The answer Nick gives about Ferris Beuller's Day Off is a great one because, at the end of Love, Simon, he marks off that there are 17 days until graduation. Next, Simon picks up each and every single one of his friends and Leah switches to the back signifying that Blue is now riding shot gun in Simon's life. The last line Simon speaks is that it's a beautiful day and he wants to take everyone on an adventure. That is exactly what Ferris Beuller was doing with Cameron and Sloan in Chicago the day he ditched school during his senior year.
