National Anthem of the First French Empire - «Le Chant du Départ»

The "Chant du Départ" (French for "Song of the Departure") is a revolutionary and war song written by Étienne Nicolas Méhul (music) and Marie-Joseph Chénier (words) in 1794. It was the official anthem of the First Empire. It is also the regional anthem of French Guiana. The song was nicknamed "the brother of the Marseillaise" by Republican soldiers. It was presented to Maximilien Robespierre, who called it "magnificent and republican poetry way beyond anything ever made by the Girondin Chénier." The song was first performed by the orchestra and choirs of the Music academy on 14 July 1794. 17,000 copies of the music sheets were immediately printed and distributed in the 14 Armies of the Republic. Its original title was Anthem to Liberty; it was changed to its present title by Robespierre.

Le Chant du départ est un chant révolutionnaire, écrit en 1794 par Marie-Joseph Chénier et mis en musique par Étienne Nicolas Méhul. Cet hymne est exécuté pour la première fois le 26 juin 1794 après la bataille de Fleurus afin de célébrer la victoire des armées de la République. Le Comité de salut public demande son exécution le 14 juillet 1794 pour l'anniversaire de la prise de la Bastille. Il est ensuite utilisé pendant la Première Guerre mondiale pour exalter les soldats partant au front.

Le Chant du Départ, известная как «Походная песня», написана в 1794 году композитором Этьеном-Николя Меюлем на слова драматурга Жозефа Шенье. Изначально песня имела название Hymne de la liberté, однако когда Шенье представил текст песни для утверждения Робеспьеру тот сменил его на Le Chant du Départ. Во времена Первой Империи (1804-1814) применялась в качестве гимна Франции, сменив «Марсельезу», которая только после Июльской революции снова стала гимном страны. Французский президент Жискар д’Эстен распорядился исполнять Chant du Départ во время официальных торжеств вместе с Марсельезой. Особенностью песни является то, что её куплеты должны исполняться разными группами (военные, старики, матери, и т. д.), при том что припев для всех них остаётся одинаковым.
