Honestly as long as you have the nacogdoches saddle and hooded stirrups, you can use whatever horse you want without issue. The speed stat has been proven to be pretty pointless in this game.
yup a horse that runs from or throws you at the first predator you see isn't a horse i want. idk if R* did this intentionally but i find if i expose the horse to dealing with predators early on in bonding by the time it's max bond the horse doesnt even flinch at wolves or grizzlies and usually stays close by during gun fights too. though i tend to pick horses i know that arent easily startled unlike the arabian. but that's just what i notice.
Too bad it’s not really something you can test before you buy. Even after, it’s really just RNG. On PS4 and PC I’ve had completely different experiences with the same horse breed, coat, gender and bonding level. And that’s been different between 2 players and just across the board. Just gotta buy the horse and see what happens and if it’s scared if it’s own shadow then really think about if discarding it and getting another one and trying again is something that’s worth it to you
@@HazardousHDTV I get why, immersion and all that but when it's costing us missions etc.. then it's just dumb. I've even had legendary animals escape from me because of my horse. I absolutely despise the thing and I'm an ex-equestrian lol also discarding and buying another costs too much

@@notBrocker Yeah. I quite enjoy rdr despite the fact that ranching is honestly something I'd prefer. If ranching was a thing here other than on story, then I'd be playing a lot more. But the grinding is relaxing, so I don't entirely mind.
The "worst" role horses are still really good horses though. You can't go wrong with any of them really. My favorite is the palamino blagdon gypsy cob.
My best horse was low rank klaudruber white. She would have ran into the mouth of a cannon if I had asked. I miss you lotus I was fool to get rid of you😭
I currently have the Cremello Klaudruber and it's most definitely my favorite horse. They don't hardly spook and with the saddle it's just as good as any other horse.
Yeh same its the reason i get so pissed when they get injured or upset when they get killed. I pat them and feed them when i think they did a good job in combat or in a mission
Memories of how my black arabian is the biggest scaredy cat and never comes when called, he just throws me off when a threat is near and leaves me for the kill. Lol no loyalty i swear 😂
I gotta admit i'm addicted to getting new horses in this game. I can say ive owned every breed now and tbh i can say it doesnt matter about the stats just pick one you like the look of. My personal fave is the dutch warmblood. Its big, but not too beefy, nice coats and hasnt ever let me down. my go to horse. Second fave is the gypsy cob, the white one..and third is the kladruber silver. Whilst hunting legendary animals that are aggressive, this horse just seems to tolerate them coming at me better than most. I know pvp cat did a video on temperaments that proved that all horses are the same though.
Back then my silver kladruber was a fierce Mare she had some balls of steel never backing down from a pack of wolves or cougars but she did get a bit skittish towards grizzly bears 😂 i still have her in my stalls as secondary horse in case my first one gets killed by griefers or just has that weird bug where pelts spawn on her etc.
I love my dapple rose gray kladruber because other than my mistang or arabian that is not big enough to attract fire my kladruber catches bullets or blocks bullets from hitting me because of how massive he is.
The Missouri Fox Trotter has/will always be my favorite. The first time I ever saw one was in story mode as Arthur. I was passing a random encounter. I saw a good looking horse; I took it. Once I got into online I bought it and never regretted it.
I've got Mustang with buckskin i think and its really good ,on lvl.4 bonding i got 10/10 stamina and health too , speed and handling isnt bad its perfect , price was 500$
same, even though I still would never exchange any of my two most trusted Horses for any of these online coats and breeds. My Dark Bay Andalusian "Hidalgo" and my Chocolate Roan Dutch Warmblood "Rose" will live and die with Arthur Morgan, in every playthrough. I owned and played with every coat and breed, and yes I had Turkomans and Perlino Andalusians, the Red Arabians and the likes when they've been added, but riding any other than my two favourites simply doesn't feel right.
Gareth Copley trader role last year was the best. I made tons from it. If you don’t have that, definitely get it. Plus, sometimes they have horse sales.
Im a horsaholic. Im forever broke in the game cos I keep purchasing new horses. Definitely need more stalls than 10. Ive already gotten rid of a number of horses, some of whom Ive even splurged gold bars on, due to their crappy temperament. I wish we could sell the ones we dont take a shine to as well
I love my mustang, she’s the best horse and hasn’t let me down ONCE! She’s always been there when im in danger and she’s so brave. Best horse I’ve ever had 10/10
I love my Mustang too her name is Oreo very brave fast and sturdy horse and I just recently got a second horse named Grey Wind a male blue roan Missouri fox trotter great purchase best horse honestly and super fast
@@Jah444.. It is about a dozen NPCs that attack your camp. If you are a distance away and the dog comes to warn you, you may get a prompt to fast travel directly to camp. So far I have had it happen twice to me and once when in a friends Posse. I play quite a bit, so it seems to be quite a rare event.
The silver Turkoman is my favorite, even though it isn't a role horse. It can run from one part of the map to other without loosing hardly any stamina if it's a level 4 and you spam G. It's health is also full, so it takes a lot to kill it. It is a little jumpy sometimes, but usually it wont buck me unless the animal gets right under its hooves. It's also pretty fast. I dunno, I just really love that horse.
Turks always strike me as a bit head tossy but it's really only when you first get on and then they settle. Otherwise they are beautiful and all around great horses. They are tall, so not the best choice for chasing legendary animals through dense forest!
I really wish they would add either Knabstruppers or Friesian horses. Both are beautiful and useful breeds. The Knabstruppers are good trail horses and known for their stamina, making them a nice option for those who wish to just go out and explore, though their natural stamina would be useful for galloping out away from danger if need be. Friesians are known for being used in war because of how hard they are to really spook and their surefootedness, making them an exceptional option if you are riding in or from a gunfight or are out hunting large predatory game. Bonus: They are both absolutely gorgeous in terms of appearance!
same, it's a bit of an unpopular opinion but coat colours really are important, at least for me. I'm a high enough rank to get the established norfolk roadsters but i stuck to my dapple gray because it's gorgeous
I mean I love the Norfolk horse but it’s so common online and I’d prefer to have a horse that doesn’t look like every other players. If they added more coat options I’d totally buy one!
Just wish we could get a little bit of cash back when we trade in a $950 horse. You new people just starting out find a horse stick with it so you don't buy all the $900 horses and don't get nothing for it cuz there is no trade in value you buy it you don't want it you give it up for free in Rockstar says tough ship we won't change it
I didn't overthink my horse choices in the beginning and I'm so happy that i made awesome choices intuitively. I bought a mustang and rode that until I maxed the Moonshiner role and ever since then my dappled buckskin Norfolk Roadster has been my trusted steed. She really has it all. I love the height, the speed, the handling, the looks and I got one with THE BEST temper.
honestly I only own and will probably only ever own one horse, I ride my horse for the role playing aspect and that's it, my character is brawny burly guy and I find the horse that speaks to him the most is the Belgian draft horse, which I have named Clyde after the orangutan from the movie 'every which way but loose'
Yah I bought all the horse stalls and at most I only switch to another if my my main ones dies. So yeah I really don't see the point in having more than 2 horses other than just wanting to have them
The mustang is better. Full health and stamina plus 7 speed with the right tack. I’m talking about the overo coats and the buckskin. Besides they are brave and can take a huge hit. Why is no one talking about them.
Have you ever tried to do a speed test for the horses. I tried and there is not that much difference between slow and fast horse's so just buy the horse you love. I have tried every single horse in game and found there is something they dont tell. Its how dose it act around predators. And it's very different. I have now the Ardennes and its a beast around predators. But its up to you.
Supposedly, there is a hidden stat each individual horse has that determines how easily spooked it gets. This is supposed to be a somewhat random figure, so you can have the "same" horse, but yours may buck you off at the first sight of a snake, while mine plows through a pack of wolves, kicking them in the face.
Had been hearing so many great things about the Ardennes that I decided to splurge 18 gold bars on one the other day. While he was a beast in a gunfight, of all my 10 horses, he was the biggest wimp around predators that Ive ever owned. Replaced him a few days back with the cheapo seal brown dutch warmblood, and that horse has turned into one of my best predator hunters 🤷♀️ Definitely drew the short straw in the rng department when I purchased that Ardennes. Really liked the look of that horse and his growly vocals, pity he was such a wimp that he just had to go.
@@IbrisOfAmber it's very different from horse to horse mine is so brave and i seldom get bucked off. How brave the horse ar you only find out if you buy it and its so different.
@@IbrisOfAmber I rode Buell as John in the epilogue until I could afford the rose arabian, he wasn't as skittish as Hamish warned... lots of petting goes a long way with Buell. You should try a lvl20 Klad ;;)
@@Cacheola I do have level 20 klad. He's one of my best horses over all. Love that brute! Except for when it comes to Cougars however, then he becomes one of the biggest wimps I own 😅 My best cougar and predator hunter is my bottom tier black Kladruber mare, who I purchased a few days ago, followed by my seal brown dutch warmblood and buckskin Roadster.
So i watched the video great info, then replayed it on my big screen with the volume off (sorry lol) and just LOVED the scenery shots with the horses, just beautiful!
You can put a waypoint on the map start moving with the horse and hold the dpad,if you are on ps4,and you will enter the cinematic camera view while your horse follows the path.It makes for some very calming scenery
I would like to say that I'm happy with my Breton. And I don't think it's temperament/personality that is messing him up. When I got my Fox Trotter (before I got my Black Arabian) to avoid getting that black Arabian, his cores were always red/down/empty and he was always malnourished straight from the stables. So when I started grinding Bounty Hunter I ended up discarding my Klad because I had the starter horse and it didn't do me much good since I had all roles but Bounty at 20. Magically, my Fox Trotter stopped having red cores. Cut to a few days ago when I got my Steel Grey Breton (male) and he's got chronically depleted, not red, but cores that are one tic from red, cores, and is malnourished. I know it's a bug, because I can't shift his weight one way or another, and obviously if they're going to take 7.50RDO out of my account every damned day they better take care of my horses, but yeah, if I don't have an open slot, my horses suffer for it. I know I'm not the only one who has this problem (from what I've found on Reddit) but god, Rockstar, fix your bugs (without breaking the game!) And I think it's a bug the Naturalist update introduced, but I'd have to check the time stamps on the Reddit posts to be sure.
As far as I'm concerned, I don't care how fast the horse is, or what its acceleration is. Its health and stamina are slightly important, but not crucial. They only think I care about to any real degree is that the horse won't throw me on the ground in front of a cougar or pack of wolves. Naturally, that's the ONLY thing they don't give you any information about.
I have the mid-level Norfolk roadster and I love the look, As stated before in some of the comments the best looking horses usually have bad stats and the good ones look bad
I found my Gypsy cob the bravest out of all my role horses. I also found some of my horses better with certain predators and scenarios. Like my criollo is a champ in Lagras hunting legendary gators and my Gypsy cob is solid with wolves. My roadster is fairly brave all around. My Breton though is very flighty and hates gunfights.
That is so funny! People swear the bravery is all the same, but there’s no way there isn’t some secret sauce goin on in the horse generator that spits out your new one! You could have 10 of the same breed and they’d all be different!
I use the Criollo over the Norfolk because i got the criollo first, before moonshiner even came out, and I got EXTREMELY lucky with its bravery rating, as the one I have is insanely high from what I can tell
I just bought the Norfolk Roadster and found the perfect horse for me. Not as speedy as the Criolo, but he will stand still while you shoot the wolves without tap dancing. It can also run through a barrage of bullets with ease . (I've had to revive it 4 times so far so make sure you have plenty of revivers!) The Gypsy Cob is my number 2. The Arabian is the worst for what I need.
I got the white Arabian, one of those spotted horses that are really expensive, and the tiger striped mustang. My favorite was my Belgian draft that I stole from someone in valentine. Her name was Betsy and then she died at the end of the game but I had her for like 5 months
I remember some griefer tried to grief me with a Arabian lol and my Ardennes just absolutely destroyed the guy, sent the Griefer flying off and I accidentally killed his Arabian 😂 a fucking unit in combat
@@shirazi9739 yes the last 2 on the Gypsy cons are quite unique and stunning. I have the one shown in the video and I own all 10 stable stalls of amazing horses and always find myself going back to the Gypsy cob.
honestly, the cob is my favorite horse. i have a splashed piebald mare named ghost, and she has run over alligators, cougars, and panthers, and she has never went down during a legendary bounty (while all my other horses did during the cecil tucker one). she's an absolute tank and gorgeous 💞 edit: those new mustangs are great, too. i did the new bounty at a 5 star level with my friends and that horse never bucked me, despite the panthers getting out of their cages. edit 2: i now have two more cobs named ladybird and maggie
It's like when a cougar are few feet away my Kladruber and Roadster just freeze in position,reboot.. and then bucks me off to save it's own ass. I still love em though.
I'm surprised everyone doesn't value stamina as the most important stat. Seems to out do speed in 75% of missions, anytime you have to go far enough to run your stam bar out
7:18 My Norfolk goes down just seeing a enemy. My bonding level is 4 lol. It's very common or my horse to go down even if I'm not on it. I guess it hates me so it tries to take the easy way out. Great video tho :)
The tennesee walker you get at the beginning from Sadie adlers Farm is lways my best horse. I call him Texas and he never goes anywhere. I next love Beulle.
I find it hard to beat the Thoroughbred that came with the Upgraded package of RDR. I put the Halloween mask on it, and now when I crash into another horse and rider, they both die. Not that I make a habit of that. It's a warhorse with the mask. I wasn't expecting that.
I gave up on all my lvl 20 role horses, Arabian (pfff) etc and am solely riding the tiger stripe mustang anymore. That horse rules. Six wolves at a standstill? check. Charging bear at standstill shot at 2 yards face to face? check. I boost her for shootouts.
To this I have to add: I can also HIGHLY recommend the Perlino Andalusian. It is 1:1 as good as the Mustang but has 10 health (!) and might even top it in shootouts. Mine is better with snakes. Exceptional. I am also right now testing the NEW Mustang which is a 10/10 horse.
Absolutely. I got the black overo Mustang and its almost fearless, stomps gators and won't buck with cougars or wolves. Also no problem with gun shots.
This is actually really good information because I'm always slower than my friends or way too fast but the thing is is you should get the horse you really want and you really like because then you find out how to control it better you know what I mean I don't know really how to explain it lol
Holy shit, we all need more clothing slots already!! Im okay with the amount we can store on our horse, but damn, there are like 3 billion clothing combinations you could create, and yet you can only "save" ten outfits?! It is beyond frustrating to try and design a new outfit, knowing I either wont save it, or I am forced to delete a classic.
Got the black and white arabians both lvl 4 bonding, absolutely horrible with fear, they’ll buck me off and not run back on command straight awY, but their speed and handling are unparalleled, plus they look clean
Just started red dead online not too long ago and I got the Kladruber because I thought it looked pretty. I named him Sylens and he freaks out over every slightly spooky animal, love him
I don’t really like online, but I play it solely because it has more horse slots, and more cool horses. I really wish the story mode had more stalls, and horses.
@@SATANFUCKSMYSOUL I wish we could at least look at the horses for sale when it’s full. Like what if I get rid of one to look and there’s nothing good?
What matters is stamina and health not speed or braveness bc u can just spamm L3 to calm horses Edit: i use a black american standardbred it doesnt buck even if predators is neard even grizzly bears
I don’t think there is a bad horse I just think some horses have better stats than others, if you like the way a horse looks then get it if you don’t then don’t
I actually use the black arabian more than all my other horses combined. Ive got zero issues with mine, never have, and never have I ever regretted grinding for it. It looks a bit tiny for my preference, but the stats and behavior have always meshed just fine with me. If you arent calming it, thats on the player and not the horseabout 98% of the time. Rarely does it act out without reason where others wouldnt do the same.
This ranking is very personal base I feel, all horses here are ranked base on their speed and acceleration. These two stats are the least important when I come to horses. How often do you sprint from 1 side of the map to another? If you really want to travel that far, there’s quick travel. As long as speed and acceleration are both over average (5+), the different are merely noticeable, basically the same. It’s the other 4 stats (health, stamina, handing and bravery) that determine the best horse.
I personally use the Brindle Thoroughbred. It has Race handling do u seldom hit stuff by mistake. The stamina and health are half of max. But seldom does my horse go down because i play cautiously. Also the horse is the second largest I’m sure if you purchase your friends will not have the same horse as you which is a great asset as well
I recommend (If you have the gold) buying the black Arabian. My One has the same name as my old Ult edition horse and looks kinda the same just a bit smaller.

I hope Rockstar somehow punished you some way for killing your horse. For me I would be okay with if you kill your horse then your bonding level got decreased. Like 2 level lower. It will make you people treat their horse with caution and respect. Some people treat their horse like its CAR from GTA 5.
The best horses I had was agnóteros the Arabian and Sherman the Shire on my second playthrough, never before have I loved two animals on opposite sides of the spectrum before. Agnóteros was fast as sound but got scared at a snake over in amberino if we were down in saint denis, while Sherman was slow but the only thing that would scare him was a grizzly bear, sadly Sherman passed away in my newest playthrough, and was replaced by Ares for now, sometimes I go down and shoot cornwalls men as revenge.
If we can maintain infinite stamina with the saddle and stirrups, surely the ratings should ignore stamina as it is moot? We should be basing our decisions on health, speed and acceleration only.
What is shitty is that only the nacogdoches is so good, as with the rest of the sadles the stamina does matter still... you can put a nacog to a low tenesse walker or kentucky sadler and it will last.
@@williamconto6977 Yup. Just run that saddle and stirrup combo and you can spam X and the sooth button from one side of the map to the other on pretty much any horse.
@@rinzler8272 no biggie there, but then dont focus it all in just one saddle!!!... the roles ones should be on par, but they although good are far from it... sigh... then we got the colors variety... is unforgivable that we still dont have a classy black saddle for example.

Even though it's one of the worse ones, I'm forever gonna love my naturalist role horse because it looks like a cow to me and I love noodle for it

A real cowboy. I love it too lmao
gyspy cob is just perfect for me

The "worst" role horses are still really good horses though. You can't go wrong with any of them really. My favorite is the palamino blagdon gypsy cob.
My best horse was low rank klaudruber white. She would have ran into the mouth of a cannon if I had asked. I miss you lotus I was fool to get rid of you😭
I named mine moon, she was white too
I have the black one named black magic
I currently have the Cremello Klaudruber and it's most definitely my favorite horse. They don't hardly spook and with the saddle it's just as good as any other horse.
I had a black one called hades, he’s a tank. He eats bullets for breakfast
I got the same one and love it as well.
Am I the only one who imagine my horse having his own distinct personality and ranking them based on memories we had together =}
No. Ur not the only human….
Big fan of the Breton. Good to have that extra health for saddled battles and is a great chasing horse for pursuits. Plus it looks boss.
My Favorite horse is the Kladruber Silver. This horse is a larger horse with out it being a shire. I prefer a larger horse over all!
Yess I love my silver Kladruber! I called her Brida named after a viking because they look so bad ass
@Daniel k 😂
Silver Kladruber is the best! I love mine!
Yeah. Love my big Thoroughbred. Put the Halloween mask on it, and when I hit another horse/rider, they both die. What???
I love my dapple rose gray kladruber because other than my mistang or arabian that is not big enough to attract fire my kladruber catches bullets or blocks bullets from hitting me because of how massive he is.
The Missouri Fox Trotter has/will always be my favorite. The first time I ever saw one was in story mode as Arthur. I was passing a random encounter. I saw a good looking horse; I took it. Once I got into online I bought it and never regretted it.
Same! I got the paint one that is 45 gold bars, will always love my dear Iris

I have 2 😂 contemplating them all
I've got Mustang with buckskin i think and its really good ,on lvl.4 bonding i got 10/10 stamina and health too , speed and handling isnt bad its perfect , price was 500$

I bought one while on sale. Best $300 I ever spent. I love her.
I play strictly story mode whenever I play rdr2 and I would love it if they added all the coats and horses from online into story
same, even though I still would never exchange any of my two most trusted Horses for any of these online coats and breeds.

I really hope they add more stalls. I’m full and have been since they gave us 10 stalls. I still have horses I wana buy!
Im a horsaholic. Im forever broke in the game cos I keep purchasing new horses. Definitely need more stalls than 10. Yes this inspired me to be a horse collector too.
Breton in my opinion, should be 2. its not good, but its not that bad. I have a Breton and it can take a hella lot of bullets from enemies

@@Jah444.. random event, NPCs attacked my camp, I think it was because I had 100 goods to trade 🤔

I keep bouncing between my leapord appaloosa, and my Breton. Love those guys
Leopard Appaloosa 💙 favorite coat in the game right there. lil Dalmatian horse
Best has the worst coats though so I never use it ....
same, it's a bit of an unpopular opinion but coat colours really are important, at least for me.
It’s unfortunate. There’s so really bad horses that look great and really bad looking horses that are amazing on the trails :/
I like the the highest rank coats IMO their the best
I got the black Norfolk roadster and named it nyx
Fun fact: Gypsy cobs also are considered Gypsy vanners, Irish Vanners, Or Irish cobs.

Mustang have a good stamina and very good for gun fight 👍
The new mustang is a top tier horse for 1/2 the price of any other top tier horse.
Wish that horse blinder masks in red dead redemption actually worked like they do in reality.
honestly I only own and will probably only ever own one horse, I ride my horse for the role playing aspect and that's it, my character is brawny burly guy and I find the horse that speaks to him the most is the Belgian draft horse, which I have named Clyde after the orangutan from the movie 'every which way but loose'
Yah I bought all the horse stalls and at most I only switch to another if my my main ones dies. So yeah I really don't see the point in having more than 2 horses other than just wanting to have them
Thanks. I'll check it out.
horses for free this week lol
Replaced him a few days back with the cheapo seal brown dutch warmblood, and that horse has turned into one of my best predator hunters 🤷♀️
Definitely drew the short straw in the rng department when I purchased that Ardennes. Really liked the look of that horse and his growly vocals, pity he was such a wimp that he just had to go.

I know I'm not the only one who has this problem (from what I've found on Reddit) but god, Rockstar, fix your bugs (without breaking the game!)
And I think it's a bug the Naturalist update introduced, but I'd have to check the time stamps on the Reddit posts to be sure.
Honestly the missouri fox trotter has never let me down, I've had wolves run into her and she never bucked me off, very few times has it happened

I use breton. Its pretty mutch a muscular mustang and kinday better in my opinion.
Bit of irony about the Breton, it's supposed to be a bounty hunter's horse, but it always runs away soon as a gunfight pops off. 💩

Hell yeah! My Criolo is entirely fearless ever since doing the Wolfman bounty a few dozen times. She has killed quite a few wolves by trampling
There is no bravery rating 😂😂
I just bought the Norfolk Roadster and found the perfect horse for me. Not as speedy as the Criolo, but he will stand still while you shoot the wolves without tap dancing. It can also run through a barrage of bullets with ease . (I've had to revive it 4 times so far so make sure you have plenty of revivers!) The Gypsy Cob is my number 2. The Arabian is the worst for what I need.
The Norfolk Roadster is the fastest horse on the game. What do you mean "not as speedy"?

I'm surprised everyone doesn't value stamina as the most important stat. Seems to out do speed in 75% of missions, anytime you have to go far enough to run your stam bar out
With high enough bonding it will practically never run out

My Silver Kladruber might not be the fastest nor is he the bravest but he's my favourite regardless!
Also the horse is the second largest I’m sure if you purchase your friends will not have the same horse as you which is a great asset as well
I can't justify buying anything over my Black Chestnut Thoroughbred from the pre-ordered Ultimate Edition.

Gypsy Cobb is by far my favorite too. With the naco saddle on it’s plenty fast and mine has stood solid while I fight off bears and wolves🤷🏼♀️
The steel grey Breton FTW
The thoroughbred you get in the deluxe edition is the best horse as far as I'm concerned
Yep it is 100% I beat the offline game and it is best horse
If we can maintain infinite stamina with the saddle and stirrups, surely the ratings should ignore stamina as it is moot? We should be basing our decisions on health, speed and acceleration only.
Exactly. Once you get the higher level horses, your horse should never run out of stamina
What is shitty is that only the nacogdoches is so good, as with the rest of the sadles the stamina does matter still... you can put a nacog to a low tenesse walker or kentucky sadler and it will last.
@@williamconto6977 Don't know why they made the stats rely on the saddle so much....such a bonehead move
Super handy spreadsheet. I appreciate you for sharing this info, sir!
Glad it hear it helped you! Thanks for watching :)
I love the Black Arabian because it can take a lot of damage and run for along time at fast speed
It’s a good horse but it’s so scared
