2 hours of gym or other sports. Walking while working would be a good oportunity to increase the steps per day but I'm not sure if the work performance will be compromised
For me, it is all about WHAT I am working on: anything with heavy reading was difficult (coding, emails). I felt no lag in productivity during meetings, video editing etc. hope that makes sense!
@@steve.benjamins1 Thank you for your response! It makes totally sense, I think the only way is to try it out . Can I ask you how tall is your desktop when its at the top? I'm 185 cm tall and found one desktop in promotion elevating 116cm max. I'm not sure if this is enough. Thanks!
Is there not a button on the tread that you can push to start it?
No there isn’t, seems dumb right
There should be a button on the top front portion that reads M this is Manual mode, press it.
The other button that reads A is Automatic mode, this is the mode that adjusts to your gait. If take small steps it will move slowly. If you take larger steps it will increase in speed.
@@steve.benjamins1
@@steve.benjamins1 Try the M button, it is manual mode to start it at the push of the button. The A button is Auto mode that follows your gait. Long steps = faster speed, short steps = slower speed.
It is not clear at all what those buttons are for and are easy to miss.
@@TATAYLOR1987 Does that work for you? Those buttons don't actually start the treadmill for me.
Try pushing the A button and then slowly start to walk on it@@steve.benjamins1
whats the desk's name?
Walking pad C2!
My under desk treadmill just broke and its killing me!
What desk do you have?
It’s in the video description 👍
here at 809 subs 😀
what desk this is?
It's a GeekDesk - but I don't believe they make them anymore!
ever try walking wearing vr headset?
So really no way to code while walking? All I do all day is code
Maybe others can - I couldn’t
If you had done 10 min resarch you would see that treadmill you got was extremely overpriced, is what I would say if I was sure that you were using USD
If you had done 5 seconds of research you would’ve realized I’m not American and this is not USD (4:19)
And how is the situation now? Do you still walk while working? Is it real to get some shit done ? Maybe you started to loose weight at some point?
