But first, I’ll put it all in context with a look back at the history of NHL uniform suppliers. From CCM in the ’90s to Reebok in the ’00s, and all the way up to adidas today-plus what they have in store for their final season.

Adidas has earned a special place in hockey jersey history in a relatively short time. Whoever is next in line, I hope that they put quality and design at the forefront as Adidas have done. If by chance the new supplier builds out a new/expanded design team, I wonder if anybody from the Icethetics Concept family gets a look!
Great point, Dallas. I’d advocate for any one of you guys! 💙
I hate seeing Adidas go, the jersey's are astoundingly beautiful and pure quality.
Pure quality? Adidas jerseys are garbage. CCM game weight jerseys are far better
@@masseyhemenway2657 what jerseys are you buying lol, the authentic jerseys are great quality
@@boydder7802 I disagree. I have an Addidas game jersey and would defer to their CCM equivalents from the 1990s everytime. Even Starter game jerseys were better. Just my opinion.
New Era would be interesting, they could do some cool coordination between hats and jerseys for fans and for players to wear in interviews
This is a big reason I'm hoping for New Era to get the contract. NHL teams not contracting with New Era for hats now are leaving money on the table as it is.
If NE was the official apparel provider for the whole league, the coordinated combos they could make would be a lot of fun for fans and collectors alike.
Also, I really like the CFL jerseys. I'd like to see what they could do with the NHL.
New Era lost there naming rights on the Buffalo Stadium less than 4 years in to a 7 year agreement, shut down a major factory in Buffalo, and downsized in half in the last 5 years. I don’t think they’re the best option.
They make the uniforms for the Canadian Football League, they’re not bad.
New Era makes NOTHING any longer. They are a Marketing Company only. Everything is sourced in China. And BTW, the owners are my neighbors.
I genuinely really like their CFL jerseys. Plus their hats are iconic and it's a bummer the NHL doesn't have a partnership with them atm, so I'm hoping for this too but I'm not sure how likely it is
I surely hope Fanatics doesn’t get the deal. I’ve never been impressed with the quality of anything they’ve released.
It's a shame Adidas don't make much of the nhl clothing line since it's all fanatics now which stinks.
I’m so glad when I bought my jersey I got an Adidas one. I didn’t know anything about jerseys then but even I could tell that Fanatics was totally subpar.
lol imagine mismatched teal swatches on Sharks jerseys like they did with runs of t-shirts.
fanatics is total garbage and always has been
I've only got the Adidas gear. Too afraid to try Fanatics.
Man, I'm always blown away from the production quality of your content. The graphics, the cadence, the script itself are all good enough for network tv imo
Thanks, Austin!
CCMs consistently produced some of the most creative jersey designs in the AHL. Add that with the history seeing them take over would be great.
Also in Finnish Liiga, If you google Liiga Jerseys some of them are really cool, like Oulun Karpat, or Tampare Ilves.
I fully agree. And I would buy at least five new jerseys if CCM took the reigns back (that five out of the gate. Not to mention commemorative and things like that).
In 96-97 the Sharks and Maple Leafs also switched to Nike.
CCM had the cleanest most classic product.
I love how all teams had the same exact cut, and material, but still had so many ways to be creative and distinguish themselves within that.
Sounds like you’re describing Adidas as well.
Adidas jerseys have been awesome
@@icethetics I thought Adidas used different cuts and materials for various teams. There was something beautiful about the 80's cookie cutter simplicity. Plus, I honestly like that cut while playing or as street clothes.
I hope that, regardless of who takes over, we can purchase authentic jerseys that are exactly the ones worn on ice by the pros. The current “pro” jerseys are not legit from that standpoint.
@@jeffreyc1971 THIS
I'd be surprised if it isn't CCM taking over, since they were owned by Adidas, they do the minor league versions of the existing patterns, and can likely just license the "jersey system" from Adidas. It serves the purpose of Adidas exiting the sport (refocusing) and maintaining a revenue stream for their patterns while bringing sustained consistency to the league uniforms.
My only worry with anyone else is going through the "we can only do X patterns this year, so everyone has to conform" .. and Nike might change too much to fit their design philosophy / uniform system.
agreed and as the video pointed out CCM is already supplying so many teams... 32 AHL and 60 CHL teams... they can get it done, especially if teams don't actually attempt to redesign logos out of the blue
great response.
I also suspect that if the NHL chose Nike to develop their jerseys there would also be a sizeable fan backlash as well because of Nike's connections to China and Chinese sweatshops
Were owned! Do you not get that?
@@kj6446 CCMs fan WHL jerseys are horrible compared to Adidas
Great breakdown! I can’t believe I forgot about the weird year where pro-player made jerseys. The stick tap to Adidas was well deserved. When you summarize it all, it was astonishing how much Adidas has brought to the league in just a handful of years.
Also, here is the obligatory compliment for the insane production value… including creating a lot of the practical B-roll shots yourself.
Thanks for noticing, Gregg! The toughest part about assembling a 22-minute video like this isn’t the writing or narrating... it’s finding or creating all the necessary B-roll to go with what I’m talking about. Helps that my closet is full of NHL jersey history from the last few decades. 😅
@@icethetics strong and plentiful b-roll that allows for continual visual changes, whether that be movement or edits to new footage is what differentiates videos. 23 minutes of it is a monumental sum to create and collect.
When adidas first came to the NHL many were skeptical about it, but in a relatively short time they have made such a great impression to the point I’m sad they arnt sticking aroundy
I would love to see CCM make the jump back into the NHL. I loved the update to the jersey template that they made in the 2018-19 season for the AHL (the quicklite template, the collars really stand out on those jerseys for me) and to see a familiar name back in the mix would be terrific.
I'd do anything for CCM to return but adopt the systems from Adidas. Same designs, but CCM philosophies. And logo.
Not really a fan of the CCM AHL necks to be honest. The chrome shields should stay too.
I'd like to see CCM again. I love the colors and the rear bottom hem patch. Adidas made nice jerseys. I still want to buy a few while I still can.
I watch a TON of hockey related videos on CZcams, yet the algorithm did not send me here until today. Excellent content, great editing and overall excellent presentation, I love it! Instant sub, keep up the great work!
Thank you for watching!
I really wanted under armour to get the MLB contract which apparently they were close to acquiring. I would be a huge fan of Under Armour hockey jerseys. My high school football team had under armour jerseys and gear and it was all just fantastic.
The last Nike Canada jerseys were some of the best I've ever seen. The red and black is SICK. Broke my heart to hear them called dull and boring
The design is fire
....
But the material feels like a soccer Jersey.... not a weighted HOCKEY Jersey that's the issue with national
As a purist, I'd love to see either CCM or Bauer get the next contract. Interesting video, thanks!
As always so informative, keep up the great work it’s greatly appreciated..With that said, I’m hoping for CCM. Despite some of their quality control issues i’m going to miss Adidas. What a great run they had! The Reverse Retro program was so fun & i’m so glad i was able to get all of them. I loved every Winter Classic jersey too..yes including the Arenas. Prime Green logos! And the shinny logo on the Kings 3rd jersey. Adidas did a great job!
Shinny logo?
I would love New Era! Their CFL jerseys are sick!!!! CCM I would love too.
If CCM does it, they absolutely MUST change the neckline because the ones on the current AHL jerseys look horrendous
And that's what makes me hesitant. The collars do not look good.
I really hope it’s CCM. Out of the potential companies it’s easily the most trustworthy with hockey equipment.
Warrior would be a solid move. Lululemon could be a sleeper here too. Incredible material innovation, loved by players for base layers, and existing collaboration with Bauer… could be a very interesting first foray into uniforms at scale for them.
the graphics for the timeline were perfect!!!! Super easy to follow. Can’t wait to see part 2!!!!!!
On another note… your videos are so well produced, edited and narrated. Really top-notch stuff mate.
I’ve never seen or heard about your channel until friday night and I just wanna say “wow” your production and video quality is top notch. Kept me entertained the whole time
New Era would surprise a lot of people. They did a fantastic job with the CFL.
Jersey supplier breakdown with the transitions are so satisfying 17:25
I miss Koho so much as a brand. But this is an amazing video for speculation. Love it. Please keep it up!
As always unmatched production quality. Truly the best, I really hope it ends up being CCM, I think if it ends up being Nike we are going down a dark path, worst case senario is clearly Fanatics.
Thanks, Andrew!
Original CCM / KOHO jerseys will always be my favourite, I have a few of the current CCM quicklite jerseys and they're pretty good. Reebok replicas were average at best, the game ready versions were much better though. The one problem I've always had with Adidas is the sizing, do they not know how to measure properly and consistently? I buy the size 60s and yeah, none of them are actually a proper size 60 and some I've had are closer to a size 52!! As for their replacement, I'm also hoping it's not Nike or Fanatics, would definitely prefer CCM or possibly New Balance, whoever gets the contract, i will not be buying them - I'm calling time on collecting new jersey designs after 2023/24.
This is one of my favorite videos, Chris!!! Keep up the great work!!!
This is such a good channel. Keep it up!
Thank you, AJ!
I’ll miss Adidas honestly, started really getting into buying more once they took over. I’ve really enjoyed both RR lines as a Bolts fan! I’m also gonna miss those waffle board shoulders, for some reason I really love them! I’ve also liked how they fit, not too loose and big and not too slim and tight for my frame at least.
The Adidas jerseys were banging for FUN. Worried about the collar though.
My picks are either Nike, Bauer or CCM. I kinda wanna see what Puma and Under Armor with Project Rock could do. Also just for fun I wanna add Fila and Champion into the mix.
Same. Really hoping for Bauer or CCM. AK would be good enough.
Always a great day when icethetics uploads!
Thanks Azaan!
So happy I found your channel. The production quality is fantastic!
Thanks so much!
quality of your vids are legendary. Not many hockey creators with this level of production.
Fun fact on why you see so many True goalie setups is they bought the rights to Levebre, a goalie gear manufacturer. CCM didn’t resign and the person got fired for it. Levebre was with Koho, Reebok, and CCM until about 2019 when True bought them out and they’ve dominated.
Your content is of such quality. Thanks for this, Chris!
Thank you, Antoine!
Been looking forward to this video 💯💯💯
I appreciate the amount of research in this video. Awesome!
CCM is my pick based on the adidas connection. I love the build quality and designs of the Adidas era and I was really bummed when I heard the news. Hopefully they continue with the same materials if CCM takes over.
If they end up selecting Fanatics I will not be buying anything and I’ll be stocking up next year on Adidas jerseys lmao
Such a great video. Love the history of it all. Thanks for creating this. So enjoyable!
Thanks so much!
Learned something new watching this. Had no idea there were so many different manufactures for jerseys, especially at one time.
Great video! I learned a lot about the history of the jersey suppliers that I had no idea of. As far as whoever takes over from Adidas, I hope they keep the same high quality and creativity moving forward. I think the NHL has never looked better with the adidas jerseys, so my immediate feeling of them moving on is nervousness. I've never been a fan of Nike jerseys - the Olympics are a perfect example as you mentioned (although 2010 and 2014 contain some jersey I enjoy most). But everything Nike has done since them, I've been disappointed in. CCM would be my preferred choice due to their relevance and hockey history, so i have my fingers crossed for them. While it's not for another year, I'm going to try and enjoy the last year Adidas has and can't wait to see what they have in store. Awesome work as usual Chris!
Thanks, Orion!
your channel is awesome. So much professionalism and attention detail for such a niche topic.
Love it
Thanks for the kind words!
I learned a lot about something I thought I knew lot about. Thanks Chris! Great work.
Same! I learned so much myself while researching this video. Thanks, Sean!
Really good stuff here man 👍
Great video. I'd like to see some competition again when it comes to uniform manufacturers.
With Nike already supplying the NFL, MLB, and NBA, my guess is they'll go after the NHL to have all of the Big Four. Ready for City Connect NHL jerseys?
Amazing video as always! Appreciate the history lesson and will miss the Adidas jerseys.
Thanks, Bryden!
They already have Reverse Retros, which are basically the same thing.
@@santiago253 They’re not the same thing whatsoever.
Nike willl increase visibility for The Sport as well Go Big Bettman please
@@TheHeston83 Nike jerseys give me aids. Quality is terrible. Just look at the iihf and Olympic jerseys
Very exciting stuff! Can’t wait to see who gets the deal and see all the New Jerseys and design talent!
I would be totally down for New Era taking over. CFL jerseys are good quality.
This is a really interesting video! Keep up the great work!
Thanks, Jack!
I am pretty sure it is gonna be Bauer. They provide at least some Jerseys for the German first Division. I really love the designs for my home team the Adler Mannheim (Seiders and Stützles former Team)
As long as who has the contract offers the maska pro stock made jerseys like ccm did in the 90s
I’d be interested to see what New Era could bring to the table. One smaller brand that I think would make some nice designs would be ‘47 they already make some merch for the NHL and I’m a fan.
I would love to see CCM come back. Only problem being most teams will deface the jersey by putting ads on it.
I wish this next brand is multiple brands. The jerseys today are so boring under one brand. I love back in the 90s where each time vastly looked different with their jersey style. Today it’s stripes on arm stripe on bottom 1 solid color with accent. Back then you had veritcle lines inverted lines craziness it was fun. That’s why I love the reverse retro because it breaks up the boring adidas reebok style jersey. The NFL in the 90s was amazing they had different brands and each team had unique schemes
Can’t wait to watch this after work!
Will def have thoughts haha
Could you do a video with an in depth look at jersey history, going back to the beginning? This video was great, so I would love to see more. Especially back to the wool sweaters, it's fascinating.
Bravo fantastic video Chris!
Amazing production on the video! Good job! Maybe icethetics should make the next NHL jerseys!
Awesome video as always !
Thank you!
simply amazing video, I completely forgot about Warrior and yet I'm in the UK where we have the Elite Ice |Hockey League where our jerseys were Warrior for a season and were mainly were print screened on logos to help the airflow and aerodynamics as said in the CHL. My only gripe is the ridiculous sizing from the adidas branded jerseys. Hope CCM take over once more and stick to a more practical sizing chart/guide :)
Thanks, David! Great to have a UK hockey fan watching.
@@icethetics no problem :) we might be a small island between Ireland and Europe but we do have some very good hockey teams over here ^_^ and I for one do love my hockey both state side and UK :)
I think underarmour is a very interesting idea, I don’t know about any other teams but they currently make the sweaters for the Wisconsin Badgers and they gave the badgers an amazing update while maintaining the consistency of their look and incorporating some great nods to Wisconsin itself.
They do make the jersey's for South Dakota State University, the other SDSU on all sports except Volleyball I know that the Jackrabbit got screwed in the process as Under Armour refused to make the uniforms unless they removed the old cartoon mascot from the team entirely no person as the Mascot allowed but nobody else wanted to make uniforms unless the school paid the company lots of money to do so and the Under Armour deal was about all they could get. Now the Rabit looks like a logo for a brand I have seen redo a logo like that before. They have a tie to Maryland University where Under Armour got its start as a Football and distance running/track sports apparel only company but almost lost the entire sports contract due to how a lesser football coach who helped kill an athlete with a heart condition.
Amazing video as usual
Exceptional content, as always, Chris.
Thank you, Max!
My big 2 picks would be New Era and a hopeful CCM, I still own a few old CCM jerseys and I love them. I'd love to see what a modern CCM would bring to the table.
Going into this video my vote would be for Underarmor.
Now that I've watch it ... Underarmor is still my #1 as a hockey fan. #2 would probably be CCM ... but it would not have the punch and push that Underarmor would in the USA.
This was a quality video hope to see more of these.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the rest of the channel.
Thank you for the honest and detailed option on each possible successor to Adidas! Great video as always!
Thank you!
Really nice history class here, at least in the past side of things.
I started following the NHL in the mid-1990s and to me, that was the golden era of hockey jerseys. From that point until Adidas took over the uniform contract, you could purchase an 'authentic' jersey that pretty much matched what was on-ice.
My main concern regarding the next jersey supplier is whether or not authentic jerseys will be made and if so, will they be readily available to the consumer. I know they're pricey but I'd like to see these jerseys back on the market.
Working with TNSE, I know the Jets sold authentic gamer issued Adidas MiC (made in 🇨🇦) on game days in the arena. On EBay you can find a few blank/customized game issued jerseys
@@Annexation_ Yeah, they're available but not readily so and they tend to be expensive. I wonder if any will shake free for more affordable prices after next season.
I remember the good old days when River City Sports would advertise authentics for $75 to $130 a piece in The Hockey News. That's probably one reason why they're rarer and so much more costly nowadays.
Amazing video man! Just from how many years I have loved New Era hats I think this would be the company to put forth the creative effort & quality product that I would love to throw my money at!
New sub here - Just want to comment on the quality of your editing and transitions/animations......you deserve more subs.
Thanks for the sub!
CCM, Bauer, New Era all seem like great picks
Excellent work on this video. 🙌🏼
Thoughts on Jordan throwing their hat in? Lots of other college sports with the brand, could be random but interesting and exciting for the NHL.
While I haven’t seen them do hockey yet, I’d love to see Under Armour take it. They have great experience with consumer apparel and after a bumpy road, they finally have figured out football jerseys with some college teams and the XFL.
Watched both vids Part 1 and 2. Just heard about Fanatics. Can't wait to hear what you have to say in a follow up. I came back bc I couldn't remember what you said. Sadly it looks like the NHL might have another fumble on their hands if Fanatics doesn't get their act in gear by summer of next year.
I love how Garry is ok with all the booing and he actually jokes around when people do it
He's honest about not caring about fans
Love the visuals with the old logos
This was my first time seeing one of your videos but it's definitely not going to be my last. Amazing production value.
Thanks, Richard! Hope you enjoy the rest of the channel.
I’d be interested to see what some of these larger companies could come up with. I also want fanatics to be as far away as possible. Ot does a lot of AHL specialties as well, and I just can’t get into them. CCM would probably best the best option.
Dude --- that was an AWESOME VIDEO!!!
Thank you, sir!
Unless I'm forgetting, Under Armour is or was in the jersey game with Notre Dame, Boston College, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. I think they might be a dark horse, but I'd put them at the head of that category. Warrior doesn't seem too concerned with expanding their NHL presence, otherwise they'd be trying to get their goalie gear into the show. And the only way True gets into the jersey game is if they buy a jersey company (like they did with VH Footwear for skates and Lefevre for goalie gear).
Great video!
GREAT video!
Chris, your stuff is SO good.
Thanks, Donovan!
The build quality of the prime green logos and the on ice jersey is fantastic and will be incredibly hard to beat. I notice on average less wear on jersey sleeves for my gamers than the Reebok counterpart. As for the indos however, I fine then snag prone. And basically a middle ground to the fanatics breakaway as they still have the nice main logos and patches but the jerseys themselves are cut and sewn using different methods and fabrics. The retro reverse runs especially 2.0 were incredible. Definitely a tough act to follow. I just hope whoever takes the deal. Build a new jersey template from scratch. I wouldn't be surprised if there already a deal signed because these jerseys may need to start design and production by now. They probably just can't announce it due to some agreement with adidas because they still have to market their last run of jerseys before people decide to save their money of the latest (and hopefully, greatest).
I just watched this yesterday… and saw the fanatics contract announcement this morning haha
This was awesome!!
Amazing video. I don't think Nike would be so bad, I like their recent Olympic Sweater designs. The colors and patterns are ultimately up to the teams.
I'll add one to the mix, although not going to happen, Kappa. Kappa is fairly big in Europe for sportswear, supplying a number of large football and basketball clubs.
I remember when teams had their own manufacturers and I wouldn’t mind that again but we know that won’t happen as you said so I’m hoping for ccm ! I just hope we get a great caliber jersey and hopefully we can get on ice retail jerseys again like reebok 2.0’s I hate the adidas knockoff authentics
Nike has the entire USA top 4 watched Pro sports leagues if they got the NHL. Please, do not go that route.
If Nike gets it, a new system is a must. The current system looks and fits awkward. Which hey, if they end up making an improved system that fits the NHL's needs, maybe that leads to some improvement with the Olympic jerseys too. Could be a win-win.
That said, I think CCM has the best to offer in terms of design and quality
Great vid! Thanks, I'm a jersey guy.
I liked the reebok and ccm ones. They were pretty comfortable
My huge fear with Nike is them meddling with the designs of teams that seemed to really nail their brand identities during this most recent adidas-era stint. Obviously the teams hold some power in the designs of the uniforms as a whole, but if say Nike implements their almost too futuristic uniform construction (as we see in the Olympics) league wide we could see a lot of iconic uniforms suffer from it potientially. The 1960's throwback unforms for USA do give me a bit of relief and Sweden also seems to hold strong on their great and incredibly simple uniforms they rollout with every year. Really sad about adidas' departure, they have been awesome these past years and it felt as if they had a fantastic vision on how to push the aesthetics of hockey forward. As always, great work on Icethetics, one of my all time favorite sites.
Thanks, Taylor!
I hoping that Adidas and the nhl can work out a deal but it probably won’t happen I love the adidas jerseys
I'm hoping it will go to anybody else for selfish reasons. I expect that once the jersey manufacturer changes there will be some significant clearance on some of the current gear, so I'd love to be able to pick up a few cheap ones. As it stands now, two of the three jerseys I have are for retired players and the third is autographed so I don't always feel comfortable wearing it to games (for instance, it's supposed to be raining tomorrow and I don't want to wear the autographed jersey in the rain).
Would really not be surprised to see Under Armour throw their hat in. They've supplied my college (northeastern)'s jerseys for a little bit now and the jerseys themselves are very nice. Only issue we've had with them is they're terrible about merch. Since fanatics has NHL merch locked down though there's a good chance that wouldn't be an issue.
hey man that was a great video!!!
awesome visuals with very informative stats and info.
i always wondered who bought out who and who actually owns who ?
would be great if you could do a video on whatever happened to all the equimpment manufactures
like when i was a kid you could see players wearing all kinds of different brands like Jofa Easton
Cooper Koho Titan Tackla Louisville Winnwell Sher-Wood Christian Eagle Hespeler Itech....
nowadays all use see is maybe 3 or 4 of the major brands.
thanks in advance if you do.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure if equipment manufacturing is in my wheelhouse, but I'll look into it and see if it's worth a video.
This may be your best video yet, Chris!
Thanks, Mark!
