The thing I really like about Kelsey's videos is how he takes us through the whole lifestyle of being a commercial pilot. Not just the technical details of how and when to rotate, gears up, flaps, etc, etc, but also the nagging little day to day things that are not at all glamorous, but that professional air crews constantly have to deal with. Gives me a lot of appreciation for these folks who we trust with our lives.

@@NikolaiUA Well, to be fair he does do occasional analysis of various aircraft incidents and accidents, in which he (naturally) explains these details. I agree that those are not his usual video format, but still, he does provide some of this. Regardless, I think we would both agree that those are not really typical for his channel, and most of the time he is relating his personal experiences. And that angle keeps me interested.

@@usaturnuranus I agree! I absolutely love Kelsey's vlogs. I also love all the personal anecdotes he shares in his analyses videos. It's so fascinating to get a peek into the day-to-day life of commercial pilot. I fly several times a year as a passenger. With the locked cockpit doors and all that, it's easy to forget that there are actual humans up in front, controlling the plane. Also, Kelsey knows that his audience is the general public, and I'm glad he doesn't get too deep into the technical details. The average person, myself included, would have trouble understanding that stuff.

I WISH! I have tried every over the counter and prescription sleep aid legally found in the US market. I even racked up almost 80K in debt 15 years ago trying to solve this with (useless) doctors... had to file bankruptcy as a result...
Even if I have nothing happening, I can only sleep 3-4 hours at a time, 5-6 absolute tops, and that's only after not sleeping for 48 hours and climbing 14ers all week...
I have cut my caffeine intake down to only 4-6 ounces of coffee per day, attempting to eliminate it entirely. It seems to be helping: I have also found a ton of research showing how any amount of caffeine consumed regularly 'accumulates' (the body gets used to it- I forget the term they used) and has detrimental effects on long term sleep... their hypothesis is this is why elderly people have a hard time sleeping, because of all the coffee they drank in their 20's and 30's... Not sure if I believe all that, but I am on a mission to eliminate caffeine!
Honestly, the only other thing I have tried that has helped with sleep has been my recent adventure into the Carnivore diet... all animal based diet. still only 5-6 hrs, but that sure beats the 1-2 hours of sleep I was getting when I was a vegetarian and the 3-4 on a "regular" healthier than most american's diet. (I have literally been trying, and will continue to try EVERYTHING that might help- legally that is)... My hope is to figure this out- perhaps use this to help people (pilots mainly) find better ways of battling fatigue and lack of sleep, than what the currently literature holds.

Walking that cargo deck and taking those checks seriously makes me happy Kelsey. Watching Petter's video on that cargo flight out of Bagram Airbase a few years ago when APCs rolled backwards on take off is one of the only things I've seen in aviation that viscerally terrified me, and still does.
I'd even go so far as to say that that walk-around is almost as important to me as "Kelsey gets all the sleep", or "Kelsey gets first *and* second breakfast for free" 😊

Flew last feb. from Amsterdam to Salvador de Bahia via Sao Paulo. Had a 6hr stop at Sao Paulo. After long circling around Sao Paulo due to bad weather the flight got de-routed to Rio de Janeiro. Plane got its kerosine there and later on our way to Sao Paulo. The 6hr stopover turned down to a 45 minute stopover and had to go through costums there and check-in and run to the other end of the airport. Made the connecting flight just in time. At least better than the way back via Rio de Janeiro with their agressive scamming shoe shiners outside the terminal. But this airport had a very good (crowded) lounge. Still Brazil (Bahia experience only) is one of the most beautiful places i have visited. Love your videos Kelsey.

We had a minor delay on a Ryanair flight recently. A child wanted to sit in his mother's lap during takeoff but told by crew the child must be secured in their own seat. Mother argued and insulted the FA, captain gave her a chance to apologise, which she refused, so back to the gate where she, her child, and her mother all had to leave. Manners aside, why would you want your child loose during the riskiest stage of the flight? Also, I've been embarrassingly slow picking up Portuguese but my Brazilian friends have a chuckle over me saying "obrigado" all the time; it doesn't mattter where I am though, people should always be acknowledged when they do something for you. And, I flew armed on a few international flights (when flying to countries that allowed us to carry firearms). The pros, was getting to walk to the head of the security lines and getting to board before everyone else so you could introduce yourself to the captain and crew. The con was, you couldn't drink alcohol before flying or on the flight. And, if there was a problem passenger, you would sometimes be asked to deal with it (my partner had to handcuff and sit on an out of control drunk half a flight one time).

So glad that Kelsey is allowed to use his camera while he is working! Great to see inside of the cockpit. Beautiful video of the mountains. Sorry that Kelsey was not able to video some of the passenger being put off of the plane. Would have liked to see more of that even if faces were blurred out. Can't help but wonder if the woman on the elevator recognized Kelsey. If not actually recognized him consciously maybe she just thought he looked familiar.

And why " blur their faces" ?
They are criminals, causing problems, in public.
      Show their faces.
      Don't worry, they have no shame . . .

I just watched this one, after your most recent post and I noticed you now have an extra stripe! I missed that. Congrats! As even a private pilot, I can certainly appreciate the work that went into that. All the best!

It was your charm Kelsey! We ladies love a man that is able to hold a casual conversation without being creepy and gross!

If you are a guy, trying to have casual conversations (something in the past generations was just basic manners) can land you in the creepy camp just because someone has a chip on their shoulder. I remember one trip where I sat next to a woman and it was going to be a 3 hour flight. I am in my 40's and she was in her 20's for context. I never made an advancement to this young lady. I simple asked "Since we are both heading to the same destination, do you know where the hot spots are in the area where young people like yourself enjoy the nightlife?" I was asking because I took the trip feeling old and unwanted at turning 40 and though checking on the young party scene could be fun. I was told to my face "Eww. Stop talking to me to you old creep". I didn't say another word for the next 2 hours and even 3 years later I remember the words and how it felt. All I'm saying is be kind to each other. Words hurt,

Sounds to me like you are nervous speaking to young women. Instead of starting a serious conversation, say something completely neutral. People often start talking about the weather or something else inconsequential. Be relaxed and friendly. Sometimes it's best not to even look at a person at the first part of the conversation. If you're nervous say that you're nervous. That will help to explain your body language. If the person is sporting something out of the usual, compliment it.

the opposite sex isn't a different species, just be polite, respectful and conversationally cautious as you would with any stranger, but otherwise open and friendly.

@@SSingh-nr8qz Speaking as a woman here, that is a pretty creepy thing to say. I know you didn't mean it that way, but you don't start off a conversation like that. You seem to be implying that young lady was rude and hurt your feelings, but the fact of the matter is that you likely scared her. You gotta learn how to talk with women. If an older dude said something like that to me, I'd presume that he's a creepy guy trying to look for a barely legal girl for a one-night stand. You should save that type of question for the concierge at your hotel. Instead, stick to safe topics, like the things you look forward to on your upcoming trip, your experiences with the TSA, how easy or hard it was to book your tickets, funny anecdotes about your trip to the airport, your pets, etc.

I used to work for DHL Express... mid '90s until the 2010s... Was a master load planner for DC8 and 727. Brought back some great memories while you're walking through the plane, seeing cargo netting on the cookie sheets, checking locks... Good times.
