  • How to Fix the Lock Symbol Light in a Car. In this video, we will discuss how to fix a lock symbol light that won’t turn off in a car.
The lock symbol light is usually an indicator light on the dashboard of your car. It is usually red, with a symbol of a car with a key on the inside. When this light is on, it indicates that the security system of your vehicle has been activated. In case someone tries to break in, it will ring an alarm, and the car and lock symbol will start flashing. At times, however, you may try to unlock your car and deactivate the security system, but the lock symbol stays lit, and the car stays locked.
The following are some of the common causes
    • Faulty key fob or dead battery inside the key fob. This may be caused by the key fob already having faults or the battery dying due to prolonged use.
    • Low or dead car battery caused by the general use of the car. The security system needs a running battery to function.

The hazard warning lights only flash when the theft deterrent system is armed and the engine will not start.
To restore the system ,turn the ignition key to the lock position then to the on position, now press the lock or unlock door button on the driver's door, then turn on the ignition, the car should start.

First time I've seen this warning light. 2018 Maserati in the non-heated garage for the winter. I changed the battery in the fob, hit the lock and unlock on the fob, started the car and the warning light went away. Thanks

If it's an old car that doesn't get used often on longer runs - ie. you only use it to pop down to the local corner shop - then greatest likelihood is battery related. If your car also seems slow to turn over to start - then chances are it's your car battery. Get it back to health from a mains battery charger - a few hours ought to do it, or overnight if you suspect its nearly dead! Secondly, again if it's an old car, then the lithium battery in your key fob might be about to die... simply prize open the fob and replace that battery. If you have a spare key, then do that one too (- but only after you are sure the first one is operational again!!)

i only use my chevy truck like once a month and when I don't use it I disconnect the battery so that's probably the reason why the light popped in my dashboard thanks
