Is Ulnar Nerve Transposition Surgery Worth It? My Thoughts 1 Year Later...

- It's been 1 year since my sub-muscular ulnar nerve transposition surgery. Here are a few of my take aways, tips and tricks, and overall conclusions about the recovery process.
If you have any questions please comment below. Also, keep in mind I am not a doctor. This video is simply meant to help others going through the same thing better understand they are not alone in this process. Many people have gone though this surgery and done so in a successful way. There is no reason you can't do the same! This is video is not medical advise more so meant for encouragement.
Have an amazing day!

I'm 75 and I had the surgery on my left elbow about 3 weeks ago. I am retired and don't do heavy lifting or play sports but I am still active. I swim daily and work in my yard regularly all of which I could do 2 weeks after surgery without pain or discomfort. I never had physical therapy and haven't felt the need for it. My elbow is a bit sensitive but no pain. I also had carpal tunnel surgery on the same arm on the same day as the cubital surgery. This all happened a few weeks after having carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand. I don't have any more numbness, pain or tingling in my hands at all. The elbow was more intense than the carpal tunnel but most of the discomfort was in the first day or two. After that, no big deal. Anyone who needs these surgeries should get them. Don't put it off until you have severe symptoms. Good luck!
Thank you ..I'm not young so glad to hear we dofine
I’ve been having this problem since last year in my right elbow. I love lifting weights. The last thing I wanted is to get surgery and be out of the gym for a few months. However, your video gave me the confidence to get this surgery done and come back even stronger
Did you get it done bro?
Thanks so much for putting in so much effort into your cubital tunnel videos :) I’d feel so in the dark without them! Has made the early few weeks after surgery so much less daunting. Fan for life now!
@@jreverie7018 dang thanks so much!!! I’m glad the videos helped! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
another nice video. I'm old, 71, and am having carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, and a torn ligament surgery all at the same time. I'm very worried about recovery but I am athletic, primarily swimming so I hope that helps. I'm in good health otherwise so I hope that helps as well. Thanks for sharing your journey. It was very inspiring.
Thank you for sharing your journey! I am wishing you nothing but success with your surgery. 71 years young! Congrats! I'm certain there are people that will read your comment and feel encouraged that they aren't the only one going through this process. I've never been much of a swimmer. I hear it's tough! Maybe I should start.. 🤔🙂
@@Grant_Rivers I'd encourage you to try swimming, not as your primary exercise but as an adjunct. One, I find it relaxing, Two, it helps keep my overall body in shape, and three it works muscles without stressing them. Not to mention you live in a beautiful place to swim. Thanks for your encouragement.
Thanks for your 1-year update. I am also out of ulnar nerve transposition surgery (close to 7 months out). I'm close to 100% as well. Can do full push-ups again. But haven't attempted pull-ups. Still nervous to do them, but just working on more grip and pull strength before attempting some assisted pull-ups. I really appreciate you chronicling your journey, especially since you are young adult like myself. They really helped me decide to pursue the surgery myself, and so far I'm happy with the outcomes. Hope your javelin journey is going well!!
I really appreciate the thoughtful message. It’s encouragement like this that keeps me going! I’m really glad you’re seeing a lot of success with your recovery. I think you have a great mindset. Definitely take your time on those pull ups! No rush. 😄🫡👍🏾
hey where did you do your surgery if you dont mind me asking?
Why are pullups concerning? Is it something that someone should generally avoid?
@@danielbaird1295I assume because the tricep long head’s function is not only elbow flexion but also shares functions of the lat muscle in shoulder adduction and extension (the main movements of a pull-up) so the tricep long head is very active during pull-ups. This causes similar issues with ulnar nerve subluxation and snapping tricep syndrome that you would get from tricep extensions, skull crushers, bench press etc.
@@danielbaird1295 no ... he was referring to doing pull ups while recovering
Thank you so much for the videos. I just had the surgery - my symptoms progressed rather quickly so I ended up having surgery just 4 weeks after they started. I have 3 littles and have been really concerned with recovery and how the next few months will look. Your experience encouraged me, especially to stay disciplined with exercise and nutrition. So glad to hear your recovery was successful!
Hello! Best of luck to you and your little ones during your recovery process! I’ll be rooting for you as you go though this process 🙏🏾 You got this!
Deeply grateful for this video. Excellent production value. Very important to hear from an athlete who will be extra critical about what constitutes a full recovery compared to laypersons. Kudos.
Thank you!
thank you so much for this video, and the information that you provide ... my case is that my ulnar nerve slipped outside of the elbow a decade ago during military service ... I didn't realize it because it wasn't bad, but in the last couple of years, it has become bad. So I am scheduled for surgery in August this year to have the nerve put back. Like you, I have had fitness in my life for a long time (I was military 1987-2018) so I am expecting a decent recovery (unrushed, of course) and looking forward to staying active for years to come.
I’m wishing you all the best! You got this!
this video is well done. and this kid is really cute. his manner and presentation is mature and elegant. he's very well spoken.
Thank you!! 😄 Your comment is very kind
Thanks for sharing! As someone dealing with an ulnar nerve issue this made me feel better and gave me a better understanding of the condition. I am going to be seeing a therapist first to see what can be done but it's nice to see how successful surgery can be if it needs to be done. Cheers
Thanks for your comment Perry! I’m glad the videos could help! If you look at some of my recent CZcams shorts or even some of my post on IG! You’ll see I’m back to lifting heavy and training! The surgery can definitely be successful if done by a good surgeon 👌🏾👍🏾 All the best man!
If you’re going through comments, wishing someone has found a solution for elbow popping, stop here for a second. I have popping in my left elbow. It is not THAT severe. I fell during a basketball game and that was that. I have had it since about 3 years ago and it looks like it’s not gonna leave soon. It used to pop while doing push ups, pullups. Dips were completly out of idscussion. I have gone through all comments of most of the videos on this subject on youtube whishing I could find something other than surgery. For me, I found an exercise that functioned really well. That is the „glasses” exercise. You make an „ok” sign with your right hand, for example, turn it upside down and put that onto your right eye. You’ll se example of this exercise on videos on youtube. I did this exercise for a few days.. now and then. After about 2 weeks, I could do dips almost no problem. During push ups and pullups it does not pop anymore. With dips, it still pops every now and then, but it is the technique I still have to work on to fully eliminate it. But I CAN DO DIPS without popping and pain for the most part. I had almost lost any hope. This is a miracle for me. And this is only the start. I included this exercise in my warm up routine. I strongly believe that if I continue to do this exercise regularly, I will not have problems whatsoever with training. ( I am not sure about weighted calisthenics and lifting weights though. But at this point, I am really content with being able to do calisthenics with no limitations). Wish you all the best!
Thanks 😊👍
I appreciate the info from a high level athlete, so much of what you do relates to what I do and what I’m hoping to continue doing after surgery. Big time into CrossFit and wanted to hear from another person whose fitness is very important to them and their experience after this surgery. Having both elbows done this winter. Best of luck to you and Thank you!
This is so inspiring, thank you! I am on week 7 post op ulna nerve transposition, and starting to feel like there is a long road ahead. I can't wait to get back in the gym. My surgeon has said no strength work until 8 weeks and to take things really slowly. My movement has come back well, but still alot of stiffness.
Thanks for sharing your story 😊 I need to take your advice on remaining positive and not rushing anything, also keeping the rest of the body strong
You can go to the gym now ?
Thanks for the video kind sir! I’m so glad I watched your video just because I’m in the same boat as you! I was 17 when my injury happened and I gave up alot of college offers because I didn’t want surgery then back in 2003, I didn’t like the odds! But now 37 20 years later Im taking a “me break” and adding this to the list… 🙏🏼
Thanks for posting this! Might be getting surgery for it soon, and this video is keeping me hopeful to stay positive
Best of luck if you go through with everything! 💪🏾
I’m one month out and my range of motion is getting better but still get a wicked sharp ache inside elbow with no real way to position arm for relief. Comes and goes. Such a slow healing process from all the other surgeries I’ve done. Mine was from years of motocross, ATV, Snowmobiles, and military service
That is an amazingly well made video!
Thank you!!
I was just told by my ortho doctor that I have a luxating ulnar nerve that is causing intermittent (upwards of a few times a day) cubital tunnel symptoms. Mostly pain and numbness. He recommended an ulnar nerve transposition since night splinting and activity restriction didn’t improve it as much as he hoped.
I keep going back and forth with it because he said it will relieve my symptoms but because my symptoms aren’t 100% of the time I worry that going for the surgery is extreme (even though there are no in between recommendations) and maybe I shouldn’t.. it’s been hard to decide and I’ve been doing so much research on other people’s experiences. I really appreciate this video.
Bhai kha se ho ?
Really awesome to see your story/progression through this. This type of information/anecdote as someone who got their surgery last Nov!
Thanks Daniel! I hope your recovery has gone well! 💪🏾
@@Grant_Rivers It's gone pretty well, stronger than I was before at this point. The one thing I am still working through is some fingertip numbness (pointer/middle/ring/pinky) in the days after lifting and climbing. The doctor I chatted with on this just suggests to drop volume (Since it's not generalized and not targeting a specific set of fingers, he things it could be related to just too much stress/pressure on fingertips). If you are familiar with this let me know, it's the last holdout until I'm 100%
Thank you for making this video and the info provided. I'm just on my 5th day after the surgery and was just looking for some good advice. This hit the spot. Good luck and thank you again
Comments like yours always mean a lot! Get better soon bro! You got this!!
@@Grant_Rivers hey dude hope the surgery has gone well and youre fully recovered. i jut have a question how have you went with doing tricep exercises such as tricep extension, benchpress and dips? do you still feel like its snapping out or anything?
Great video man I just had it done on this past Friday. I had a right arm done in 2019 I had on her nerves and carpal tunnel this time it was really invasive, I have bruising up to my shoulder and most of my arm is black and blue, I do feel the relief of the nerve being moved there. I can tell that he has moved a nerve and it does feel like it is released. Thank God I just have to wait for the swelling to go down which is continuing to make my fingers numb.
Imo of just getting my surgery done 4/13/23, this swelling is usually associated with not having your arm elevated. It will cause the swelling to intensify and you could put yourself in more harm. Try to sit with enough pillows next to you to prop your arm up close to shoulder height as long as you can throughout your day. You should see the swelling decrease within 15 mins to an hour or so. Worked for me. Good luck on your recovery.
I only have pain in the elbow. No loss of grip strength no tingling in pinky finger. On second month of cortosteriods when the pain resurfaced.
Same, I’m having this problem in my left elbow. It’s mainly just irritation, but it’s kind of hindering my growth in the gym because of the irritation. I talked to a Dr and he said to watch it for about 6 months and see. But, I’ve been having this problem for a year now.
@@lamarsaprodigy2173 yeah it keeps coming back I don't know what to do
I’m 24 hours post op. Thank you so much for the original video and the follow up
I’m glad you enjoyed / found it helpful!
Thanks for the video. :) I've had ulnar nerve problems together with a partially ruptured triceps tendon for 8 months now. I've seen a specialist and we checked & tried various things; the nerve is functioning "normally" (according to the neurologist), resting the arm, medication and physiotherapy. So far nothing has really helped the nerve (the triceps tendon seems to be more or less okay now), so we decided today that we'd schedule surgery. I'm unsure, whether it really is the right decision, since it is not "that bad" in terms of muscle degeneration or nerve damage. However, it causes problems in my daily life. I cannot perform any of my hobbies... Another point is, that I'm in the middle of writing my Master's Thesis (month 2 out of 6), which makes me unsure if having surgery now, compared to after my thesis ends, is a good idea.... I'd greatly appreciate any piece of advice :D
Thank you so much for covering your post-surgery experience with using a keyboard and mouse. This is how I injured my nerve, 9 years ago, and my major concern is whether I'll ever be able to use a computer normally again. I currently have to keep the injured arm straight, and the minor accommodations you mention seem much more manageable than that!
thank you for this great video ! i'm not as an athlete as you but i can relate to the desk working part. I do use pillows and I've also experimented with using a mechanical keyboard with linear switches (cherry mx red). The smoothness and absence of "bump" feedback reduces a lot of the pain for me. I also use a pentablet instead of a mouse (at somepoint i couldn't bear the clicking). Best to you and everyone
Thanks for sharing! I think your way of dealing with this sort of injury will be helpful to others. I never considered a keyboard might be an avenue to find relief
@@Grant_Rivers Cool :) And also consider text to speach if the environment allows for it !
@@ploluap oh shoot! That’s a good idea too. I think you could probably make a video yourself. You have a lot of good ideas!

just got my ulnar nerve transposition done a week ago.. haven't been in the gym in 2 years since it started (nerve issue).. I have been wanting to go back in the gym bad but didn't want to damage my nerve worse.. So I got surgery and now I am recovering and am just counting down until I can get back in the gym in a few weeks/month so I can start to lift after I have healed from surgery.
I’m rooting for you! It’s sucks not being able to do the things you love! Can’t wait to see where you’re at a few months from now. Just keep a positive mindset and recovery will go exactly how you want it to. 👍🏾👍🏾📈📈

How are you now? Did you make a full recovery?
@@bootychu3165 I am doing a lot better, I am back in the gym lifting like nothing happened. My hand has constant dull numbness but not as bad as a few months ago. I can feel my pinky finger now and move it which was not possible before last November. If you are trying to find out if I think it was worth it, 100% was worth it. I had absolutely 0 pain after the surgery. only some minor uncomfortableness.

Just had the surgery in both arms. Did the left arm first then the right arm 5 weeks later. I’m two weeks into the recovery of my right arm and so far so good. But I’m right arm dominant so it’s been hard having to consciously use my left arm to allow the right to heal, but I’m managing
Hello thank you so much for the video it was very helpful and you did keep it real. My Surgery on my right arm and wrist will be in June 2024 .
Thanks for sharing your experience. It really makes me understand a lot more about this injury; I'm 15, my ulnar nerve started snapping after I fell on the ground during football practice, and the orthopedic says that I'm too young to do this surgery, and it really makes me stressed rn :(
too young? Wow ... why? why can't they fix it and you can heal and have a lifetime of using it
@@rarelibra They say it is because my bone is still growing, and they don't recommend it, tbh I don't know why this will affect my bone, but it is what it is for rn
@@zhang3104it won’t effect your bone but your nerve, all muscles and tendons grow along with your bone. If you get the surgery and your ulnar nerve is moved, your growing muscles and bones could displace it again which would do you more harm than good. I’m 18, had to wait 2 years for this exact reason. I’ve had this condition since I was about 2 years old. Only getting the surgery at the end of this year. Don’t stress too much about it as everything in your body is still growing, any harm done will most likely repair itself on its own. If not, you should rethink it when you’ve stopped growing. Best of luck bro
Hey, how's your arm now? I am 16 years old, just two weeks ago I got the same problem:(
Hey I love that you made this video. Super nice to see an athlete go through this process. I'm a strength and conditioning coach and weightlifter. I had some issues with ulnar nerve subluxation/distal numbness, especially in jerks and overhead presses.
I'm 8 weeks out ulnar nerve transposition and ulnar shortening osteotomy (had a tfcc tear and ulnar variance)... Full range of motion, starting strengthening with weight limits for my bone to heal. Would like to know your experience with pain, numbness, or general sensitivity over the nerve. About how long did it take before it became less sensitive and painful? Any advice or insight into experience is much appreciated!
Awesome video man thanks for this 💯
No problem 👍 !! Thanks bro
I’m a musician and I know I have ulnar nerve entrapment as it’s very sensitive around the elbow area, I never get paid in my hand or elbow which is confusing. I feel like my thumb muscle is intermittently weak at times which is strange as the ulnar nerve mainly affects ring and little finger
I have had severe muscle atrophy to my right hand which is my surgery side with Situ surgery I am 7 months post op. I have relief from the constant numbness in my ring and pinky finger and I can use ring and pinky again. However, Hand atrophy continued after the decompression surgery follow up nerve conduction test revealed still no nerve conduction to sensory motor of my ulnar nerve. So now we are moving to transposition surgery for the ulnar nerve. In summary if you see any continuing weakness in thumb
and atrophy of muscle between thumb and index finger get it check out immediately because the muscle can’t improve until nerve can communicate with those small muscles that help you enjoy your passion for playing your favor instrument.
Thank you so much for this video. Please let us know if the tingling sensation when resting your elbow goes away over time. I am a software engineer and work at my desk for longer than 8 hours a day. I have not had the surgery yet, but I am still considering it.
Hey! I hope all is well! I still use my desk wrist pad thing (that I showed in the video) but I have no issues whatsoever with tingling now. I think I’m at a year and three or four months at this point and I feel great! 👍🏾
Not sure where to post this so I guess I’ll come here maybe you guys can help me out with info.

I was pretty torn on the decision too! Definitely take your time with it and if you decide it’s the right thing for you, get a surgeon that’s experienced. 💪🏾👍🏾
Glad you are back in action. Is "Ulnar Nerve Transposition" the same as "cubital tunnel release"?
Yes
I've busted both my elbows by doing way too many push ups at 15, and got this ulnar nerve snapping everytime I bend my elbows with minimal resistance now. No way I'm going through this twice though
Hi, I just had surgery on my left arm two weeks ago, and in September, it'll be the right arm's turn. How long did you wear the brace after the operation? Anyway, I can't wait to fully recover because I miss doing sports. How long did it take for you to start making arm extension movements?
Thanks for your response, and best of luck to you.

im wondering the same thing
im just 2 weeks post op and r in a lot of pain n sleepless night 😅
please pray for me I got my surgery last year and I’m really skinny so I wanted to work out. For 8 months after the surgery I was fine and gained a little bit of muscle but one day it just started hurting again. I don’t know if I overdid it but can I still rehabilitate it more if I didn’t enough right after surgery? I might have to quit basketball and I really don’t want to
Hey have you gotten any better? Im getting surgery soon and this is one of my concerns
I’m praying for you right now Joe! I’m really sorry to hear this bro! Are you doing better? Have you talked to your surgeon or a physical therapist after? I’m just going off my gut here but I feel like 8 months after, should have allowed for the nerve to set in it’s new spot and even if you had some tearing of the muscle that the nerve now sits under I’d think that rehab with a PT would probably suffice!? I’m not a doctor but that’s what my gut tells me.
Thx for this man.I have it on both arms and Im very confused i’ve been told I have to get surgery and that it’s a quick simple surgery, and an other doctor told we should wait and see and that surgery is not without risks . As semi-pro musician Im quite worried about this n still not sure what to do. Im about to see someone else again to have an other pov and see if eventually we could do something between surgery and nothing. I can’t afford to be like this much longer and if lasting longer I will have to take serious decisions and cancel projects which doesn’t just involve myself.
Anyway thank you again for this
I had same problem. Few days back i did surgery.
I hope you’re feeling better
Hi! First of all, thanks for the videos that you did, i've watched them enumerous times before my surgery. i did this surgery 2 days ago and i feel the pinky and the the other finger with tingling and numbness. Called my surgeon and she told me that it is very normal since the area is inflamated and the nerve will need some time to feel ok again. How long did it take for you to see improvement on those symptoms? Thanks once again!
It took me a couple of weeks, if not a few months before my pinky finger got back to normal 👍🏾👍🏾… wishing you all the best
bro thanks alot man your video has helped me alot
I’m glad I could help! All the best bro!
great video, happy to see that everything is going well.
are you familiar with the snapping triceps alongside nerve subluxation (2 pops), i have that. but ive adjusted my daily life to where i dont flex my elbow too much (flys instead of presses at the gym, sleep with arms straight etc.), if your doctor mentioned that id like some info
id like to postpone my surgery as much as i can, with my lifestyle change BUT on the other hand i heard that waiting too long is not good either, in regards to results after surgery
I’m really sorry to hear this. Also I hadn’t heard of the snapping tricep. I’m sure my doctor probably has but unfortunately it never came up in conversation. I hope you can find relief soon. It sounds like you’re trying everything you can. 🙏🏾
Did you get this resolved? I just got surgery for snapping tri+ snapping ulnar nerve 19 days ago
I’m nervous 😅kinda wanna back out the upcoming surgery
I was nervous too. Especially when I laid down in the operating room and the doctor grabbed my arm and started drawing on me with a purple marker BUT when they administered the “gas” I was good! Out like a light! And you will be too! They gave me opioids after the procedure. As long as you stay on those until you run out, you won’t really feel a thing. Sleeping was a tad difficult at times but in terms of pain… on a scale of one to ten, I was closer to a one/two. Not bad. Just make sure you always take your medicine on time! You got this!
@@Grant_Rivers I appreciate my guy! How did the healing process go for you and did you apply anything are your arm to reduce the scaring ?
@@Shaun619 not gonna lie. I didn’t do any scraping to reduce the size of the scar. I thought the scar was kinda cool so I just left it to heal. The healing process was easy. I just chilled. Just don’t try to straighten your arm too soon! Keep it in the sling for as long as the doctor recommends so the nerve can set properly. If you try to straighten your arm to soon… you’re gonna feel a jolt ⚡️ of pain run through you. Haha 🤣 not fun! Don’t recommend! Other than that just chill, read books, watch moves, drink protein shakes, pop multi vitamins and keep it pushing brotha! 💪🏾💪🏾🙏🏾
I had my surgery back in Aug. I was given the ok to start doing things after my 6 weeks post op. Month 4 I did play a round of golf. no issues which i was very happy to be back on the course. into month 5 now I moved my gym equipment into another room in my home and my pain tingling numbness has gotten worse since doing such. Could it be I just agitated it and need to rest it? I am scared i messed the surgery up. I would said maybe lifted 50-80 lbs but just for a brief moment to move it.
Hey before surgery , do you feel the pinky finger to be weak? Like my pinky is paining and when I try to type it curls like a claw but only when typing otherwise i can keep it straight normally. So you experienced this?
How do you know if its too late for natural recovery? My ring finger is always numb in the morning and just white noise.... absolutely kills me
Did you have any atrophy to your hand or muscle weakness in abduction of your fingers?
I’m 15, just got the surgery today. My doctor said 6-8 weeks. I play hockey, and I am scared I won’t be healthy enough to play a game in two months
Hey Tim! I understand your worries. It’s normal. But trust your doctor! I know you’ll be back in the ice in no time!
How are you now? Any updates?
How are you now? Did you make a full recovery?
Keep in mind: Most people don’t require surgery to fix Ulnar Nerve Compression. Aggressive early treatment helps immensely.
Hi! I don't believe I ever stated most people require ulnar nerve surgery to fix their nerve compression. I agree with your sentiment completely. Going to physio therapy to avoid surgery - if possible - is always option number 1! Surgery should always be used as a last resort and really that was the aim of this video... to show my journey as I dealt with this issue. I was not able to overcome this order deal with physio therapy alone and thus I made a video to help demystify what going the surgical route is like. I hope that helps to clarify a bit! Thanks for watching! 🙌🙌
@@Grant_RiversBro what about your little and ring finger movement can you touch your little finger to ring finger in straight position.. Bro please tell me I'm 4 months out of this surgery.. @@sujitkumarrout707this guy never replies so don’t get your hopes up. Hope you recover
It’s a different story when multiple doctors misdiagnose you & combine your unrelated health issues with the entrapment & drop the ball completely . I actually self diagnosed myself correctly when it initially happened , but it’s been a few years & one doctor finally stopped relying on his ego & did tests to diagnose me correctly. With early intervention I probably wouldn’t have needed the surgery . But finding a doctor who knows what they are doing now a days is rare
What are some aggressive early treatments? I just randomly had it start in the right arm after leaning on arm while watching movie in couch.
When you felt comfortable bending arm like previous to injury?
i got to get this in october 😢
Best of luck!! 🙏🏾
Hi, could you tell me if there was a noticeable difference in your forearm after it healed from surgery
No, I feel like my forearm is the same size now since I’ve healed 👍🏾
pls tell me that ulnar nerve surgery safe or not????many doctors in pakistan say to that it may paralized you after surgery???????
I had snapping triceps syndrome and i had the transposition surgery last week, im worried about my elbow flexion range bc i feel it limitated
My experience after 10 years of complete numbness of my fingers is that complete recovery of the ular nerve without surgery is possible, just bei doing exercises.
How long did it take until you got feeling back in your fingers?
I have ulnar nerve entrapment on both arms , is surgery expensive? That’s the only reason I don’t want to get surgery everything is so expensive is crazy but then again I be in pain daily & feel numbness on my fingers so is hard i don’t know where to start
Hey man, loved the video. What were your symptoms before you decided on the surgery? I have a subluxation and a ton of pulling medial elbow pain while pitching at high velocities, high volume, or under fatigue. I do not have any tingling however. I have been battling with this pain for almost 7 months now after a pop in elbow while throwing. MRIs show nothing structurally wrong with my elbow. Doctors say my last resort should be ulnar nerve surgery. I am a junior college who may consider a 5th year. Do you think the surgery could be worth it?
A junior pitcher in college* my bad.
Did you get this resolved?
Thank you
I've had it done twice on the same elbow and still have issues with it.... It's not worth it
Sorry 😔
Hey I had the same surgery on both arms about a year ago. Right arm is doing very well I do get aches here and there but good otherwise.
I’ve had two flare ups on the left side where the shocks and pain came back for a week or two, it seems to be tied to when I walk a lot / sunlight exposure to my scar. Not sure if you have had any flare ups as well.
I had a flair up two or so months into throwing javelin. I think the elbow joint wasn’t quite ready for the velocity and quantity of throws I was asking of it but when I backed off a little things really smoothed out.
@@Grant_Rivers ah I see was that 8-9 months after your surgery? I’ve been backing off a bit and applying some topical nsaids which helped, took about a week or two to settle down again
I am struggling to diagnose my elbow issue. I have pain in the elbow when throwing or serving in tennis. My elbow hurts after the gym and in particular doesn’t feel great when placed under tension, either flexion or extension, when the elbow angle is less than 90 degrees or so - all upper body push or pull exercises irritated it while some (chin ups and shoulder press) are downright painful. Interestingly it also gets irritated gripping the bar while squatting. I often wake up with elbow pain when sleeping with a bent arm. Despite all of the signs pointing to ulnar issues, I really don’t have too much pain or tingling in my third and fourth fingers.
Do any of these symptoms match what you experienced? Did anything (nerve glides?) help? I am going for an electrical test of sorts but I’m not sure what’s next. It’s becoming super annoying but not (yet?) debilitating.
Any insight would help.
I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Honestly I’m a little stumped because it could be so many things. It sounds like there are various movements and angles that are causing this issue so it could be a variety of things. One things for sure, it sounds much more than traditional tennis elbow. I never woke up out of my sleep in pain. My issue was more so when I forced the elbow to perform various athletic tasks it would tend to fail me, but chin ups and shoulder press never irritated it. I’d definitely go check out your physical therapist or doctors and see what they say. Hopefully someone else here can respond and give you a little advice! This is a tough one for sure!
I had an ulnar transposition surgery and would wake up with pain in my elbow. You can combat this by sleeping with an elbow brace that prevents your elbow from bending. Avoid the bent angle/90 degrees, anything around should be fine. This includes at the gym.
My recovery hasn't been as good as Grant's, nor did I have a PT around me familiar with the injury (went to two, both experienced it for the first time so I just gave up), but after several years I refrain from chest movements more than once a week, avoid the heavy weights.. Even after 3 years I have some discomfort after the gym.
Hey thanks so much for making this video! Great content. I am experiencing popping in both of my elbows on pressing movements and I suspect I have subluxation of the ulnar nerve. Did you feel it "flipping" over that bone when you would perform pushing motions like bench, push-ups, and tricep extensions? And I'm curious if there are any effective practices to try before considering surgery. Again thanks for an awesome video!
Yeah mate that's what I have, seen a doctor and that's what they described it as so most likely, at least get it checked then you can know for sure 👍🏻
Go see a doctor. Don’t rely on CZcamsr G. And perhaps go to a private professional and not a public one, depending on your country.
I’ve had 2 surgeries for ulnar nerve and snapping triceps. Both failed and there are no orthopaedics in my country who have experience in this type of procedure. Don’t know what to do now
Where are you from? And how are you now? Did you solve your problem?
@@tantalha I’m from Cyprus, still have the same symptoms. The pain in my fingers comes and goes. I’m out of options as it seems nobody in my country has experience with type of surgeries
Going in for mines in a couple days 😫😔
I hope everything went well!!
How long does it take to heal from this
I am in my third month after surgery
Still tender is this normal
I scared 😢
I have several other videos on my channel that address your question a little more in detail! Yes eventually the tenderness gets much better! You just have to be patient with yourself and the healing process. I know it feels like an eternity. But when you finally get to where I am (over a year later) you’ll see that things improve tremendously.
do u feel better now 4 months in
@@sofisofia8556 yes you’ll see the pain rapidly resolves itself after the first couple weeks. But if it doesn’t definitely talk to your doctor.
im 14 and when i started doing athletic training I got this. I have ulnar nerve subluxation and it hurts to throw a baseball hard. I play basketball and I can deal with the pain but im very VERY skinny and when i work out it makes it much worse and whole last summer i couldnt do anything. Im really young and kinda nervous bc I cant go on in highschool with this because ill be doing more intense training.
Any advice?
how are you now?
Hello first of all thank you for the video :) since there aren't too many people making videos about this condition, i have found you and wanna ask you about something. I went through this exact surgery and my ulnar nerve isn't popping anymore but what i think to be a triceps tendon is still popping and i still can't do pushups, dips... What do you think can be done for this or cause of this? Thank you so much.
To be completely honest I’m not too sure about the popping of your triceps tendon. I’d say consult with a sports Physio or your doctor and describe everything to them in detail and see what they come back to you with! I’m so sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!!
I've had surgery for snapping tricep + snapping ulnar nerve.
@@Grant_Riversyeah i have made a doctor appointment just days ago. Thank you for answering hope you're okay :)
@@MaxMustermann-on2gd how did it go and how are you now?
@@leonid7785 cannot tell yet for sure. Surgery was 10 days ago.
Just wanted to share that it is possible to fix snapping tricep by surgery. Most of the time the nerve will be moved as well.
I have no fitness so I'm pretty pessimistic that I'll never regain full function :(
You can do this!
Why did you wear the sling so long? I just had it and was told don’t wear it unless it provides comfort
Doctor told me to
@@Grant_Rivers cool. I was told Just to use it for comfort and didn’t know if it hurt for a long time or anything like That. Thanks for responding
@@sparkysparky19 yeah I believe it is one of those things where some people are ordered by their doctor to wear it slightly longer than others. Also I remember my doctor was really determined to make sure the ulnar nerve was set in its new location before I started working to get my range of motion back. I’m sure this isn’t an exact science- so it varies from doctor to doctor. 😄😄👍🏾 thanks for your comment!!
Hey bro I’m in a cast after this surgery and man the cast is pinching the fuck out of the nerve it’s being taken off 2 weeks after surgery but holy crap man someone help me I went back to hospital they gave me a new cast which is more tight and not helping!!! Guys I have 9 more days I won’t make it
I believe you are the first person I have ever heard of getting a cast after this procedure. 😮😲… I’m not a doctor but that seems kinda like an outlier. I am interested to see if anyone else has been given a cast??? Also I’m sorry you’re going through so much pain!!
@@Grant_Rivers it fkn hurts mann I’m going to ER couple mins I went today earlier they gave me a fibre cast which is even tighter so I’m going again man this is BS
Im sorry you're going through this. Hopefully they will find an alternative so that your elbow won't be as agitated. @@brodyallard9011
hey man, So im out of the cast now and out of a brace. I still expereince popping but its now my triceps bruhh. And also i am expereincing pretty nasty ulnar nerve pain still im 2 months post op. Did you expereince this? (nerve pain btw) i literally woke up today and been up for 6 hours and expereinced nerve pain all day and i have a pretty high pain tolerance and id say its at a 7-8 of firing shocking pain localised in the medial side of ebow.

Very inspiring.
I had cubital tunnel release surgery 10 days ago.
Symptoms before surgery: ring pinky finger constantly numb for a month.
They are still numb after 10 days of surgery. No swelling at arm but fingers are swollen and painful.
Does it take time to get sensation back after surgery?
Anything to do in this period other than icing?
Thank you
the rotator cuff exercise at 0:38 is actually damaging your cuff if you do it like that.... i
Please don’t spread misinformation. The gentleman I worked with during my rehabilitation was a certified physical therapist and I am completely back to full health now, with zero rotator cuff issues, pain, etc.

im suffering from this but its pain under the pinky not in the pinky from keyboard gamming if i quit for weeks it gets a little better but comes right back if i use keyboard little scared its perminate cuz its been like this for 15 years
how are you now?
it varies but going to doctors on the 19th they running some kind of test iver noticed keyboard and keyboard gamming tend to make it act up more then other activities @@nwhajlawn6224
