    2 things to improve this,
    1. internalize some of the equipment
    2. make the webcam location right in front of the face, makes it easier to not be disoriented based on the camera position
(This is speculation and also you do not have to do it and besides that that was a great build and that works well. The internalization of components is hard but it’ll help it be a little less clunky

Please keep in mind that a lot of phones don't have OTG. Like the s4 mini and s5 mini. When that's the case you can't connect a usb device to your phone. You can try to remove the ir filter from the phone camera itself then. Which will make it less useful for everyday use, but your image will be a lot better. Most VR glasses have removable covers to use the phone for augmented reality.

Fucking awesome video mate!! You did a great job with the video production and explanation. i had no problem following along, and all your links were extremely helpful. It was pretty difficult to unscrew the lens from the housing, gotta be careful not to lift the glue. the IR filter shattered and and had to dig all the glass with a dental tool. also when reclipping the board to the usb make sure to put it in very straight, the pins are very easy to bend. i had to use the dental tool to get one of the pins back into position. haha you made it look a lil easier then expected. but the goggles work great. And im making a "regular vision version" for a cyberpunk costume. im so stoked i found this video. you're a genius!!

Marking the position of the lens will just get it back to the position where visible light is in focus. The IR will be out of focus with the mark at 12 o'clock. You should check the IR focus prior to fully reassembling the camera if you want the sharpest image!

4:20 See the lens there with the red glass(IR Filter)? Well if you want to put one of these camera setups on a scope with minimum eye relief you need to change it. You need a (12mm board lens) and it has to be 12mm. The 12mm is the designation of the focal length...
Just go grab a scope and hold your cell phone up to it, you will see the inside of the scope and the actual crosshairs are tiny and there is more black around it than there is actual target viewing. That 12mm will move the sight of the camera forward so that the reticle and target fill the screen.
What he is doing can be done with any old cell phone as long as it does not have image stabilization but changing the lenz to a 12mm might be difficult!
Just note that putting a new lens in wil change the focus and you will need to make adjustments to it before final assembly!

Yes it works but I have a problem with the USB Camera App. When I connect a webcam to it its all fine. but when I switch to cardboard view, I see " two videos on one screen" like in your video. But after a few seconds its changes into two triangles. The triangles change color a bit when I move arround the webcam. anyone know how to fix it? Tried it on a samsung galaxy S8 and a S20.

I just need to drill an hole in the vr box for the phone camera.
But we have a big problem with the modern smarphone cameras:
They have big aperture and have very small lenses , so becuase of that they let less light than dedicated cameras.

As a very humble contribution, allow me to share a little processing trick with the screws. Once you try to put them back to their place, just unscrew them instead of directly trying to screw. "Digital Night Vision" is a widely accepted term for a device like this, and there are a lot of commercial devices available. Image intensifier tubes represent the earliest systems, but the "night vision" field includes image intensifiers that use ambient light, thermal imaging systems and IR dependent systems such as this one. There are certainly differences among these three technologies, but they can all be used for many "night vision" applications.
