Returning to Victorian London after a long exile, the unhinged barber Sweeney Todd seeks violent vengeance on the unscrupulous judge who separated him from his family, freedom… and sanity. Teaming with the Sweeney-smitten, pie-making Mrs. Lovett, Todd reopens his tonsorial parlor to lure the judge in… and then practice his murderous desires on the throats of Fleet Street's citizenry!

nah she sounds like shes just rehearsing it like shes reading, it doesnt feel like shes actually saying it, she soundslike shes reading the words for the audience, "reading" something clear isnt phenomenal or incredible
@@hallucy2215 I think they only did this show once so I imagine she didn't have as much time to rehearse and figure out how she wants to play it as she would if it were an actual musical. This was also a concert version so they have even less time to develop the character. On top of that she was having her cancer treatment around that time so I imagine she had a lot on her mind too. I think she did a fantastic performance anyway 🤷🏻♀️

I absolutely love George Hearn sitting there watching her in stunned silence, looking at her like, "What the actual fuck is this mad woman?" His face alone is enough to send me into a fit of giggles! 🤣
I also love the line, "And I'm telling you that pussycats is quick!" because it's Mrs. Lovett basically confessing that she has tried catching cats to bake into pies, but with no success.
Everything about this song, and this scene is just brilliant! This is what you get when you have talented people bring Sondheim's words to life! (Take not Helena, Johnny and Tim! 😏)
I always thought the “pussycats is quick” line referred to diarrhoea, as in, they “pass through you quickly”.

I was at this performance, it was the San Francisco Symphony 2001. Neil Patrick Harris was also in the cast. Stephen Sondheim was in the audience and came up on stage at the end to Congratulate the cast. He seemed to really enjoy it. ❤️ the whole performance is available here on CZcams. It’s really good.

Well I think she pauses because “gritty” rhymes with “pity” but also with “kitty” so we’re kind of expecting she’ll say kitty but doesn’t. But I guess you’re interpretation could be accurate

I thought it was because she was going to say...a bad word that begins with S and rhymes with gritty. Especially since she says "And tastes like..." Since she's been going on about how bad the taste is, the "s word" makes sense in context.
@@AshleyG24601fan Me, too. Part of the joke is that she finds a replacement rhyme "pity" for what she really wants to say which is "sh---y" because she knows her pies are godawful but doesn't want to admit it.

Patti also was casted as Mrs. Lovett on the 2005 Broadway she had a neutral accent but ehh she doesn't have the energy of this performance, people say that on the 2000 concert she had a more neutral accent but I can't listen to it anywhere online, I'm trying to see if by June I could finally buy it online.
