    I know that this binding method was popularized by the Japanese in the west, but this binding method is Chinese in origin. Ppl are upset by the title. But as Chinese, we r happy to share our culture, and share was apart of our history anyway. there is definitely no need to fight over a binding method. Be respectful~ luving the world!

    • @borntodoit8744
      @borntodoit8744 Před 4 lety +8

      @@chuckbus I'm not gonna make any holes.
      I bought a nice black hardback spiral notepad (A) and multiple cheap softback spiral notepads (B).
      1. First gonna remove the spiral and used pages from A. Leaving just two hardboards with spiral holes predrilled.
      2. I'm not gonna insert B between A hard boards, align the holes.
      3. using this Japanese thread binding technique create a new book C by binding holes in both A and B.
      I could remove spiral from B but I prefer the new book to retain a spiral back for easy page turning.
      I won't bind the book as heavily through 4 holes...I will just use two holes (one at each corner) so is easy to undo and replace notepad with new notepad.
      Depending on needs and supplied notepads I should be able to have a notepad back that is able to fold back on itself 360deg just !Iike original hardback A.
      Alt: use key ring loops or bag ties thru holes for creating spiral back of C.
      Great video by the way...well done, good execution short clear precise and useful !!

    I literally just did this binding for a portfolio I'm making and it was so simply to do! I didn't have an awl or screw punch, so I used a push pin to score my holes then used the needle and hammered it through to make the holes big enough. Worked like a charm! Thank you so much for making this tutorial. It was a real life saver.

    I'm about to get emotional, so bear with.
    I have followed Jennifer for years now, and completed many of her projects. My first was a simple notebook, my second a book press, the third a coptic bound book which I covered, and now this.
    I did stab binding for a book of my work. This is a poetry pamphlet that I'm handing in as my final ever assessment. After I hand it in to my lecturer in two hours, I will have officially finished university.
    Thank you, Jennifer, for teaching me this method, and with all your other videos. Now I'm going to shower and get ready to go in for the last time...

    Thank you for this tutorial, I'll admit that I suck at crafts like this, but this video made it a lot easier to make the binding and it was enjoyable to watch the video. :)
