The packing material is called 'wood wool". It has been used for packing delicate objects for well over 100 years. I remember seeing it in old movies where a character was unpacking a barrel and throwing the wood wool hither and yon, to reach an item in the barrel. I'm so happy to see it come back into favor, as it is something that can either be burned in the fireplace or composted. I'm also really happy to see another plant unboxing. The last one I saw was the wonderful succulents that you received this summer, or was it this past spring?

Very interesting plants! I have to share a story about my dwarf elephant ears. It was my sister in law's plant. She gave it to me winter of 2020 to plant sit while they went RVing for a long stretch. I had it on my screened porch here in Florida. We had a 35 degree night and the foliage froze. It did not come back in spring and I thought it was dead, did not water it for a couple months but it remained in the pot and I tucked it out of the way. Found it when cleaning out the area I had put it, felt bad it died but decided to stick the roots in the ground outside in the shade. Low and behold don't you know the thing sprouted new growth during our rainy hot summer and is still growing. 😀

The string of turtles is just darling! I’ve never seen one. I’m going to have to visit their site for one of those. Happy new year everybody!

Love the Swiss Cheese plant. Used to be extremely hard to find. Very, very easy to grow. Keep mine out side all summer and bring it in cold months here in Arizona. Take lots of cuttings.

This week between Christmas and New Years has inspired me to organize and order my seeds and now it seems like I NEED houseplants. The antenna fern would never last with my plant slayer kitty but there are several others on my list now!

That's an impressive selection of plants they sent you! I'm amazed how good they look coming right out of the box. There was a lot of care that went into packing these.
Hint: Proven Winners should take note! I'm still so very angry with PW for sending my $200+ order with teeny tiny plants that they cut back to 4" and obviously stressed the heck out of by doing so. I doubt half of my order will bounce back next spring. PW customer service is a joke to us little people! 🙄 They lost (another) customer because I know I'm not alone.
But it looks like a $200+ order from Little Prince would definitely be worth it!! 😍

Yes, that packing material certainly is "Excelsior" which is shaved wood. It is a very old way to cushion items in shipments. Works well, and can be re-used or re-purposed in garden uses or in packing for a mailing you may do later on to someone. The plants are so cool looking. Thanks for the link.

10' is a small Monstera, the one I had in Orlando grew up over the roof line of my house and way out into the yard!

Pictures of mature, fruiting ones in tropical forests are always crazy compared to the ones I know in pots! (I’m referring to monster deliciosa, but the “mini monster” she unboxed isn’t actually a monstera, it’s rhaphidophora tetrasperma, and I think it may eventually vine out nice and long if constantly up-potted, even 10’ as it says after years, if it’s happy, the way philodendrons and such do!)

If that packing material is somewhat stiff it is probably excelsior which can be used as a frog for floral arrangements as a frog. I have that senecio and it doe shoot up additional stems. I have it in a mixed succulent arrangement. It adds nice height.
