WARNING! Watch BEFORE Drifting Your Harley Dyna! Learning The Hard Way...
Harley Dyna Drifts have been high on my list of tricks to learn for a while now. I finally mustered up the courage to start messing around a bit and it has been a WILD ride thus far. Today I'm discussing some of the challenges learning to drift a Harley motorcycle from a beginner's perspective. The pros make it look easy, but trust me, this is no walk in the park! I'll also go over what I've done to make the learning experience less dangerous, including practicing in the dirt and in the rain/on wet surfaces. I highly recommend starting on a smaller/lighter bike before jumping to the monstrous dyna! For the record, I am NOT a pro, and I don't have these figured out yet. This is not a HOW-TO; rather, me learning how. Enjoy!

Johns StreetBob sale ad: The bike has never been dropped. No wheelies or hooligan stuff. Never been rode in the rain 😂
"Garage kept, immaculate condition. Never down or dropped. Lightly ridden for leisure on the weekends."🤣🤣🤣
Such an underated channel!
Why has everyone ignored shadetree rn. WTF damn fartsniffers.
Yo! Not sure how I missed this comment tje first round through. 🤣💯🤙
@@riggs_219 lmao! I even missed his comment!
It’s pretty cool watching you develop skills. You can wheelie anything- I’m sure it is only a matter of time before you can drift anything too! 🤘🏽
Just a matter if time and practice! Lol.
Least you picked up the bike right before he pulled up 😂 that woulda been fun explaining
Yup... When the bike becomes perpendicular to the direction of travel... High Side. ;) Jon... Gotta add that you've got the base skills and the right attitude to learn these tricks. I'd say that if you can't ride your bike up a ramp onto your pickup then do a back flip off the bed... you probably shouldn't try this.
Hahaha! Thanks, brotha!
Thanks great footage, editing, and info about safety for the bike and the person. how to start out, and how to know when to stop
the sound of that first high side in the vid hurt my soul. Thank God you have the balance of a fucking ninja man
Hahaha! I know! The sound of bike hitting the ground is the worst!
I’m in the process of getting these Harley stunts down and these vids are so much help
Thanks, brotha! More to come for sure! And check dom's channel to see the end goal! Lol.
You’re rad for showing your growing process bruh. 🤙
Motorcycles, Dixxon Flannels, and random backflips! Bro!!! keep it coming 🤘
Looks really cool when you pull it off! When I used to do that stuff I did it on a much smaller bike. I did wheelie my FX Super Glide and FXR, but never intentionally spun the rear tire. Now I'm just too afraid of damaging the bike and me! Did the officer tell you to leave? Did he say you were trespassing?
Hehe nice, adding that rain drifts into the intro 😁
Ouch the first 30 seconds I cringed. Lol. Love your channel man. I think it’s awesome you and wife both have channels. Keep it up.
I agree its so much easier in the rain...everyone should start in the rain.
Right!? Its like having a cheat code. Lol. Still scary tho!
Progression!! Super rad to see!
🤘🏍 hecks yeah, bro!
Very pleasant and useful video👍👍👍
Just wondering what you have in the front of your pickup box to keep it from getting damaged from loading/hauling bikes?
Hi bro nice stuff as always it's a great vid 🕶🇦🇺👍
These visuals are dope bro
Awesome. What is the year and model of this Dyna? Thx
Absolutely savage!🔥🔥🔥
Hey man, I’m basically a squid just learning wheelies on my sportster. But I’m also out here in the PHX area. Your videos are great and super helpful for stuff ive been thinking about learning. Also, idk if you play guitar but a capo serves as an awesome tripod for your phone Haha.
You're getting there brother man. I personally never got past rolling burnouts as the crew years ago stopped stunting after a couple deaths and baby's and just life but my buddies that were good at it used to constantly say "throttle out and commit", basically closing the throttle is what gets you in trouble. Anyway, they were ridiculous and just way beyond me but you're killing it dude, no BS. BTW, frame sliders and crash bars look better rashed, means you're swinging it. Stay cool breeze...
Yo! Sully! Hope all has been well! Just a matter of lots and lots of practice. Ill get there some day. Lol.
@@JonsMotoGarage Right on! things are great, thanks for asking.
Super sick bro
Hey do you think it’s possible to drift and wheelie on the warrior 1700?
2 questions how tall are you and what are the riser size and pullback? I wanna try rolling burnouts. Trying to learn how to do that. Picked up a 2010 fat bob cheap as shit recently. Plan on whipping its a$$ lol.
Where did you get your filler and gas gauge? I have a 17 Fat Bob and I’ve been looking for something similar.
Look at you with 23,000 subs. Schweet. I remember when you were stoked to bust 1000. Congrats!!! Anyway the video. Good stuff. Glad you can afford to drift lol I can’t afford to replace parts. Good luck brother you’ll be stunting at rally’s before you know it!!
Hahaha! Thanks, man! I dont have high hopes for the stunting game, but it would be rad to lock in these drifts in the next few years.
the only drifting i ever did was in my teens on dirtbikes...i didint knew that 'drifting' was a thing... the only tips i can give you with my totally inapropriate experience is that you seem too agressive on the throttle at the begining, that put your drift at a big angle rigth at the begining you loos all speed so you agressively let off the throttle to reduce the drift angle but the rear tire is already at 90 so it bite big and highside you go.
you did the same thing on tha vulcan S. but hey im used to dirt so the lean angle are way smaller due to lower traction so maybe im all wrong i dont know.if you cant help going heavy on the throttle at the launch i would suggest leaning less for one length of a bike to gather a bit of speed and then do what you do now, the extra speed will protect you and lead you into a longer 'swoopier' drift. adjust from there.
hope it help good luck and i still like the vids
This is an older video but still pretty cool watch, thanks for the upload! I recently relocated to Phoenix and from the looks of it, finding an isolated empty lot is not that hard. Instead of the parking lot of a business complex, wouldn't it be better to use an empty (dirt) lot like the one you were using with the DRZ? I would think it would also be less damaging to you and to bike when you crashed, no?
To bad that spots not concrete, would probably be much easier. My favorite go kart track is concrete, requiring you to really drive it compared to the high grip asphalt tracks. There's a ton of grip at that spot and shreds ur tires I bet too. I used to use soap on curbs for skateboarding rail slides and allowed me to do 7 curbs once. Im not gonna suggest it since it could be dangerous once you get back out on the road. And if it rains Id be concerned about the soap in the treads coming out but something consider. I wonder if there's a really hard tire you can get that would slide more for practicing with that much grip. I'll be sliding around in an indy car tonight at NAGP on an oval track in simulation racing with fanatec hardware to get my thrills that I used to get on my dirt bike. Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed your videos so much that I'm buying some things from your supporters. Please keep them coming! I'm nearing 50 years old and wish I could try this but know better, I have people depending on me. I only wish I had the balls to attempt what you were doing when I was younger. Looking forward to more of your adventures!
Yo! Much appreciated, brotha! As long as we're enjoying the ride and having fun, that's what its all about! I understand completely where you're coming from. Sometimes I have to take a step back and remind myself I ain't a kid anymore. Hahaha! Thanks for the positive vibe and encouragement!
I see guys lowering tire pressure a lot , does that help, did you do that? When I come off I break bones and bike lose $ large great video , how is the pain?
I think the sticky Shinko may not be the tire for drifts. Running higher air pressure may help.
well done your doing great.
Good save
Oh my gosh!! You're right in my bike yard. Chandler PD. Who knew! I'm in Queen Creek. :-)
John, love your videos, they are always very informative and fun. But brother, I have no idea why anyone would do this stuff. I also don't think the engines oil during wheelies. I think the oil drains to the back end of the crank case and being 70, I know that every piece of equipment has 100 percent of its life stored inside it. How long it lasts, depends on the rate you draw on the 100 percent.
Are there any “low profile” pegs for this kinda shit or are they all pretty much the same width?
I want you to talk about that loading ramp on your truck! I have been terrified to ever try loading a Harley into the back of my truck but you made it look so easy! Can you go through and explain that both the loading and unloading and tips and tricks related to that?
I was terrified when I picked up my brothers Sportster with a U-haul pickup and a couple good Harbor Freight ramps. We walked it up the ramp one on each side and it went way smoother than I’d feared.
is that private property? Did they let you go there?? Bc I see sooooooo many parking lots like that but they all have a no trespassing sign and that kinda stops me from going.
That’s pretty impressive control honestly. I’m sure a lot of people would view this as pointless hoonery or something like that and those are the people who will dump their bike the first time out on the road when their back tire skids sideways. You’ll be fine when that happens.
And that is why i wont ever try drifting. Cant stand to be without my Harley even a day.
that's why you get two.
I love drift mine so much I got a 3rd just for back up :-)
Hey if you ever get your hands on a Suzuki RGV 250 you should do a review or video on that
🚔👮♂️ Moto Madness material.
👨👩👧 ❤
Hahaha! I need the tune "breaking the law" or "bad boy, bad boy" playing in the background! 🤣🤣
I wanna learn so damn bad but I can't have my fxdx hit the ground. Need to buy a beater
Just buy an engine guard
Nice vid🏄♂️🏄♂️🏄♂️
I know this is a month old, what ramps are they?
As a owner of a dyna street bob 110 this gave me anxiety but damn that looks fun lol \m/
Whats that sound at 13:44 ? My dyna makes the same sound and always makes me cringe
You were born to be a stuntman. I hope you get a movie offer soon.
Hahaha! That would be awesome! Not banking on it tho. 🤣🤣🤘🔥
Yo John! Since your back on it can we get more tutorial videos? I'm just starting to stunt on my 20 fxlrs!
What kind of tutorial are you looking for? Ill see what I can do. 👌💯
I can see you and jacky doing drifts together in about a year or two.
0:26 high sided?
hi, bro. recently I'm getting very interested with Harley stunt.
I try it but sadly I ruined my clutch 2 days ago which on 2nd session.
I never seen anyone do stunt here in my country. I have no place to refer to especially on technical part.
For now I think stunt or dift no suitable for my stock harley. maybe I did wrong too, not correctly on pulling the gas throttle or realising the clutch.
now I'm waiting for my new clutch kit away from USA (SCREAMING EAGLE) and I costs me almost 500 dollars.
I hope you read my message and help me out.
From, Malaysia
Nice dismount. If you're gunna be dumb you gotta be tough!
I did that alot without trying on my old bike then realized i did it after it after lol
Dude! You're a natural! Lol. Tool me months to muster up the courage.
Is this a street bob?
What are you thoughts on the Dyna vs Softail street bob?
I dog the new softails and would totally mob one!
Hey quick question, is ur check engine light on? And if so, if it’s sumn minor, do u still crank that thing for very long? Or immediately get her checked out?
Yeah, its O2 sensor (rattled loose) and I've been rolling it like that for a while. You can check the code and see exactly what it is. I'm no mechanic tho so always best to consult an expert.
Jon's Moto Garage ok gotcha, cus I have been having the exact same problem. Front O2 sensor keeps popping up in my codes. Rode it like that for awhile, then I tightened up the bolt today and the code hasn’t came back. Hopefully it stays that way. It’s just annoying seeing that light on.
'don't let dom829 etc fool you bc they make it look easy'
bro you make it easy too man hahaha good shit bro love your content. i try here and there small attempts but im too scared to do it fully with my brand new low rider. i can drift a car pretty well btw but the harley.. mannnnn i'm scared hahaha
If you had been on the Lowrider that fall would have been expensive
Anytime your trying to do sketchy shit theres always a chance of getting fked up lol
I have a 2011 dyna wide glide & it came with forward controls.. what are the best mid controls i can get ??? Please anybody lol
HeroesOrVillains just stock mids, oem mids fit 91-17 if I recall correctly only thing is they will run you some $$ I’d say around $250 my street bob I bought off a dude a few years ago was so damn stock it hurt to look at BUT it had a 95” engine with a solid set of cams and forward controls first things I bought were a 2-1 some bars and mids and it made all the difference she rips
What year make and model is your bike
2013 dyna street bob custom (103ci)
You're looking really good bro, i build and ride bikes for this sort of thing as a job (just fyi :))
the only things I'd suggest is when she starts to flick over in the transition, don't cut the throttle entirely, try and bring it to about 20 to 40 percent depending o n where your cam starts. Oh and the most important thing for drifting any bike is as my teacher said to me "put those big balls of yours on the tank! Not on the seat near it, on the tank!" And after that the angle your physically on makes it feel less sketchy:)
Best of luck!
Heck yeah! Thanks for the encouragement and tips! My biggest problem now is finding a place to practice. Lol. I keep getting shut down!
Also, let me know if you have an ig or anything to follow. Watching the pros helps me out a ton! 🤘😎
@@JonsMotoGarage no IG man, over here in Australia riding like we do is quite literally jailable if the coppers decide to be dicks about it so I record as little evidence as possible, a couple of boys to follow would be 'mudgee17' and twisted industries tho. Those boyd make it all look easy
Hey man, just a tip, don't keep your bike on the kickstand while hauling it. Hit a hard bump, you might bend the frame where the kickstand bracket is welded on. Just saying man. Dig the content tho!!
Next up is a Goldwing Jon.
Only way to get it down is to practice everyday. And get to know your bike from your clutch work to back brake and throttle response.
helpful as fck. Love you big bro!
Sorry to bother you with this but where did you get that ramp? And great video as always
I picked up the ramp off craigslist. Big boy 3'x10' 💯👌
Awesome TY brother, I'm gonna get the same one
i love the casual backflip off the truck
If your bike goes down does it depreciate the value significantly? I would think it would. This Is more for a end user bike and not your baby.
anyone know what the exact model that bike is?
2013 street bob custom 😎🤘
Jon's Moto Garage if you ever plan on selling it ill take it from you at a good price😎
As soon as you let of the throttle your wheelspin slide stopped and BAM YOU'RE ON THE GROUND!
ITS ALL ABOUT THROTTLE CONTROL ! I learned all about THROTTLE CONTROL REAL QUICK when I bought a 1987 HONDA CR-500 race bike ! On one of them either your learn real fast or your replacing rear fenders and sub sections and or your recieving broken bones and injuries 🤣
Hey bro, if you could not hurt yourself that would be great , what else am I gonna watch if you have a cast on? I sure as hell ain’t going to watch “how to color your cast video’s lol
Lmao! How to itch an itch with a cast on would be my first how- to. Hahaha!
Dixxon elm street?
That's the one!
Is this high sighting?
Yes, this is a prime example of high siding. 👌
Buenos días carnal
Don’t feel bad a lot of us just use our phones to make videos hell put mine in top jacket pocket to make ride along videos
how tall are you? inquiring because of the handlebar comment about 14min in
5'8"
@@JonsMotoGarage my guy with the speedy reply! I’m 5’11 and thinking of getting 14in risers. Still debating between 14 or 12. Tons of people say they got 12s and eventually wanted 14s anyway.
@@Dexatron a lot comes down to what you plan on doing. For longer rides, the taller risers might be more comfortable. For stunt riding, shorter with a pull back is usually a better fit. But I've seen people tearing it up with all of em. 🤙💯
Thought it was meklo for a sec
Why don't you take up flat tracking, or speedway racing? It would save destroying good street bikes.
new bars are better =)
I watch Jon do crazy shit on a motorcycle so I don’t have to.
How did you flirt your way outta that ticket? What did he want?
So is it illegal to stunt there or what? Did you just luck out he didnt see you drifting?
Its private property, so unless the owner is present and wants to press charges, I dont think it's something they can ticket for. But that varies by state and I'm not 100% certain. The week before I was out riding and an officer showed up. I asked if I needed to leave and he said I was ok to keep riding. Luck of the draw.
Uh, why?
Who says harleys aren't resilient
The mechanics haha. But there easy to fix:)
Because it fell over?. Ok that dont make sense..
You didnt have to give the cop your ID. You didnt break the law when he pulled up.
Bro didn't you know skills are only for rich people, you gotta go rent a space out if you want to practice. Why on earth would somebody just let you use their massive empty parking lot smdh the poors are at it again.
Lmao! 🤣🤣
What's the point of any of this dumb stuff? More money than brains!!!
