in 2006 i used K&N filter for my Karizma R .. the pickup was great but it also sucks more dust ... its only good for closed environment or good highways but its definitely not recommmended for touring where u face dusty situation.....

What I have heard is that performance air filters also leads to more dust going in and that may not be good for the engine. Any comments on this ?
It is optimised to get in more air flow and eventually catch more dust that accumulates in the process. Deep r&d is involved as they are used worldwide by modifiers, race teams and enthusiasts. So a good branded filter is a good to go. You can retain the old vent in plate too if that is a concern but tuen it will restrict the filter to get more air in.

Air filter perform similar irrespective of the brand. Brand is to give you the surety of the brand history so K&N being renowned worldwide for a long time so I preferred the same. Fuel efficiency as such no effect

Yes definitely throttle response increase as more air is going in the system now
It doesn't increase performance though, a nice placebo effect
Buddy some effect in as the fuel is burning more die to air intake has increased plus the free flow exhaust are letting more air out so cycle is complete
