Extremely Narrow English Street! Watch to the end! (Robin Hood’s Bay near Whitby)

  • This was fun. Extremely narrow and going downhill - and we met a car coming the other way.
The reason for us driving down there was to pick up my parents from our AirBnb at the bottom of the hill, as they couldn’t do the walk. We did, every time we used the car. Walk to get it and walk after parking.

To any international viewers watching this, this road isn't particularly narrow by English standards, it's fairly typical for very old villages/towns/cities to be built like this. York and Bath are two examples that spring to mind.

@@098317 yes mate I know that road very well and yes I am fully aware of those signs. It doesn’t excuse pedestrians ignorance of vehicle movement around them. I’ve seen that behaviour so many times before in other areas too. Try Church St and Henrietta St, not as narrow or steep but a whole lot busier with pedestrians. Both locations need vehicle access for numerous genuine reasons and that doesn’t include sightseeing.

I find it odd when built hundreds of years ago, it wasn't to the regulation of two horse and carriages wide. That's how roads were measured in the first place. A horse pulling a carriage was supposed to be able to pass another comfortably on a road. Hence the width. I am sure the Romans would never approve of anything less.
