Man I can’t be the only one of my age (22) or below still watching Charlie Chaplin. That guy is just so awesome, really hope some people will still know him when I’m older. 🤫
I always thought the opening slapstick of The Great Dictator was more remenisent of the Three Stooges (classic line-up) than Chaplin. I could see Curly Howard in that chased-by-a-bomb scene.
my favourite scene is where they all pass the order on and Chaplin turns around, just to find that he is the lowest ranking soldier and has to do the dirty work.
Not always that clear. Example Germany in ww2 had a "tank" that fired 380mm shells. Those were counted as Missiles, because they had two stage launching mechanism.
@@enthalpiaentropia7804 assault gun is a variant of tank, use tank chassis as base. Hetzer is converted from Panzer 38(t). It can be called tank technically.
chaplin as a leeb the artilerry leader but leeb still artillery soldier in position of ww1 he got promoted by hitler in ww2 and commanding schwrew gustav in attack of hte maginot line
It's based on the so called Paris-Geschütz, or paris-gun, which was used by the germans in WW1,and had a range of 100 kilometers and more, But the 80cm schwerer gustav was even bigger, and also used from the germans in WW2.
The hilarious thing is; most of these things have happened in actual combat: an outhouse was destroyed in the Falklands War, duds dropping off the muzzle of mortars happen frequently, etc....though usually the crews are running in the other direction when that happens!
My childhood was blessed with this scene and some others of his. How much did I laugh at them and they still deliver! !! Rest in peace!
The whole world owes you, Charlie Chaplin
Man even after 80 years his comedy still works on us
@Hooly Dooly nope it doesn’t but it wasn’t really meant to , it’s basically one of Britain’s way to insult hitler in the early part of ww2

The little twist dance move he does for the firing pull at 1:25 lmao
1:59 The mere sound is killing me :-D

I love how Chaplin's uniform looks just a little too big for him.

One of the best intros in cinema history.

Absolutely classic & lavish american film. One of the best film ever.
He made it in 1940!!
I love how happy Chaplin was at this oversized cannon destroying a random outhouse.
That was disappointment.

De las pocas peliculas sonoras que hizo Chaplin, el Gran Dictador fue sin duda la mejor.
Masterpiece genius...nobody will call this movie "dated" ANYMORE
CZcams has a clip of French soldiers firing a shoulder mounted anti tank missle that plops out of the tube in front of them and they run like hell.

That's an artillery projectile from a gun, not a missile, which is self-propelled.
Not always that clear.

What is the tank 'name ....which '" panzer model "..??
@@enthalpiaentropia7804 Well technically it was Assault gun but armored AF.
But check Strumtiger.
@@jarskil8862 About Sturmtiger ok , but it was an assault gun not a tank...!

massive cannons was a thing in WW1 and early WW2.
that said that gun was not that big compared to some actually produced cannons.
@@Zack_Wester Yeah, this movie was produced when Hollywood's primary guide to how WW2 was going to go was WW1. (i.e. before the fall of France)
🤣👍
